    hi

Hi Graham ,welcome from us two
  3. Thanks for that David interesting as ever
  4. I am sure I have heard of their boats being changed round at the Bridge in adverse conditions ,but bear in mind that their boats are deigned for these conditions and I know that the yard are accustomed to getting them under as they have experience and know them inside out..Not nowdays but it was a sight to see a Connoisseur weighted down with men and drums of water to get then under Wrowhan in times of flood with fractions of an inch to spare ,I swear you would not put your fingers in the clearance space
  5. Having changed our Princess to a Bounty to do the areas that we could previously not get to .I have more recently found that where we could always get through Potter at 6ft 6 to 8 inches and often leaving many boats behind ,we now find many occasions where Graham tells us he can get us through but we must be back in a day or two.It could be our timing or is this becoming a familiar pattern and would of course concern you if you had to get back to a hire base .Just out of interest among the boat owners we know and people on our moorings I have found a hire percentage of those who could get through had not done so and many said that they did not find an attraction in doing so .We love getting through and the peace to be found and its unchanged charm which is now only starting to be spoilt by some large modern buildings, but I think that the situation could be eased by maybe offering advantagious day boat rates to the larger boats to be able to see the other side .
  6. Welcome from us two as well,Enjoy
  7. Hi and welcome from us two.as John said a good first night could be had at Salhouse.Enjoy.
  8. Hi and welcome.you will find many threads covering this if you go back to the past posts , which I am sure will be of help.Plenty of nice places in the Northern Broads to explore .Enjoy.
  9. Went to day and met up with some friends and a few formulites including Captain Josh and Jo who helped while away the time in the queue.I managed to pick up some bargains, including a new fresh water pump from Brinckcrafts stall at a good price ,many bits and pieces that you just have to buy (although you have survived many years boating without ) and of course the mandatory hank of rope and another fender to add to the collection. In my view more stalls it seemed and better haggling prices ,but most important a good morning out and as the family had decided on having an excellent evening meal at the Rising Sun in Coltishall rounded off a good day.I must object most strongly to those that organise these things to have decided to have Mothers Day on the day of the Norfolk Jumble shows a lack of consideration for this traditional event on the first weekend in April.
  10. Count me in if the date is OK ,I have a Brownie 127 if any body has not got a camarea and fancy some real film photography
  11. Definitely adding a comment when I pay my tolls this week,at least they will know I am not a Happy Bunny
  12. Seems they have us by the short and curlys regarding the time scale where the Tolls are concerned due to the lack of time before renewal.Trouble is if they get away with it this year unchallenged what will be thrown at us next year.
  13. That is good news for you all at Maypole as well as all Broads users,we like the Bridge and Wayford and look forward to calling in this season.
  14. More unrest amongst the boating fraternity on the Broads ,whether this is the path to take remains questionable as obviously you will not be able to legally use your boat on the rivers with no toll so could still be visited by toll checkers who will obviously remain on your case,I know that others on here have made suggestions as to what action is possible ,so do you think this could work ?????????? 15. Just re reading "Magic of the Swatchways " by Maurice Griffiths also wrote other books on the East Coast and Thames estuary where the tales of the sands and occasional groundings are as true today as in the days in which they were written.Certainly and area to be treated with respect as I remember sailing with our sailing club many years ago of touching several times in the Walton Backwaters in an old Hilliard with a fairly deep keel but luckily we got off and saved spending the night at an angle on the mud .Always liked that part of the coast and up the London River .Any way although his books are Rag and Stick they make a good read about this part of the coast.
  16. Reading my current copy of Anglia Afloat which came several days after the announcements but contains comments made before the facts were fully known, has comments from some of the players involved of Piracy,Doomsday,Breach of Trust and much more .Mr P has stated that up to now toll payers have never been asked to pay their way in meeting the costs of the Authorities overheads but we must start paying now Many of you will remember the old days of Colegate when I would Imagine we had many less involved in Administration than in present times .The backlash is apparently being felt by many of those like us who are passionate about the Broads including the various Bodies pushing the Broads cause. On thing that struck me was the comparison that Organizations like councils etc making drastic cut backs in staff and overheads including the sharing of premises and job out sourcing but not it seems at BA ????????? Rant over
  17. From the EDP and the word "Betrayed " used in the news that we did not expect ,shows the regard that is held for Broads users after all that has been said recently regarding the use of our Tolls. The Increase in Tolls and Fuel forgetting other items will mean many of us will find it even harder to pay the costs of boating. This will impact on all aspects of Broads usage IMHO as the reduction in facilities by BA Information Centres etc in a time when we need to attract tourists that are holidaying in this country .I am not sure of all the factsbut there are those of you out there that will have views and it should at least lead to a bit of lively debate and maybe some way of collectively making our feelings felt. 18. Been up there several times and enjoy that trip round Norwich. We found no problems and I think a trip boat does the trip so I feel that the depth must be resonable ,but as said wath out for the odd trolley
  19. Hi and welcome from us two
  20. I like Rod have a "bathtub" and can even get under Thorpe at 6 ft 6 ins and love all areas of the Broads. When I told my local boatyard I had sold out "boat "( a Princess at 8 ft 5 ins ) and bought this he was indignant and corrected me and stated "you have bought Broads Boat that was designed for the job" ,and glad we were too As said try and find a way to hinge the screen maybe ,to make it easy to take down it will be well worth while
  21. Looking at the Hoseasons site for Moon Discovery I noticed that she had an inventory most priveteers would love ,bow and aft thrusters ,electric mud weight winch, depth sounder etc should make for efortless cruising .There was one fitted like this at Wayford some time ago and it was interesting to see him stop at a gap and just squeeze sideways with inches either end
