  1. Maybe I have been very lucky, but, so far, I have had no trouble whatsoever with Amazon. All items have been delivered promptly, some very quickly, and all well priced. As for EBooks, the Kindle ticks most of the boxes. My wife likes SBC products and although QVCUK sell them, Amazon sell them cheaper and much cheaper P&P too. Horses for courses as they say.
  2. If Mr Gove had his way there would be NO school holidays at all! I thought Alan (Freedom Holidays) remarks were very well put. Personally I cannot see the Status Quo changing soon. Iain.
  3. Good news that is, hopefully will use the facility in May.
  4. With regards to "Screwfix" they are part of the Kingfisher Group (B&Q) and yes some of their electrical parts are IMHO at best average. However on certain bulk buys they often beat Electrical Mainstream Wholesalers. I saved a considerable amount on Door Handles at Screwfix. Must say the China option is something I must look into soon. Iain.
  5. Smallworld John, I am Ayr born and bred and the old A&G pub was my drinking hole with all the lads from Miles Electricians, Beresford Terrace at pay off nights, as for the old Cally..I was called out to that hotel the day after the fire there early 70's. For my sins I wired the first ever sauna at that hotel, it came all in Finnish and had to get the instructions translated lol I do hope my fellow "Honest Men" looked after you well? Iain.
  6. I am sure I have seen that plane land at Prestwick? Iain.
  7. Pink Lady sounds an ideal name for the boat Iain.
  8. Congratulations Gracie another member of I believe its called the Empty Wallet/Purse club! Pink fenders OMG!! Only a woman wid put PINK fenders on a boat!
  9. In the unlikely event of a fouled prop...aye right...been unlucky twice...both times farmers rope round the prop. Sooo in the unlikely event, I always take out diving insurance just incase those naughty farmers throw more rope into the rivers!
  10. Its the possible falling off the stern that scared me. Also Pru crossing those locks without a LifeJacket I found scarey. I have however, set the Sky box to record the other three programmes. Iain.
  11. Never a problem taking boats through in days gone by, as I said on other forum that class of boat can be as low as 6ft7" with all bits down. Pacific Dawn an example. Oh for the days of Charlie Crowe he took you through with very little to spare. Think the yards have put pressure on the pilots and want good clearance now at all times.
  12. I know all about paying top prices as my wife was a teacher so always had to book high season prices three times a year. Now that we are retired we can come and go as we please and NOT at high rate prices either. I like that. So its 11 day break this time coming and hopefully another week in September.
  13. I was approached by 5 ladies who were moored along from me at Sommerleyton on a very windy day. I had been watching them trying - unsuccessfuly - to leave the mooring. The skipper cooeed me and asked me any idea how to get the boat off the quay.I jokingly said, aye if you buy me a pint at The Waveney in OB tonight lol Got them all back on board and proceeded to tell them what to do. The girls faces were a picture as they saw their boat move off the quay. I was given a big wave and blown kisses, who needs IBIZA! lol Oh yes and I did get that pint, but at The Commodore, those girls sure knew how to party ! Iain.

  15. 52 days till I am on Gleaming Light from Herbert Woods. Any dealings I have had so far have been first class. This is year 38 for me and 42 for the rest of the crew. Now all we need is lot of nice weather for all people boating, But, if you holiday in UK you just take the clothes for all weathers to be on the safe side!
  16. Its a lovely cruise up to Coltishall, Alan. Unless the tides are loopy the end of April, I should get up there to sample the grub.
  17. September 1990 was the time of the fire. I have found a pic online of the aftermath.
  18. Thank you for info, much appreciated. Oh BTW am the same as you with the Pub name at Ludham Iain.
  19. Hi Matt, I have good and bad days with my Arthritus. I have never been up to end of navigation in years. It was about 1980 my last venture up to there. Good idea though, thank you. Iain.
  20. Oh very true it will. The weather I have always been lucky with (Shouldn't have said that) over 40 years coming down. Sometimes been verging on the too warm! If I lived 300 miles nearer I would have bought my own boat years ago.
  21. You lot are making me very jelous!!! I have another 55 days to wait till I too will be going all these lovely places. Sadly not the Recruiting Sargent my old knees would complain its just a tad too far to walk. All those out this weekend have a nice relaxing break! Iain.
  22. Call me an old softie, but...YOU just being with her is ALL she should need for now. Or a nice soft cuddly teddy bear for the cabin. Hope she makes a speedy recovery Iain.
  23. 42 years happy cruising, hope for a few years more!

  24. I was involved in a model railway club for years, must be an Electrician thing so were four other members. I think the challenge of making it all automatic for certain sections is always interesting model work. I wish it well and hope to see it in May. Is it AA signposted in Wroxham/Hoveton?
