  1. Our canopy stays in the Lazerette from November to when the weather picks up (Feb/March) and it up most of the winter except when we go out in the ship when it is taken down. By the time it is time to put it away in the spring it normally has algal growth. I like others lay it out and scrub with boat wash and a soft brush, let it dry and store it away. When I come to put it up in November time I use copius Fabsil which seems to work well. As far as stoping algal growth I was told by a yottie in our marina that he paints on a mould inhibitor first, never tried it so can't comment if it works or not.
  2. Good to hear you guys had a good evening. Gav you need to take your Christmas Sacks down off your ship after Christmas We had a good evening at Shotley, Harwich did their usual superb job with the midnight pyrotechnics and Phil was a revelation driving Carron's temporary mode of transport
  3. Yes Jim used to go past it every day in my days of R&D at Bowaters. Hope you have had a bit of a break.

Ah Strowy has beaten me to the point and saved me a Lakesailor I am not denigrating your business model MBA I am sure you do a great job. Where you sub contracting from JPC as a Webo agent or just working for them? You will know Tom then.
  5. MBM have been issuing their series ran earlier as downloadable guides. Attached is The Orwell and my old stomping ground The Swale, I have to say it looks much more inviting than I recall swale.pdf Orwell.pdf

I guess it is how well you survey prior to the work. I had two examples. JPC surveyed our boat and quoted for fitting a three outlet 3.5kv Webo. We agreed the price but on fitting they found the stringer they had planned on going through was just too thick so they came up with another solution. This solution took more time but they did not quibble on the original price. Their view was they should have seen this. The upshot is I would recommend JPC to anyone that asked as the workmanship and attitude was first class. Second example Goodchild quoted me for fitting a Raymarine Autohelm, quote accepted and actioned. Top class installation and when the bill arrived it was under the quite as the job had not taken as long as anticipated. I guess with both the above I had full confidence in the companies that were carrying out this work, I would certainly not trust our ship to anyone. The old adage relating to if it looks too cheap to be true it probably is I would suggest is what to keep in the forefront of you mind. I am never looking for a 'cheap job' I am looking for value which to me means competitively priced; top quality work, right first time. Check how qualified the person you are thinking of engaging to carry out the work is.

Strowy is right it is actually summer that is quieter for yards doing work certainly the other side of Mutford. Our Marina offers a 'summer' package where they discount lifts, anti foul etc from memory from 1st July. Trouble is all the yotties have already pre booked Charges by the hour are all well and good but someone charging £30 and hour takes two and a half times someone charging £45 per hour is £30 cheap?
  9. A good/bad scenario Ian. I am sure her new owners will be delighted with her she is a lovely craft (even if a yacht!) But of luck in finding a replacement ship.
  10. A very happy Christmas to all members. How I wish the weather was a bit better at this time of year to enable us to participate in boat parades. We saw another this year in Florida and they are great fun. In winter probably more suited to the Broads I reckon a great way to meet have a laugh and share a few 'winter warmers'
  11. Glad you made it OK and arrived safely.
  12. A real throw back as you say Gav complete with Carry On background music, but the company would be called something like 'Plainbroke' A bit risqué for 1972 at one point surely... what would the AA's say about that! Did everyone really go out for an evening in suits in 1972? Another one that would have AA's choking on their Fray Bentos - when giving tuition Roy says "not much more to it than driving a Vacuum Cleaner" Was that a guest appearance at 4.13 by a relation Gavin
  13. Sounds a bit of a 'test' OK Merlyn. Assume you are in a 'delivery' trip. DN are incredible boats
  14. If it is a waiver I will be sure to upset the local equivalents of the Broads AA's It is actually a deposit so no outrageous behaviour from me; I can't vouch for the other duty Skipper though
  15. Charter Jim. Clive - Don't you think it will fit under Potter
  16. From all I hear they are not modern by current standards but pretty bullet proof and slow revving. Some information in the following links which might be of some small help. http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index. ... opic=18349 http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210981
  17. Not everyone's cup of tea but fits the bill perfectly for what we are looking to do. Comfort in a rufty tufty shell. http://www.nordictugs.com/models/nt42_video.aspx
  18. I arrived at The Strand under the Orwell Bridge on Friday morning heading for Shotley with the road just passable; within 30 mins the road had been closed as it was impassable. Photo from another place http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296173
