Hello, New Ad(venture) Begins.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

So saying "hello" again but with a new membership under the banner of our new enterprise "Langley River Centre". We have taken over the Paul Wright Boatyard and Buckenham Sailing Club, down in Langley on the river Yare. Previously we operated out of Clive Richardson's Yard in Horning, hiring out vintage wooden boats. We are looking forward to bringing life back into the boat yard and reviving the sailing club (getting kids onto the water and off their phones! :)) as well as providing a unique offering of vintage cruisers for special events. So we can't wait to get ourselves going full steam ahead in 2024. Ta ta for now, Adam & Katie.

Back again?

I have just been reminded, by PM, of the previous history behind this news.

I have wonderful childhood memories of the Beauchamp Arms in the days when it was owned by Wolff and Andrée Chater who were great friends of my parents and who, I believe, had come to Norfolk after being displaced from their homeland during WW 11.

Gilbert Wright was the local landowner and farmer and his son Paul started up the boatyard and became very well known as a builder of racing dinghies.  He was also the founder of the Buckenham Sailing Club, of which my parents were original members.

It is in this spirit that I wish all the best to a venture that may promote leisure boating on a very important cruising location on the south rivers.

It seems that the new owners did not make a success of their previous venture on the Broads.  Let us hope, all the same, that this new effort will be a benefit to all who cruise the south rivers and wish to see better facilities there.

The history you have on the location is great. We think it's very important to bring everyone involved in the history of the boat yard together to revive and take it forward, so it would be good to get input for sure. We are going to get a forum together as things progress, it is a very important place to take forward.

With regards to ventures, life throws hurdles, obstacles and challenges, including family matters that force decisions that you never planned for. The best folk are those that can adapt, react and roll with the punches, it builds character and it certainly thickens the skin. Beautifully restored vintage cruisers for hire really did rattle some cages and despite constant walls being thrown up, they were brought down and the icing on the cake was featuring on the most significant boating programme in the UK and carrying the flame for the Norfolk broads with pride and determination. A curve ball resulted in a move to France, exploration of the amazing french waterways, having new passengers enjoy our efforts and then the next chapter, a return to the broads. All of the above requires heart, soul, skill, bravery and passion. Something that is coming to the southern rivers at the Paul Wright boat yard.....watch this space and happy days. Carry on boating!

Well done for investing in the Broads. I wish you every success.

That's very kind, we've been investing time and energy into the norfolk broads since 2010! It is a total pleasure to continue to do so! Very, very excited about the next opportunity, no restrictions, well the BA will always be about LOL. But it's all good.

Best of luck and hope things go well for you.

Is Lady Christina still one of yours? Coincidentally, I was looking to see where she'd gone within the last few days.

Ditto to the other reply, appreciate the positivity. We have a lot to do, a lot give and a great opportunity to bring a great little boat yard back to life. Looking forward to the challenge! It is going to be fun.
