  1. Same here, watching Day after tomorrow with extra rain effects
  2. It is chucking it down now in Brundall. The forecast for the next week is not promising. 🙁
  3. I hate that phrase, In my working life I would be bitten at least once a year by a 'friendly' dog. In the end I always insisted any dog was isolated outside and on a short lead if I was in that room. My attitude was always, control it or find another surveyor. The dog is only doing its job of protecting the owner and house. I had a similar incident in the marina, a little yappy thing running at me, I told the owner to control it on a lead or it would be in the water. Some owners forget that not everyone is comfortable or happy with dogs, no matter how allegedly friendly they think they are. I am more than happy to have dogs around me that are under control and take no interest in me.
  4. I thought of you today, spotted Independence moored on the river at Brundall. It is very quiet on the rivers, the south is strangely quiet, very few hire boats and a lot less private owners about. We went to the Ferry Inn at Horning this evening, no more than 20 people eating and mooring space for at least seven good sized boats right outside.
  5. They are a bit large really but very comfortable. I managed to pick up the bases on Ebay, they were due to be used as high end bar stool bases but the order was cancelled due to Covid. £10 each, they had 100 in a container. Fortunately the cabin is fine so no works there.
  6. Finished the update to the cockpit of the Shetland. Removable, folding cabin doors made and fitted last year, New mega comfortable reclining helm and nav seats, as used by the RNLI. I did take the arm rests and seat belts of, seemed a bit of overkill for the Broads. Cushions reupholstered in black fabric to match the helm seat, not my work. New back rest pads in black to match The mucky looking fabric wall lining replaced with white vinyl. That was a horrible job. The carpets might get replaced, I fancy having a go at edge binding, something I learnt at 14 on a Saturday job but haven't done since. The final finishing touch, the table and chessboard, went in today.
  7. We normally aim to come from Norfolk to Medway around 11am on a sunday. A good run is 2 hours 20. A bad one is over 3 hours. Margate is a further 3/4 hour run from Medway. Leaving Norfolk after 6 pm would give a good run. It tends to be a better run Norfolk to Kent rather than Kent to Norfolk. Edit, Just read your post, leaving 10ish would get you through at a hopefully quiet time and you would still have time for an ice cream on the beach.
  8. Yes, I have noticed that about you
  9. To put it into context from what I have seen, The lease isup for renewal soon. The Parish Council want to encourage more boaters to use local businesses. The BA attended the discussion. The PC are considering a section of short stay moorings to increase visitor numbers during the day that revert to overnight stays later in the day. Not quite the same as some of the wild speculation on social media.
  10. Given the reduction in hire yards and the subsequent conversion to private moorings, combined with the increase in private owners, it shouldn't be a suprise that moorings are getting scarce. If a private owner goes out cruising that doesn't free up a potential space, whereas when a hire boat is out a space is freed up in the yard.
  11. It is getting worse. I notice it happens more in the rain. It seems to be a case of head down and get to the mooring as soon as possible. Cruising should be a journey, not a destination.
  12. Dear all, Please be aware that the National Canoe Marathon Championship event is taking place on the River Yare this weekend (22 & 23 July). The event will take place between Trowse Eye (Whitlingham Boat Club) and the Waters Edge pub at Bramerton. Racing takes place all day on both days and there will be multiple competitors on the river. The river is open as normal however if navigating in the area please exercise care and caution, there will be safety boat cover, buoys in the channel to mark the course and on some bends in the river to stop corner cutting. Rangers are aware of the event and have liaised with the event organisers to ensure the standard rules of the river are followed. If you have any further concerns or queries please contact Broads Control on 01603 756056 or email Broads.Control@broads-authority.gov.uk Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall Senior Communications Officer Direct dial 01603 756034 Broads Authority Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road, Norwich NR1 1RY
  13. Welcome to the forum, a mine of useful information. Please let us know how you get on.
  14. Most landlines are being phased out. Business systems are now mainly only internet based. Unless you have a plug in single handset you will lose telephone use in a power cut these days. At work we kept a single plug in phone for use in power cuts. Many landlines sit in the corner and are never used now unless it is a nuisance call. We only have one 87 year old friend who rings it now, everyone else phones our mobiles. The ones who will be penalised are the elderly without internet. Hopefully they are making exceptions for these customers and it is a slow change over scheme.
  15. Dear all, Please find attached NTM 05 of 2023 regarding maintenance works at Haddiscoe New Cut. 16. I needed a different cockpit table for the Shetland, White Knight, as the one's supplied were too big and to small. I purchased an old walnut cabinet for very little money last year and dismantled it into parts and timber. For this project I used one of the doors and braced underneath to take the leg socket. Youngest grandson, Knight, helped design, prepare and make it and suggested having a removable chess board insert. He has become very good at chess and always beats me now. I found a 3d printed puzzle that formed the board complete with a 3d printed chess set for under £15 on ebay. Lots of trimming, planing, sanding and varnishing later we have a completed project.
  17. Summer will resume next Thursday when we come up for 6 weeks. 😎 We have 4 weeks peace and quiet then a trip back home for the weekend and to pick up all 4 grandchildren aged 8, 12, 14 and nearly 16. They are with us for 6 days before being collected, we then have a week to recover before returning home. The shetland will be double moored to provide overflow accommodation for the two grandsons.
  18. Who will complete their boat first, JanetAnne or Grendel Sorry Grendel, couldn't resist.
  19. They are stepping back and the dayboats have gone but they are still advertising moorings.
  20. I think you might mean three marinas Buccaneer are not doing dayboats any more but are still doing private moorings.
  21. I got our first boat as a birthday present for Matron and told her she was worth the cost
  22. Gentlemen, Please remember the ToS, This is a friendly forum, you have different opinions, both valid. Opinions can be expressed without vitriol, that way members will read posts rather than skipping them.
  23. I have seen many electric day boats up and down the Yare for a few years. The red Bishy boats regularly come down from Thorpe and Brooms and Buccaneers from Brundall to Norwich. This isn't the first year Brooms have run them, they know their boats and customers.
  24. Our shop can supply a very nice NBN burgee The shop is accessed via the 3 bars / lines at the top of the page.
  25. Given the width of the Yare it is probably safer than a narrower waterway that is shared. The biggest draw back is boaters of all types seeing 6mph as a minimum target speed rather than a maximum and the subsequent wake they produce. It certainly isn't a place for a novice SUP but I do see plenty of experienced ones most days. I often see a couple of SUP doing litter collections in the margins.
