  1. Have you tried the sky view app, it is useful to identify bright lights in the sky.
  2. Boating News - Breydon and Haven Bridges both operational Peel Ports have advised the Authority that Breydon Bridge and Haven Bridge are now fully operational. Vessels will be grouped together on lifts whenever possible. When craft are to transit the bridge in opposite directions, those vessels going ‘with the tide’ will be given priority. Lifts for weekends should be booked by 16:00 on Friday or on the previous working day in the case of Public Holidays. For information on how to book passage please visit: https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/navigating-the-broads/boating-news/haven-and-breydon-bridges-back-in-operation

  5. The same engine as in my 1988 Sheerline 740, mine is on hydraulic drive and shows 3700 hours. Seems to go okay, but it was around Horning. It is going to be used on the Southern areas so I will have to see how it goes although I am not to worried about speed.
  6. Here I am 😁 As the waste pipe is open it would take a prolonged and deep freeze to ice up and if it did it wouldn't damage a S trap but theoretically could cause damage to a P trap. I have never seen one frozen up either on a boat or in a domestic setting. If you are worried just pour some salt down the hole and a splash of water to mix it. Much nicer than antifreeze. The waste would be the easy one to thaw, bit of hot water dribbled down it would work.
  7. Good afternoon all, As you have likely seen from the news, Storm Ciarán is forecast to hit the Broads area on Thursday 02 November 2023. Met Office weather warnings of wet and windy weather are currently issued for the East of England, with potential gusts of up to 60 mph. We are advising boaters not to navigate during the storm where possible, and that fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life. Please ensure boats and covers are secure, and to be aware that high water levels will continue to make navigation difficult in some areas, especially under low bridges. Some moorings may also become flooded. For boaters who are on the rivers during high winds, please be mindful of where you moor up, avoiding areas with lots of trees and other potentially-unstable structures. When mooring, make sure to adjust your ropes, be aware of the effect that wind has on your steering and be extra careful getting off and on the boat. Broads Authority Rangers have increased the number of safety checks around the Broads before the storm and will be undertaking additional checks afterward, particularly looking for any trees that might be down in the navigation or any other obstructions. Check tide times and flood warnings before you travel: https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/alerts-and-warnings To report fallen trees and obstructions please contact Broads Control which operates daily between 9am – 5pm (on 01603 756056 or email Broads.Control@broads-authority.gov.uk) and call 999 during an emergency. https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/navigating-the-broads/boating-news/safety-warning-due-to-storm-ciaran Best, Tom Tom Waterfall
  8. I did the survey myself, first time I have had to abandon the car and get a boat to do a survey. Ferry Lane was in full flood. I thought it had been well maintained and certainly well built. The best clue was the sliding canopy was square with equal spacing, unlike two previous boats we had viewed. It has had money spent wisely on it in the last four years. The accommodation will suit growing grandchildren, 14 year old grandson is now 6' 3"
  9. It has the badge on the dash. I have just realised, I will have three boats to clean in the spring before it goes. 😬 At least a sneaky visit over winter to check they are ok will be more justified, well it will be in my mind, I just need to convince Matron.
  10. I would think that scenario would depend on hire costs not rising above the level of increasing ownership costs. The biggest cost of owning a boat has got to be home mooring fees, a 10% increase on these overshadows 10% on tolls.
  11. They are not what you would call fast, 😁
  12. Having spent 10 days onboard I seem to have acquired another boat. Having looked at a few over priced rough boats I found a Sheerline 740, sliding canopy. 1988 model. It has everything on my wish list except being one foot longer. It has a bilge keel apparently, it does feel very stable. It is going into Boulter's for some minor works I found doing the inspection and should be ready mid November. Late October appears to be a good time to find the early bargains, or at least realistic sellers. Late October is a rubbish time to sell a Shetland family four so rather than it looking stale on a brokage site over winter I will keep hold of it until the Spring and then sell it, hopefully.
  13. Given that the rate of inflation is generally expected to fall to around 5% by march 2024, it is wrong to base next year's budget figures on last years figures. In the real world, replacement of equipment is delayed if a company can't afford it, shiny new toys are on a wish list, the existing equipment has to last longer and have a bit more maintenance than expected, unless you have a captive cash cow to squeeze dry.
  14. Hi everyone, The fog has lifted and Breydon has now re-opened to hire craft. There may still be areas of localised fog/mist in the Broads so please be cautious. Wishing you a good afternoon and weekend when you get there, Kind regards Tom
  15. Good morning, Breydon Water is currently closed to hire craft due to the extremely foggy conditions. We'll issue an update later on when it clears. Visibility is poor in many areas of the Broads so please be careful this morning if you're on or near the water. 16. There is a new post that has been approved that has appeared in the middle of the thread.
  17. Not the wrong waterway, the nearest, just not the best 😁 I always had one flying on the river Medway.
  18. Thank you, I am on the boat this week but took the precaution of bringing some shop bits and envelopes with me just in case. I will post it out to you in the morning.
  19. What are you saying Pete I have just finished painting the outside. 😁
  20. Good afternoon, Notice is hereby given that Broadland District Council will be carrying out works to renew the drain which runs under the river from River Green to Thorpe Island. Divers will be in the water to assist with the installation.
