  1. I do like the show, but as has been said before, so much of it has been scripted. I also like the repair shop, but not the stories, i like to watch the skills that are a dying art. Suzie Fletcher the saddle maker does amazing stuff with leather, and her borther Steve (an ex fireman i believe) is amazing where tiny intricate stuff is concerned. Other similar programmes i like are "Money for Nothing" and Find it, fix it, flog it". Both are good for showing how a lot of junk can be re-purposed into something more desirable, if a bit "trendy".
  2. The thing i like most about your posts Vaughn is your knowledge of Broads history. Yet again in this post, i`ve learned more more about the original evolution of the Broads and its way of life, something i doubt you will ever read from any tourist information site or NP site. Many thanks for that. It`s things like this that are so vital to promote the real broads, rather than the more modern day eco diversified beaurocratic inviro centre crap that so many young inexperienced post grad politically correct group are more likely to tell you today. if that makes sense?
  3. Thanks for that Nigel, where exactly is it, as i`d never heard of it before, and it sounds interesting. Definitely something to visit when in the area?.
  4. To be honest, why would anybody want to when there`s no destination and nowhere to moor?.
  5. So that`s a yes vote that you obviously did`nt want to publicly admit to?.
  6. Langley dyke has free mooring at its head, but Hardley dyke is all private moorings. However, hire and other private boats are legally allowed to cruise up and down Hardley dyke, but to discourage this they advertise "narrow dyke, difficult to turn, hire craft not recommended".
  7. This has been a very interesting thread, and a thread that begs a question - If there was to be a referendum, how would you vote if over the Broads being made a full NP where Sandford MUST apply, would you vote yes or no?. No tongue twisting dodges, a simple yes or no?. I`l start the ball rolling with an emphatic NO.
  8. I`ve just read on faceache about Bob Morse. He had a passion for mills since the age of 7, and always enjoyed reading or learning about wind power. He moved to Norfolk in 1947 and bought Thurne Mill in 1949 when a lot of mills were being demolished for scrap iron and rubble. As a result of his passion and hard work, Thurne Mill now stands high and proud, and is probably the finest advert for the Norfolk Broads. Yesterday January 2nd was the 13th aneversary of his passing, and he never saw the Mill restored to the standard it is today. Without him, cruising the middlle Bure and Thurne would these days be very different.
  9. Although not aimed at me, does he believe the Broads are an NP, no he does'nt Does he want the Broads to be an NP, yes he most certainly does. Despite his denial, it seems pretty obvious to me (and by the sound of it, others too) that he is determined to see the Broads become a full NP through continual stealth. Who was it who said on another thread "tell a lie for long enough, and everybody will accept it as the truth"?.
  10. That's who I meant, god alone knows why I said the Tremalo's?.
  11. According to the Tremalo's, it was golden
  12. I've no interest in the stories, but I love to see the team at work demonstrating such a high level of skills. One of the funniest things on there was when the two ladies who do cuddly toys were tasked to restore a leather hippo or rhino. They had to push the fresh stuffing into the body through its ar5e. The two ladies just corpsed.
  13. It's always a shame to lose someone like Ian, but it's also a shame to lose any friend. I never had the pleasure to meet Ian, but he was always a pleasure to converse with. RIP Ian. I'd also like to remember all our members who we've lost, as well as members lost spouses etc, and hope they're ALL upstairs looking down on us all with a smile. RIP all.
  14. As you will all know, I've always said the BA should be an elected authority. Vaughn's post above proves my reasoning for my beliefs. You can read a quick run down above about some of the history through Vaughn's lifetime of knowledge and experience, something you will NEVER find from the now required tick box ex university graduates, but then they've all got degree's in sociology or some form of diversity subject etc. It's people like Vaughan and others like him who have the knowledge and experience of life on and around the broads, and what is important for them, and NOT what is politically advantageous, so the BA should be run by those with proper knowledge. As for the BA advertising the Broads as an NP, which they admit it is'nt, Imagine going to buy a Ford Mondeo, you see one advertised, go to see it, and it's a Ford Fiesta, or vise versa, you go to see a Fiesta because that's all you want, but they try to fob you off with a Mondeo?. Yes you may get one or two that will accept it, but most will turn away and go, and very likely will never return, and that is more harmful to an industry than beneficial.
