  1. Oh, Lou............ how could you???
  2. What next? http://www.theengineer.co.uk/in-depth/t ... 53.article
  3. Quite why they keep asking us to retune I don't understand,, personally I haven't bothered and we still get all the channels we used to. The power increase comes on 11/11 and then I probably will (retune).
  4. Great story, Mark.. brings back many happy memories!
  5. Beautiful pics, RR! Can you really operate three rods at a time?
  6. Just to stop confusion. (as if there is any!), slack water at GH is NOT LW +1.00.... more like LW +1.30.. Thus if you want to arrive at Slack Water you need to arrive ONE and a HALF hours after LOW WATER.. So perhaps that's more likely to explain it to new-comers?
  7. Not as much as last year, Lori... we spent close to four months aboard then... And no, we won't give up while we can walk!
  8. I would leave Reedham 1 hour before slack water GH. (That's at LW GH which they give you at Reedham). That will put you at GH at about slack + 30mins, by when the Bure tide will be with you. You'll have to punch a bit of flood across Breydon but it's worth it to get the flood up the Bure.
  9. Steve.......... WHO??? Honest, I've not heard of any of them... but then we're out on the boat until November/early December...
  10. Martin, Hi. I absolutely agree! If we only had one week then it would be "hire North, stay North" or "hire South, stay "South"! No-way would I try to follow BB's itinerary.. I only posted that to try to alleviate worries about GH and Breydon.
  11. I entirely agree, Jill... Going up-river (From Gt Yarmouth) you will have RED markers on the LEFT and GREEN markers on the RIGHT. Coming down-river (To Gt Yarmouth from the Yare or Waveney) you will then have the REDS on the RIGHT and the GREENS on the LEFT. Simples!
  12. Hi, Chippy. Last time we were there (about three weeks ago) we saw 7'6"+ on the gauge on two separate days... no problems!
  13. Whoa, whoa, Dolphin! Not all Broads yards are prophets of doom! BarnesBrinkcraft at Wroxham suggest this as a one week cruise: http://www.barnesbrinkcraft.co.uk/7day/ They don't seem to have all these worries about their boats going through GH/across Breydon! And nor should you... hundreds of first-time hirers do it most weeks, especially if they're out for longer than a few days!

  15. Exactly, Andy.. but do they know any better and are they told? Can a new skipper even begin to understand tides? I doubt it...
  16. There you go again, Smelly... misinterpreting what was said.... She was merely commenting on "The King's" legendary status.."he had the X-factor"... or are you just winding up?
  17. I can only say that, having met Neil and Karen a few times this year, that they are one of the nicest couples you would want to invite to your home (which we did). So generous with their time and friendly too. I have always taken some of Neil's more thought-provoking statements with a pinch of the proverbial and am sorry that some see this in the way that they do. That having been said I ask Neil to reconsider his decision; the mods do have a job to do and I believe they do it fairly, consistently and considerately to all. This is the best forum we belong to and long may it continue to be.
  18. Yet another thing about the impending closure of Yarmouth Coastguard worries me. Will some coastguard based over a hundred miles away have a clue where "Wroxham Broad" is when/if they receive an emergency call?
  19. Just how can they justify that if another place (Goodchild at Burgh Castle) can make a reasonable profit when charging £1.05/Litre? Fill up at Boulters next door to LeBoats (was £1.10/Litre recently) before you take a boat back to them... perhaps then they'll see some sense...

  24. Thirdmate, Hi I only pray you aren't heard, nor read, by them............
