The 4 W's Afloat In Sep 21

Leisurely departure from Wroxham at about 8.30 this morning and headed towards Wroxham Broad where we chucked (well lowered!) the mud weight while we had breakfast etc. Now gently poodling down the Bure behind another cruiser and about 4 day boats behind us, one of which to the annoyance of an oncoming cruiser decided he liked the upstream side of the river! After much gesticulating the day boat thought better of it and came back over to the correct side! Next stop is Ludham for a pump out and then hopefully moor up the other side of the bridge as per the advice given earlier.

Moored up at Ludham bridge for the day having had a pump out at the boatyard prior to mooring up the other side way past the watering point! Lovely weather and now just watching the boats pass to and fro!! The guy at the boatyard was very helpful and pleasant so gave him a tip as well! Looks like we’ll be eating on board tonight as the dog inn is a little further away than expected. (Just had a woodie go past - Merlin!)

We must have passed you as we headed up The Ant towards How Hill earlier this afternoon.  We’re going to Stalham for fuel and Tesco’s tomorrow, so will look out for you.

Which boat were you? We’ve been here since lunchtime.

Tonight’s entertainment has started! The lads on the two rafted boats are now jumping from roof to roof! We’re waiting for the splash!!!

Glad we’re safely moored in peace at Paddy’s Lane.  We saw loads of Richardson’s boats heading down The Ant.  With How Hill and all of the wild moorings occupied, there was always going to be an issue somewhere.  Glad they didn’t stop here btw!! 😉

Plan for today, head up to Barton Broad then Stalham. Depending on availability of a mooring spot,  will either overnight in Stalham or come back down to either Neatished or Irstead. Looks like it’s going to be another hot one today 😁😁

Have a look in to Paddy’s Lane too, there’s usually room there. And it’s quieter.

Well, Tesco shop done!  Spoke to Mouldy's better half on the way round past the museum - lovely to meet you! Realised we're actually moored up in Heron Quay not Swan Quay - Doh!! Cracking weather yet again, how lucky have we been this week! Decided to eat in tonight - roast chicken, new potatoes and fine green beans. Topped up the beer and wine stock as well :default_eusa_dance:thinking of heading down to Acle Bridge tomorrow morning, stop there the night and then head back up to Thurne Dyke for our last night before handing boat back on Friday morning.

We tried Gayes Staithe earlier and it was packed.  I didn’t bother chugging round to Neatishead, it’s a lovely spot, but can get too busy and needless to say, Irstead was also full.  Paddy’s Lane might be a good shout for tonight.  Nice and quiet, off the main river so not disturbed by much passing traffic.

Sorry I missed you earlier, perhaps catch up later in the week!

Blimey!! I'm beginning to wonder if it's safe to stay overnight here in Heron Quay!! Just witnessed a hire boat (not Richardsons) come into the quay at a quick rate of knots and bounce off another hire boat (also not Richardsons), not once but twice!! I quickly informed them to drop their revs and slow down as they came past our bow at about 4 mph! they then proceeded to come in side on just past us, bumping the quay.  It was then that another person took over the helm and with the help from a couple of Richardsons staff who had shot round in their van to offer assistance, they managed to moor up stern on down near the end. (I hope we leave before they do in the morning!!).  Then shortly afterwards, another hire boat, this time from Richardsons and a front steer decided to make a pigs ear of leaving the quay having only just had their training session!  I know everyone can make mistakes, me included, but surely the first rule and the easiest to remember is keep your speed down!!  Oh well never a dull moment :default_biggrin:
