  1. I got our first boat as a birthday present for Matron and told her she was worth the cost
  2. Gentlemen, Please remember the ToS, This is a friendly forum, you have different opinions, both valid. Opinions can be expressed without vitriol, that way members will read posts rather than skipping them.
  3. I have seen many electric day boats up and down the Yare for a few years. The red Bishy boats regularly come down from Thorpe and Brooms and Buccaneers from Brundall to Norwich. This isn't the first year Brooms have run them, they know their boats and customers.
  4. Our shop can supply a very nice NBN burgee The shop is accessed via the 3 bars / lines at the top of the page.
  5. Given the width of the Yare it is probably safer than a narrower waterway that is shared. The biggest draw back is boaters of all types seeing 6mph as a minimum target speed rather than a maximum and the subsequent wake they produce. It certainly isn't a place for a novice SUP but I do see plenty of experienced ones most days. I often see a couple of SUP doing litter collections in the margins.
  6. In the summer holidays 3 of my 4 grandchildren afed 12 to 16 will be doing SUP in Norfolk. They have all completed 8 hours training and supervised use with a professional instructor. They may use the Yare and Surlingham Broad depending on the levels of river traffic or opt for a quieter area in the northern broads. Wherever they are, the will be visible and avoiding the main channels. All of them have been driving and mooring boats for a few years, they are aware of the failings of some helms. These youngsters are future boat owners and hirers and should be encouraged to use the waterways, they are there for all to enjoy and use safely.
  7. You could get an F in CSEs by spelling your name correctly in my day In my 2000 plus pupils Secondary Modern we had an assortment of strict older teachers and NQT hippies. In the 70s education was a bit hit and miss. In my grandsons Grammer school, four of his subject teachers are Dr. Even at year seven. They have a couple of Professors in the upper years.
  8. They mass planted through existing grass verges, no obvious prep work.
  9. No mow May has been stretched until the end of June because of the benefits to bugs and eco stuff. My council now save £30k + a year, by planting huge flower beds on parts of wide verges, daffs, tulips and hyacinths amonst wild flowers. The ongoing savings are from the reduction in mowing these areas for parts if the year. They are stunning, particually in the earlier parts of the year. Councils do get it right simetimes, just not often enough.
  10. The two worst prisons were Maidstone and Canterbury, both Victorian relics. I was told I couldn't take in anything sharp or a potential weapon. That was a bit tricky as I needed lots of instruments and tools. I had two wardens, one for me and one for my weopons collection, all logged in and out again.
  11. Maybe speed humps might work
  12. I have never been called, always wanted to go. I have been called three times as an expert witness, all fraud cases involving property. The first one was a lesser amount and was scheduled for one week. I stayed after giving evidence to watch the proceedings for the rest of the week. It was fascinating. During the last one I was asked by the prosecution QC. to give advice to the defence team to clarify various technical points as thier expert witness was taken ill. The meeting was held in the Judges chambers with both teams. That was a sureal day.
  13. I have lost chickens here and ducks at a previous house. I am on the edge of a rural area so get foxes, sparrow hawks and herons, they all want to eat things from my garden. My daughter in law and two grandchildren live just around the road from us, they discovered a den with five cubs under their shed earlier in the year. Grandson re-purposed the video door bell to watch them come and go, I suspect this one is one of them. I will get number two son to come down and let his dog run around and leave his mark.
  14. I seem to have been adopted by a Fox cub. It has been getting nearer the house each day and this evening whilst sitting in the lounge I looked around as he walked through the door, he turned tail and ran.
  15. Thank you, Excessive wake is the bane of my life being on a river front mooring. At least I won't have to shout at you and wave my arms as you pass Brundall.
  16. I closed the app, shut the browser and restarted the phone, then I had a small drink and a lay down. Not sure what fixed it, the drink and sleep or the engineer reset. I don't do tech.
  17. I logged out, closed it down and rejoined, all ok now.
  18. The good reports were both in the last few months.
  19. Our sponsors Boat-shift have a good reputation.
  20. Tilly hat ordered following advice from members, the baseball cap will only be used in shady areas now. My neurologist suggested a winter hat to keep the cold and wind of my head and a summer one to stop my head getting too hot, I hadn't actually done anything about a summer hat until I read this thread, thank you all.
  21. Driving on the road is inherently dangerous, but billions do.
  22. A copy and paste of the owners reply is fine, the other side of the story is good for balance.
  23. It is thread drift, happens a lot when no new information is available.
