fishfoxey
Can anyone please recommend a breakdown service that covers the southern broads. Are these services a yearly subscription or are they a pay on breakdown type of thing. Also what's the rough cost? Thx in advance
NeilB
Although Boulters and Sutton Staithe are based up north they do cover all the Broads, think about £150 or so. Not had any dealings with them though.
Mouldy
The only two breakdown services that I’m aware of are both run by northern based yards, Boulters or Sutton Staithe. Both cover the entire network and both are well reviewed and appear equally good. Check their websites for details.
Ray
I have signed up with Sutton Staithe for some years and although I haven't called them out (so far) I know from talking informally to them that they really give a dependable and efficient service. Cheesey69
We needed Sutton staithe last year and they was there when needed. I know it’s obvious but when the dung hits the air mover you might as well be in the North Sea. Twice we had engine trouble, one of which was terminal and it’s was a relief to see them approaching in a borrowed boat because we was moored in an inaccessible 24hour mooring. Fact of life here is that getting a tow back still needed time to happen and you can’t magic time and distance. The second time the service came out via van and got the engine started enough to get us back to our mooring. let’s be honest. Our engines are getting on a bit and things happen so the peace of mind and the many hundreds of pounds it would have cost to tow us back easily paid for itself. ranworthbreeze
We have used Boulter's recovery services now for about 3 or 4 years since Maffet's had to stop their dive insurance.
PaulN
We signed up with Boulters last month, as they have a good reputation for the whole of the broads, albeit we moor in the marina next door to them. Cost £130 plus we opted for the additional fouled prop cover for £40 both incl. VAT
MargeandParge
Hi All We are with Boulters and I have heard that Sonny once left a Christmas dinner to help a stranded boater. If you have ever seen Sonny Boulter you just know that this was a big ask. We have also had the pleasure of work being done by Sutton Staithe and Robert is as dedicated to service, so either company would be good and reassuring to us as a breakdown rescue. Not sure if Sutton Staithe cover prop foul but somebody will know. Kindest Regards Marge and Parge
Ray
Yes, you can add prop foul to the breakdown cover with Sutton Staithe Boatyard.
