  1. Dear Broads stakeholder, We are launching a review of the Broads Authority Integrated Access Strategy (IAS), a key document which relates to the Broads Plan. The IAS guides the provision of access on land and between land and water in the Broads. It also guides mooring and de-masting provision on the Broads waterways, as previously covered by the Authority’s 2006 Mooring Strategy. As the first step in the review process, we would like to ask for your comments on the attached scoping paper. This scoping paper describes the values, principles and aims of the new strategy. At the end of the paper is a table with six questions. Please use the spaces in the table to give your replies to the questions and return them to kylie.moos@broads-authority.gov.uk. There is deadline for comments is midday Monday 18 September. A further consultation on the draft new strategy will take place later in the year (the timetable is laid out in the scoping paper). Your feedback at this early stage of the process is really valued. Kind regards Kylie Moos (She/her) Guidance on gender pronouns Administrative Officer Direct dial 01603 756044 Broads Authority Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road, Norwich NR1 1RY
  2. Been there and done that on a Calypso, not a nice experience. The leisure batteries were drained by a fault and the boat filled up to floorboard level. Saucepans take ages to empty a bilde. As a belt and braces measure I fitted a second auto pump higher up and wired to the engine battery on the basis I would rather have a flat start battery than a submarine. I have done the same on the present boat.
  3. If it was the Olympics, it would have been silver, that is nothing to be disappointed about. The England mens team manager said before the match that he couldn't offer them any advice, they were already doing better than the men.
  4. They have introduced most of those this year as a trial, much to the consternation of a few nay sayers who thought it would ruin the peace of the area. Apparently it didn't.
  5. Boatshed Norfolk and Suffolk. There is very little on the market, plenty of ski type boats and large boats but not a lot in the middle.
  6. The idea of fun for a younger generation is at odds with what the Broads are about for some more traditional boaters. My grandchildren love coming up to the boat, Two have just come back from 10 days in Kos but both said they would rather have extra time in Norfolk. They all like being on the boat but also want to do paddleboarding, canoeing, river swimming nature walks and fishing. For them, the Broads isn't just about traditional boating. My nephew and his girlfriend had a mid week break from Brundall as 21st birthday presents, they really enjoyed it and would come back, just not for a full week. These examples are the future of the Broads and they need to be accommodated by those of us who have had our time to shape the area to how we like it, otherwise it will become a run down and uninviting destination. Who remembers Butlins of the 70s and 80's. They ended up having to re-invent their offering as the Hi de hi campers stopped going and went abroad. Now they offer short breaks that don't include damp wooden ex army chalets. Not for me but they do appeal to a younger generation.
  7. You can imagine how much fun that was on the river front. A few boats away from us is an older couple, the gentleman is very unsteady, it could have turned out a lot worse if he was standing up at the time.
  8. That was my main reason for posting, if we don't provide evidence they can't act. Posting of FB only achieves confirmation of how stupid someone has been and a short lived general rant. I did post on a fb group straight away to warn others that the boat was heading down stream but later removed the photo and video so as not to predudice any future case.
  9. A lot, I am back in Kent for a few days
  10. We had a speeding boat last night that could have caused serious damage or injury. It was the worst I have seen in 12 years where we moor.I videoed it and sent it to Broads control overnight. This morning the local ranger pulled over and took a statement. It will be followed up with the owner and may be taken further. Now that is what I call efficient. Had I had the Shetland alongside we would be looking at very serious damage. Thank goodness my grandchildren weren't up this week. This is why it is better to report to BA with video or photos, they can achieve more than social media.
  11. Dear all, Please find attached NTM 06 of 2023 regarding a navigation restriction due to the illuminated boat parade on the River Thurne through Potter Heigham and Womack Water (16 September 2023). 12. Glad to hear it. The siesta is really only going to be used as a day boat and once a year as an accommodation block for grandchildren, the trouble is the grandsons keep growing, one is 6' 2" at 14 and the 12 year old is catching him up. They no longer fit easily into the shetland. I would love a calypso again but at 28' it gets expensive to moor and toll. We nearly had a Hampton 12 years but opted for the Calypso. We are keeping the Topliner as it is idea for how we use it. The search continues.
  13. Twice the price of a similar one that has been updated and had a new engine in the last ten years or so. Optimistic I think.
  14. I missed out on the Siesta 20 but keep being drawn to Calypso's. They are too big for what I want and over my set budget, but I did enjoy the one I had on the Medway. I have been issued a very firm NO.
  15. We had a flying visit, it was good to put more faces to names and see the beautiful woodies. The owners were so welcoming and happy for people to board and have a look around. I am in awe of the time and skills devoted to preserving these classic boats. I found my dream boat, needless to say it was vetoed if it ever came up for sale. It was beautiful, shiny and impractical, ideal for me then.
  16. Go via the sponsors link below, I couldn't see a share option either.
  17. I removed the wiring and left the fitting as it is on tiling. My excuse is that it adds to the character of the boat.
  18. Good afternoon all, We have been informed by Network Rail that due to a mechanical fault, Somerleyton Swing Bridge is currently unable to swing for river traffic. The train line is also affected. We will issue a further update when we hear more. 19. I think this is the one.
  20. It is August, I know it feels like autumn but it definitely isn't December. First mention of the Santa
  21. The weather is looking good for the weekend, low 20s and dry.
  22. All those old buildings made the surveyor in me twitch, not enough to come out of retirement though. I forgot to add that it also has a Cathothlic church. The population is only 820.
  23. The pen is mightier than the sword, but news print is in a league of its own
