  1. The Royal Naval memorial in Chatham is on a large open historic fortification known as the Great Lines, overlooking Chatham town, surrounded by the Royal Engineers base and museum, Fort Amherst, the old naval dockyard, the former Royal Naval hospital and my old secondary school. Whilst at school the Great Lines were used for cross country running, ( I hated it ). The furthest point was the memorial. I appreciate the memorial more now than I did all those years ago.
  2. In the Broadcaster sent out with my ' great value ' toll renewal it says that charges at Reedham and Ranworth are proposed, other areas the charge is specified. Brace for some back tracking I think. Year 7 grandson's geography this term covers tourism, Norfolk Broads is listed with the real National Parks. He did explain to the teacher it is only a member of the NP family and the title can only be used for marketing purposes. He got awarded two house points for extra knowledge. He does listen to his grandad sometimes.
  3. Don't worry Helen, its electric vehicles, it won't last long
  4. I noticed the original link to the tide table but took a practical view that it was not linked to members content. Mods took the same view. I also look in on the Norfolk Broads Forum, it doesn't make me or anyone else a bad person 😁 The no cross links of content was agreed many years ago and is a courtesy to both sets of members and is an adult agreement.
  5. The toll rises are nothing in comparison to the rises in mooring fees, £200 to £300. I haven't seen any complaints about that being unreasonable considering they are mainly renting out land and quay headings with much lower staffing levels. Both are unwelcome.
  6. Flares might be back but there is no sign of my teenage waistline making a comeback.
  7. It all goes in a cycle, I am still waiting for kipper ties and flares to come back. 😁 In reality change tends to swing between extremes before settling in the middle. It is becoming an alien landscape to many of our generation at the moment.
  8. That is looking good Ian, is it a two part paint.
  9. The samsung browser 20.0 on android is the same issue Ian has, all other browsers work fine. Other versions of samsung browser appear to be ok.
  10. What Bikertov and Grendel said. My solution, Buy a large magnify glass. Next...

It is certainly a statement property. I would like to see another material used as well to break up the blackness and define the features. I would rather see a few unusual new builds rather than the usual bland boxes. Variety is the spice of life.
  12. Passed with flying colours. It is the 4th time Will has inspected this boat for me. I asked Will about the fire extinguishers and basically it needs to have pressure, not be damaged, and not to be partially discharged. I am glad I changed mine as a 7 year old extinguisher is probably pushing it, if it was in a commercial setting it would have been serviced 6 times by now. Will really is a nice guy.
  13. In 2007 Folkestone Kent suffered the effects of a 4.3 earthquake, relatively minor in comparison. Damage was mainly limited to cracked walls and toppled chimney structures but affected a large number of properties. The Turkish earthquake was approximately 2000 times stronger than Folkestone. Both were relatively shallow. If it had been 8.7, it would have been 15,500 times bigger. Were we to experience anything over about 7, we would suffer similar widespread damage and be in a similar situation as far as rescue and recovery are concerned. Thankfully we live in a more stable area and are in a position to offer emergency help to those who need it.
  14. Apparently so, it is an indication only. From memory they should be serviced every year after the first five years.. The old ones were purchased in 2015 for the 2015 inspection and also passed for the 2019 inspection. The label says service every year but guaranteed for 10 years. In theory they should scrape through two 4 yearly inspections. For powder ones they should be turned upside down and banged with a rubber mallet once a year to stop the powder becoming compacted. I used to take the old ones to work for training the staff on fighting a fire and being confident in using an extinguisher.
  15. Renewal again, seems like it was only done 2 years ago Will Kirby booked for Tuesday. Renewed fire extinguishers, how much !!! B and Q £30 cheaper than Screwfix for the same thing. Batteries changed in smoke detectors and CM detector. Fingers crossed for Tuesday although this will be his fourth visit so we shouldn't have any surprises. Fire stick installed on the tv although I could do with a longer hdmi lead to get the stick thing above the tv to get a better wifi signal. Next job is to take the loo out to replace the flush valve, nice. An added job is to insulate the blown air pipes after reading about the improvements others have achieved. I think I am going to use a couple of dismantled cylinder jackets and tape as access is a bit tricky. Might even find time to go for a run out in the Shetland if the sun shines.
  16. And off they go again.
  17. Aweigh now matches the published times at Brundall and my tide clock.
  18. Yes, same here after christmas, I thought my tide clock was playing up.
  19. Petty bickering is tedious enough in children. Please put an end to it before I do.
  20. Just in case anyone missed my request on the unexploded bomb thread, "Please draw a line now and move back to the original subject, this will avoid the need to lock the thread for a cooling off period". Moving the discussion to another thread does not alter that request. We have had a number of opinions, please lets avoid it decending into an argument.
  21. Perhaps it is time to reign in the whole discussion and remember the ToS and the fact this is a friendly place. I grew up in 60s and know that what was said and done then is not always acceptable now. Times change, often faster than we do as individuals and often not how we think they should. I have shared inappropriate jokes and comments to mates, but not on a public forum. Know your audience is a good start. In a world going through difficult times do we really need to add to it. Please draw a line now and move back to the original subject, this will avoid the need to lock the thread for a cooling off period.
  22. When the EDP say it is going to be exploded they should say, a contolled explosion, but that wouldn't make good headlines. The bomb disposal guys do this type of work a lot and know how to deal with it. I have always lived within the blast wave range of the SS Montgomery, now that has the potential to cause a lot of damage. Not something most people give a second thought to but we have the same regular jokes aimed at Sheerness.
