VetChugger
Not sure this is the correct spot but, no doubt, it will be shifted if not! Did a daft trick and slid open the roof with the aerial still mounted, knocked the thing over and broke it. I can't seem to find anything like it anywhere. I want very similar so as to use the existing holes! These are not the best photos but, hopefully, might ring bells with someone!
ranworthbreeze
Hi Trevor, I would try having that welded or braized. Here is a link to a stainless aerial that may work (it only has four fixing holes however) :- https://marinestore.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MTRA107SS&Category_Code=antenna-aerial-gps-mounts&Store_Code=mrst&gclid=COaqieSyt84CFQcq0wodW9gJuA https://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?MARINE-VHF-AERIALS---MOUNTINGS&l=0000000251 Regards Alan
BuffaloBill
That looks more like Aluminium than steel. Not so easy to find someone that can do it but not impossible. Can be cleaned up and polished like new if it is.
VetChugger
Yes, it is ally, doubt whether it would have "torn" like that if it were steel. And yes, I have experience of ally welding prices and used at least six big hankies to dry up my eyes! And there are six scews Alan!
dnks34
It may be easier and cheaper to remove the broken fitting, fill the holes with gelcoat filler and source something new that will fit the pole. we use this maxview pole mount/clamp as it fits well to the side of the boat and its easy to slide the pole out and put away when we are not there. https://www.sky4caravans.co.uk/product?pid=77 cheap to, its lasted 5 years so far and it holds a 6ft pole! Wildfuzz
You could always use a neat Teak or similar plate or pad under the new fitting to mask the old holes, could be shaped finished and fitted and would still be in keeping with the boat. Wildfuzz
Oh and use matching screws......
Baitrunner
I've got some ally welding rods, but never tried it myself as heard it is an illegitimate thing to weld - acquired them from the father in law (his welding was functional to use a polite term, not sure mine is much better to be honest). If it's a lost cause anyway, happy to give it a go? I think Stuarts idea might be the best though - as well as the screws - the things people pick up on
grendel
I hear Aluminium is best welded using Tig or MIg or one of the gassed welding systems to keep the oxidisation down while welding.
ExUserGone
It depends if it's a good grade of ali or a crap die cast ali full of zinc, if it's reasonable ali I can get it welded for you no problem but from the photo I'd say it's likely to be unweldable crud. Can you get one made in stainless?
ZimbiIV
Tidy the broken bit up a bit put some matching screws in, and move the B_____y aerial where it is save to open the roof. paul
Viking23
Could you use a stainless steel stanchion here is one from vetus, to give you an idea. If you google Stainless stanchion and view images, there are several designs.
ExUserGone
Just chuck it in the river Trevor, the telly is mostly crap anyway.
