  1. It may have been 'informal' advice from the planning department, a very useful service from the majority of planning departments.
  2. I sold one of our old Transits for scrap, we found out it was exported to Somalia. I half expected to see it on the news with the company sign writing, the roof cut open and a machine gun mounted.
  3. Given this quote from the existing owners, "They said the reason for the sale was that, after more than a decade of ownership, they wanted to focus on their other company, a strategic land and property development business". I doubt very much that it will be snapped up by someone looking to redevelop the site for housing. The refusal of the pods makes it clear that further development is limited.
  4. I wonder if this was triggered by the planning refusal for the floating pods in the marina.
  5. Helen, It is just picking up on the nearest river. If you click on the location bar it opens up a list of broads location. I assume it will work on all locations but is marketed as a Broads app. Edit, It doesn't appear to load info outside of the Broads.
  6. I will be thinking of you all tomorrow. As well as mourning your loss also celebrate Ian's life and achievements and remember the good times you all had together.
  7. We don't always get notice of minor updates but can choose when to update to a new version, that is a decision made by our brilliant Tech team. As the forum is hosted by a major provider we have the best security available. I screen all new members and they automatically go on preauthorisation.
  8. "It's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission." 😁
  9. Been there, done that, far too often.
  10. I phoned with a query early January, answered straight away and advice given.
  11. BA notice for info Unfortunately due to a power issue in the immediate area, all of the electric charging points at our Ranworth Staithe mooring are currently out of action. UK Power Networks are aware of the issue and we are hopeful that it will be rectified soon. We will issue an update when the posts are operational again.

  13. The charge is 77p a unit, which is what they are buying in at. It is also the cost they are paying for there own substantial consumption. Like many, they seem to have fixed at the peak of the increases but at least have held off passing on the new rate. Fortunately I loaded up a couple hundred pounds worth before the increase. Hopefully the fixed contract is a short one. It is a price I am willing and able to pay as I really like my mooring.
  14. It is a pre paid card system with an annual connection charge. It appears that the higher rate has been in force for some time but the increase has been held back. There is no mark up on what they are charged. The last couple of years have been a gamble on getting fixed commercial contracts and many firms have got it wrong with hindsight.
  15. Having just found out the unit charge has increased to 77p a unit, up from 60p a unit, what are others paying.
  16. Timothy Whites started of as a ship's chandlers.
  17. Showing your age there Grendel 😁
  18. I have arranged for a donation on behalf of the forum to Hemsby lifeboat station in memory of Ian. Hemsby lifeboat was a great passion for him and it is a service that needs even more support at the moment. The donation appears in my name but does allow them to claim gift aid.
  19. Any recommendations on breakdown cover. I have been with RAC for over 20 years and never called them out. £140 last year, £210 this year for renewal at the end of March. I had a call from them today offering a early renewal of £160, only if I discuss it there and then. They couldn't email details until they had explained it. I hate this tactic and told them so, they sent an email with details and said they will phone again tomorrow. If they are this desperate they can go whistle. Any recommendations of real life experience with smaller companies would be much appreciated.
  20. Good morning, Boating News - Notice is hereby given that there will be an inspection being carried out on Breydon Bridge, which involves lifting the nose end of the bridge into a semi-lifted position. A safety work boat will be present in the channel within the affinity of the bridge. The works are due to take place on 31 January 2024, between the hours of 20:00hrs and 06:00hrs. Note: During the above period, navigation will remain open, but the bridge will be unable to lift for larger vessels and the centre span will be closed. Vessels must exercise great care whilst proceeding past the vicinity of the works. Please ensure that the area is taken into consideration for passage planning and when navigating in this area. If travelling across Breydon Water, you will need to pass through Breydon Bridge. Do not risk going through the bridge unless you have sufficient clearance, always check the gauge at the side of the bridge. When approaching go through the right-hand side span and navigate between the two arrows on the bridge. Keep about 100 yards distance from any boat going in the same direction to give yourself room to manoeuvre. Yacht skippers have difficulties in manoeuvring their yachts with their masts down and it is impossible for them to reverse, so motor cruisers should always give way to yachts. 21. They only have a few moorings so maybe you need to book. Perhaps they need to invest in reserved mooring signs.
  22. I have left the following tribute on the condolence page on behalf of the forum members. Ian was a staunch supporter of the Norfolk Broads Network Forum, he joined in 2014 and made nearly 7000 posts. Ian always displayed good humour and was liked and respected by everyone. He kept us entertained during lockdowns with his tales of his work life, he also shared recipes and cooking tips freely. Although many members only knew Ian through his online presence, he was considered as a friend by many. He bravely shared his health battles and urged others to look after their health. Ian, you will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and condolences go to Marina and his family at this sad time. Rest in peace Ian.
  23. Good afternoon all, Please be aware that we are currently undertaking tree shear work on Fleet Dyke near Rockland (on the River Yare). During the works, we are asking vessels to navigate with care in the vicinity and to follow instructions from the Rangers on site. The works should be completed by Friday afternoon this week.