  15. Sorry it's late, but Karen and I wish ALL on the forum a very happy new year. As for all that run and make this forum so successful, many thanks for all the hard work and dedication you put in, and for putting up with me.
  16. Lucky devil, I've got 3 1/2 years to go yet. Happy New year Ian and Marina.
  17. Hi Ray, Karen and i wish you and your good lady, and your family a very happy new year. It was really great to meet you in September, hopefully we`ll meet up again this year (yes i know at this precise moment it`s 2019) when we`re up again in March and October. I wish ALL on the forum a very happy new year.
  18. I`ve got a grip on what day it is, but i think i`ve lost a year. I can`t believe it`s 2020 tomorrow. What`s so frightening is that`s your life going by so quick. Oh well, i`l have to contend myself with road testing the new Triumph 2,500cc Rocket 3 in a couple of weeks time. Do so while i still can.
  19. No new years resolution, never have done never will do. I always just try to get on with life.
  20. I`ve always prefered chips to floppy and greasy. I loathe crisp dry chips, and always have salad cream on mine.
  21. Maybe like me, they have a very deep mistrust of authority, especially an unellected authority that is NOT publicly accountable. Also, and with no disrespect for Tom, the BA has a historic reputation for acting on political gain, rather than what is best for the Broads and the livelihoods around them. And with three attempts to make the Broads a full NP, people would be foolish to believe it will never be so. One area where the BA could make a positive effort to help tourism would be to make it cheaper for yards to operate a hire fleet, especially on the southern rivers.
  22. Alpha 35 ctr ckpt. Probably the best boat that would suit your requirements. By your desire for ctr or aft cockpit, you rule out the Bounty 30 + 37, The Aquafibre DC30, and The Bermuda 34, and all the sub 35ft fwd dv Alphas. The Bourne / Broom 30 is a great boat, but a bit narrow for comfort on extended cruising time. A great many boats will fit the bill if the Thurne blockage was`nt a defining factor.
  23. Marshy, Before i post any more (crap?), i will point out, i mean no antagonism or deliberate annoyance whenever i quote any of your posts, far from it, i may disagree with SOME of your posts, but i will always respect your, and anybody else`s opposing view, and your rite to post it. I will ALWAYS welcome anybody`s opposing view, as should anybody else. As for the Sandford principle, as PW says, it MUST apply to allow any region to become a National Park, so i`l stand by that one. As for crying wolf every 5 minutes, i wonder how many times people have claimed "nobody told us", when in fact they had be warned time and time again, but chose to ignore the warnings?. The sign at Acle clearly states in the picture "National Park" which is claiming what it is supposed to be. Had it said something like "working with the Nation Parks Authority", or "in partnership with the National Park Authority", maybe, just maybe, some people might accept it. As i`ve stated several times before, Karen and i live on the fringes of the New Forest National Park, and know, and have worked with people who do, or have lived in the National Park boundries, and all have said how costly and restrictive it is to live in a house and/or run businesses in it. I`ve also seen a home restoration programme where the owners were disallowed to use Norfolk reed to re-thatch their cottage, yet were compelled by the NFNPA to have to import more expensive french reed thatch. Also, there have been several cases where people have had to re-paint houses and cottages because the NFNPA did`nt agree with the type of paint, or colour the owners chose, again, compelling them to use a different, and more expensive brand. If the Norfolk Broads WAS to gain full NP status, it could spell the end of a great many businesses and livelihoods on and around the Broads, just as it has in the Lake District NP. And i`d be more than happy to "cry wolf" a million times to stop that happening.
  24. First, I think it rude to question whether any member of this forum has any sense, so an apology wouldn't go amiss. No, the Broads is NOT an NP, so why continue to trade under that blatant lie?. Also Marshy, I find your comment "IMHO that is not going to happen at this time" possibly a bit of a giveaway. The words "AT THIS TIME" say a lot more than you think. Does this mean you know through your relationship with the BA you know, or have been lead to believe, the BA will in the near future be perusing FULL NP status, which is pretty obviously your personal preference?. And if that Is the case, then the Sandford Principle WILL apply.
