We do put on a good bit of pomp and ceremony

Recommended Posts

I will confess was never into this type of thing but it is a sight.

Impressive if you like horses as well.

I don't think the queen recognised me as she didn't wave. I think we must have been talking about Her on that other thread!

Still closest I will ever get to her. Less than 20ft away.

I've been very lucky and met her twice, spoke with her on both occasions - 1st time at Earls Court in 77 - I was part of the Royal Guard

2nd time at Holyrood house for a Royal Garden party around 93/94 and got to introduce MrsG to her

She is a very special Lady is her Maj imho

I have shaken hands and been introduced to Prince Charles (but to be honest he seemed more interested in the pretty girl next in line for introductions) I guess I just don't have the looks any more.

when she was young my wife sat down next to HRH the queen mum at some highland event in Scotland.

My brother in law has met them all at some time or other when he was PRO for the Scottish Office. He was standing next to her when she pressed the button to let the oil flow into the UK. He even has the official signed B&W photograph of ER ll and Prince Philip.

I am sure over the past 60 years or so, many of the folks in the UK will have met members of the Royal Family. I am sure she  :wave  to me in Ayr in 1953/54 when touring the country after her Coronation!

cheers Iain.

Oh come on there was me feeling special!!! :cry  :cry

Pictures not very good on the phone I'm afraid, but I enjoyed it and I am sure lots of tourists did and will hopefully spend lots of money while they are here as well.

I should have asked her to pop up to the Broads before they make it a national treasure like her Maj.

Princess Anne looking very Nelson like in her hat!

I have also met Andrew and Charles - Didn't like Andrew much at all,

Charles however - top bloke,  got to sit down with him for about an hour onboard HMS Explorer whilst alongside at HMS President in London.

There was just the five of us Ships Company and HRH Charles, (It was back in the day when Diana was still with us) in the messdeck for tea n sticky buns

Oh and got to wave off Charles and Diana onto the Royal Yacht in Gibraltar for the start of their honeymoon in 81

Rub it in Griff,

I'm fed up with you lot now - always one better (or 2 in Griffs case) :cry  :cry  :cry

It's nice to know so many of our brethren have made contact with the Royals though - to be honest I feel special now that I HAVENT spoken to them or been waved at!  :taunt:  :taunt:

Anyway, my next free tour is of Big Ben - no doubt someone will now post to tell me they built the damn thing :liar

I was also honour guard for the Queen in '77...although I was only 11 yrs old at the time and in the Boy Sprouts. I met Prince Philip when I had to escort Uncle Albert to the dedication of the National Destroyer Monument. I felt very out of place amongst all the veterans in their gongs and titfers. That was until some other berk escorting his Grandad turned up wearing a black gaberdine mac, sunglasses and a fedora. He looked like an extra from 'Allo 'Allo. Of course as the event was televised I just knew, it was destined...that the bloke in the spy outfit would be sat next to me! Philip was talking to everyone, just another veteran among many.

I've never met the queen.

I've never seen the queen.

I've never invited the queen to tea despite her being a near neighbour.

I find it difficult to trust people who wears gloves.

Sadly I also never saw Queen. Now this I do regret!
