You just need the gelcoat filler to get the job done. The PP stuff is fine but be prepared for a lot of rubbing down. I used it to patch a small gelcoat chip in 2004 and I needed an electric sander to get it smooth. It dries very hard, even in winter!

We had a budget idea but from time to time it got exceeded when we thought enough money was available, only to struggle after after a downturn in our business!! Overall, in response to the OP, our running costs for engine servicing, lift out, anti foul are not too bad for a 24 foot boat. Drive leg service including lift out and back, around £350 every two years, engine servicing is done by me and a local buddy, cost of parts and beers plus dinner, not too bad at all. As to the rest of money and time spent, well that is down to me poshing her up now and then.......thats me own fault

Gas propex is cheaper but does eat gas. Looked into this option for us many times as it would be an easy fit but they do eat gas. Diesel is really our best option but would cost more to run...long term though, less fuel used and overall much more efficient.

Another point about navigating after dark is insurance. As a private owner I did check and as things stood years ago, I was not covered to navigate after dark and also not solo helm. All covered now but not a bad idea to make that call and check.

Well, after my visit yesterday and also in early July for two nights, it would seem the milton has done its stuff. I dosed the system after a full rinse in July and having not been there till yesterday, the water ran fine and no bad pongs, only milton. Her tanks are now empty in prep for winter so hope all is okay come 2018. Thanks for all the suggestions, well received!

Pretty much back to normal last night and this morning. Stayed on board last night and had no trouble reaching the mooring and the takeway fella delivered right on time!!
