  1. It is great to welcome our latest sponsor BK Windows. Please take time to have a look at their advert below in our sponsors area. Thank you to BK windows.
  2. The boat going under a bridge wasn't your main issue
  3. https://lucasestak.com/en-en/products/new-way Try this John, from his own website.
  4. The Yare has been very quiet for hire boats, only two at the yacht station this afternoon and only 3 heading from Brundall to Norwich.
  5. I have now been in the pub to eat three times in the last few weeks and have to say I like it, the food is acceptable and the service friendly and efficient. The place was booked out and also plenty of people in the garden area. The pub moorings are right outside but were empty. The fact it was so busy without relying on boaters mooring is encouraging. The decor is as far as you can get from the smokey rundown image of it's past. It is light and comfortable now. Well worth a visit.
  6. That was difficult using a phone camera on a boat that wouldn't stay still last night.
  7. Just taken this, it is very misty on the river.
  8. I was saddened to hear this morning that Mike had passed away. Mike and Pat were great supporters of the forum over many years. Anyone who purchased from the shop has Mike and Pat to thank for a swift service. Mike acted as a moderator and always offered sound advice. My condolences and thoughts go out to Pat and their family at this sad time. Rest peacefully Mike.
  9. Dear all, Notice is hereby given that Mutford Lock will be operating under restricted conditions in order to conduct emergency repairs. During this period, the lock will remain open but with limited opening hours dependent on the tide. When planning passage or for other enquiries, please contact Oulton Broad Yacht Station on 01502 574946 or VHF Channel 73. Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall Senior Communications Officer Direct dial 01603 756034 Broads Authority Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road, Norwich NR1 1RY
  10. On the river front at Brundall Gardens I get a reasonable signal on O2. If I move towards the station it goes completely. The marina wifi is quite good, dependent on where you are but can be disrupted by poor weather as it is beamed in from some miles away.
  11. Unfortunately peoples dreams rarely make a good business, I have mentored a number of dreamers, usually advising them to invest their money in a savings account instead. Small business start up is a faster way to burn money than a boat. Of 30 odd start ups I have mentored over the years, half stopped in time, 10 failed and 5 or 6 flourished eventually.
  12. Not sure if this will work, trying to copy from the email on my phone. This is way above my training 😁 1692737905713_Broads Authority Integrated Access Strategy scoping paper.docx
  13. Dear Broads stakeholder, Please note that the timetable in yesterdays Integrated Access Strategy scoping paper email ( section 9) contained dates which were not correct. This has now been updated and is reflected in the attached scoping paper. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused. The deadline for comment has not changed and is still midday Monday 18 September. 14. The A11 has overnight closure at the moment. The sign posting for the diversion is shockingly bad.. As you come off the A11 heading towards Norwich the only sign sends you back down the A11 for 2 miles and around the roundabout back to where you get diverted back down the A11. I ignored this and followed the sat nav, that takes you to a closed off Junction. I eventually found diversion signs. All in all it adds an extra half hour to the journey. 4 grandchildren are now onboard with the overflow ( boys )housed in the accommodation barge ( Shetland ) alongside. I think we are going to need a bigger boat. 😇
  15. Dear Broads stakeholder, We are launching a review of the Broads Authority Integrated Access Strategy (IAS), a key document which relates to the Broads Plan. The IAS guides the provision of access on land and between land and water in the Broads. It also guides mooring and de-masting provision on the Broads waterways, as previously covered by the Authority’s 2006 Mooring Strategy. As the first step in the review process, we would like to ask for your comments on the attached scoping paper. This scoping paper describes the values, principles and aims of the new strategy. At the end of the paper is a table with six questions. Please use the spaces in the table to give your replies to the questions and return them to kylie.moos@broads-authority.gov.uk. There is deadline for comments is midday Monday 18 September. A further consultation on the draft new strategy will take place later in the year (the timetable is laid out in the scoping paper). Your feedback at this early stage of the process is really valued. 16. Been there and done that on a Calypso, not a nice experience. The leisure batteries were drained by a fault and the boat filled up to floorboard level. Saucepans take ages to empty a bilde. As a belt and braces measure I fitted a second auto pump higher up and wired to the engine battery on the basis I would rather have a flat start battery than a submarine. I have done the same on the present boat.
  17. If it was the Olympics, it would have been silver, that is nothing to be disappointed about. The England mens team manager said before the match that he couldn't offer them any advice, they were already doing better than the men.
  18. They have introduced most of those this year as a trial, much to the consternation of a few nay sayers who thought it would ruin the peace of the area. Apparently it didn't.
  19. Boatshed Norfolk and Suffolk. There is very little on the market, plenty of ski type boats and large boats but not a lot in the middle.
  20. The idea of fun for a younger generation is at odds with what the Broads are about for some more traditional boaters. My grandchildren love coming up to the boat, Two have just come back from 10 days in Kos but both said they would rather have extra time in Norfolk. They all like being on the boat but also want to do paddleboarding, canoeing, river swimming nature walks and fishing. For them, the Broads isn't just about traditional boating. My nephew and his girlfriend had a mid week break from Brundall as 21st birthday presents, they really enjoyed it and would come back, just not for a full week. These examples are the future of the Broads and they need to be accommodated by those of us who have had our time to shape the area to how we like it, otherwise it will become a run down and uninviting destination. Who remembers Butlins of the 70s and 80's. They ended up having to re-invent their offering as the Hi de hi campers stopped going and went abroad. Now they offer short breaks that don't include damp wooden ex army chalets. Not for me but they do appeal to a younger generation.
  21. You can imagine how much fun that was on the river front. A few boats away from us is an older couple, the gentleman is very unsteady, it could have turned out a lot worse if he was standing up at the time.
  22. That was my main reason for posting, if we don't provide evidence they can't act. Posting of FB only achieves confirmation of how stupid someone has been and a short lived general rant. I did post on a fb group straight away to warn others that the boat was heading down stream but later removed the photo and video so as not to predudice any future case.
  23. A lot, I am back in Kent for a few days
  24. We had a speeding boat last night that could have caused serious damage or injury. It was the worst I have seen in 12 years where we moor.I videoed it and sent it to Broads control overnight. This morning the local ranger pulled over and took a statement. It will be followed up with the owner and may be taken further. Now that is what I call efficient. Had I had the Shetland alongside we would be looking at very serious damage. Thank goodness my grandchildren weren't up this week. This is why it is better to report to BA with video or photos, they can achieve more than social media.
