They really are trying to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Even some of their own people now realise that, but it will surely fall on deaf ears

An interesting quote from the article:

"Not all members agreed, with some arguing that rangers could become more important, particularly with the increasing popularity of paddleboarding. "

A handful of rangers is not going to make the blindest bit of difference to boating, so why add more. And anyway, why should boaters pay for more rangers for paddleboarders ? If they are needed for that, then increase the tolls for paddleboarders !

It seems boat tolls (and new mooring charges) are funding more and more of the National Park agenda, and increased mission-creep, that is nothing to do with the navigation and boating.

At this rate, I will stay on the RGO and never make it to the Broads ...

Because paddle boarders fall beautifully in line with National Park thinking.  No need for dredging, or moorings!

And why should river tolls pay for Mutford Lock, which levies its own toll on those who use it?  It gives on to Lake Lothing which is part of the maritime port of Lowestoft.   Broads hire boats are not allowed through it and private boats are not insured to go though it, under the terms of a standard Broads insurance policy.  So why should Broads river tolls be used to maintain it?

It does beggar belief that they budget for inflation on the previous year rather than on the forecast rate.

One more way of keeping the empire growing.

They are not alone, my mooring fees will go up by 9% in March when inflation should be around 3.5 %.

So much for sustainable increases.

This year I decided not to toll / use the canoes. Next year it's the dinghy. Approaching the thin edge of the wedge

It is like tax and tax rates - it gets to the point that if you raise rates past a certain point, you actually end up collecting LESS tax than before, so it is self defeating.

But then most of those in 'authority' never quite grasp that point
