  1. I can't remember what make it is but it is about 10 years old now. From memory it is 15 litre They cost about £200 now. The important point is to make sure that they reset if the power / timer goes off.
  2. I have always run a small tube heater in the engine compartment and a heater in the centre cabin, with plugin thermostats, set at 4 degrees. A dehumidifier in the galley on a timer, 10am to 4pm and the curtains open slightly on the sunny side. All windows closed. Water tank is drained and taps open. I have a tee with a valve set at the lowest accessible area of pipework to drain the pipework. Last year it cost me about £75 in electricity over winter. The big advantage is the boat is never cold and damp when we turn up to use it over winter and takes little effort to redo when we leave.
  3. Vaughan, sorry, I should have made my point clearer. I was only referring to moorings rather than access. I doubt that I would be welcome on either clubs moorings without being a member.
  4. Isn't this similar to Blake's purchase of the lease at Ranworth, not sure that has fulfilled its original intention. The non tidal area of the river Medway has a couple of plots of land owned by cruising clubs, paid for by members, cared for by volunteers. Moored on only by members. If the suggested plan happened on the Broads, would anybody be allowed to use them, in which case why would anyone make an annual subscription. If it was limited to subscribers what is the point of doing it.
  5. My Topliner doesn't have a weed filter internally, it has a grill over the inlet externally.
  6. The market seems to be flooded with smaller boats, Norman's, Vikings etc. The prices of these older boats has dropped because of this. Hampton safaris are holding up for a good example but anything needing work is hanging around. The tag of, needs some TLC, appears to put buyers off. Anything above 28' feet, in good condition looks like it will sell, perhaps slower than in the past. The price range £20k to £50k looks to be holding up at present. Budget boaters will be hardest hit by the squeeze on disposable income, hence the number of boats coming on the market in that range. There are also a lot of sports cuddy boats about, day use is becoming too expensive to justify. I think bigger, luxury boats will be next to feel the squeeze. The key to selling at the moment is to price it well and be in very good condition otherwise it will sit there for a long time. I have seen Calypso's priced from 15k to 35k, in various conditions, but that is a big price range for some internal upgrades. Priced right, everything sells. The problem is nobody wants to lose money on selling but are happy to make money in better times. "The value of your Investments can go down as well as up and is not guaranteed at any time. 9. I did Tryfan one November, it was cold and bleak, the coldest I have ever felt. Realy didn't enjoy it 🥶

  11. Thanks Dan. It would be great to see the progress, if you have time. Good luck with it, fire damage must be difficult to deal with Sorry, couldn't resist. 😇
  12. The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is in most schools locally, it helps but isn't a substitute for a good week long outdoor adventure. I always noticed the girls gained far more from the trips and became more outgoing. We disguised the trips as geography field trips and accepted all pupils even if it wasn't one of their options. The staff were mainly from the PE department, they could at least keep up with the youngsters 😁 The Kent Mountain Centre at Llanberis became a victim of KCC cuts when all subsidies were removed and it became unaffordable, very short sighted.
  13. I knew it couldn't have been a fire as it wasn't all over social media 😁
  14. I used to help take year 11 groups from the school where I was Chair of Governors to the outward boand centre near Snowdon. All the activities lead to going up Snowdon at the end of the week, this usually took place in May. One year the school did an extra visit in February for 10 pupils who were looking to join the armed forces, the activities were a lot more robust. Heavy snow came down towards the end of the week. By chance a group of Gurkhas from Chatham were camping in the centre grounds on a search and rescue course. They offered to shadow our group closely if they wanted to go up. I was volunteered to go with them and two instructors. I am glad I did it, but only after getting back to base, it was exhausting. The Gurkhas ruled out the PYG track fortunately. They were excellent guides and motivators. Of the 10 pupils, 9 joined up and had great careers in the forces. We met up with the Gurkhas a few weeks later when they returned to Chatham and treated them to lots of drinks in their local pub. I haven't been up a mountain in 15 years but did manage every route up Snowdon, even on the train but that day was the best one ever. The most rewarding thing with these trips was taking 45 imature 15 year olds to Wales but bringing back 45 young adults who had leant more in a week outdoors than they did in a year in a classroom.
  15. It has every time I have gone up in Winter, much nicer to do it in late spring I eventually decided 😁
  16. This is one that has been for sale in Brundall, from a distance in poor weather ? Brundall to the north with a stop over in Reedham. I can make the theory fit the facts 😁
  17. I used to enjoy surveying in Sandwich, some very interesting buildings. Watch out for overnight closures on the M2 this week.
  18. My grandchildren all learnt to PB on the broads, four hours of tuition each. They have had two sessions after this and only got wet once, as part of their first lesson to show they could get back on the board. A few weeks ago we took them up above Coltishall. I ended up in a canoe ( never again ). It was beautiful there but very busy. They would be safer on the Yare down as far as Brundall rather than at Wroxham below the bridge purely because of the number of boats and the concentration of new helms. They choose the quieter areas. We never hear too many complaints that boaters have to give way to sail, what is the problem with SUP.
  19. Looks like the whole company has gone into insolvency.
  20. The biggest danger to a paddleboarder is the helm of a boat that isn't keeping a good lookout or is going faster than it is safe to do given the conditions and traffic on the river. Paddleboarders, canoes, day boats and wind powered boats all have an equal right to enjoy the Broads safely. That safety is the responsibility of ALL users and education is sadly lacking in some users of all types of craft.
  21. The other post with the link is back ready for comments.
  22. If you are using sand and cement, mix it dry and work it into the joints, don't over brush it as it separates the cement dust out. A nice thin scaper helps get it in narrow joints. Do an area then lightly sprinkle water over the area and allow it to go off. Keep some of the same mix incase you get areas that sink away, you get a perfect colour match then. Easy joint is great and I have used it on slabs with voids. It has been down five years without issue. A little tip, if you have to leave an opened easy joint container with some left in it, cover the contents with water, it stays usable for weeks, just drain the water and apply. I wouldn't use anything else now.
