  1. Dear oh dear! You all want the easy life don't you! Ok, the reason for the rectifier. I want to be able to switch off all the batteries as per normal, which leaves the bilge pump on, and be able to leave the fridge on so we can leave stuff in it for a week or two without having the charger running. As there is always the risk of the charger boiling batteries when something goes wrong, it could be a very expensive way to go, and not unheard of, and £40/£70 seems a much cheaper way to go in that light. The charger is a Pro Mariner EX 25 by-the-way and only charges the leisure batteries, the Victron charges the Inverter and engine batteries and is on as soon as the shorepower is plugged in.
  2. Tecky question for the electricians out there. We have a Waeco CR65 which I fitted earlier this year and now wish to fit a 230v rectifier for shorepower. The question is, there are 2 available, a MPS35 and an EPS100 which appear, upon reading the spec sheets for each, will do the job. Waeco recommend the MPS35 which costs around £63 on Ebay. But also the spec sheet for the EPS100 also says it's suitable for the same job but only costs around £40 on Ebay. On our last boat, we had a Waeco CR110 which had the EPS100 fitted and seemed to work ok but again the spec sheet says fit the MPS35! Both use the same Danfoss compressor. So, can anyone enlighten me to the difference and which to fit please.
  3. Looking on Craigs site, she was/is called 'Moonraker' T711 I thought she was a lovely style of boat from her era. There appears to be no shorepower connected in the photo's so I wonder if the bilge pump just flattend the battery(ies) and with a well leaking stern gland she went slowly down. Once past the skin fittings, it would'nt have taken very long to finish her off. She does appear to be laying on the bottom there so should be a 'relatively easy' job at low tide to re-float her, but needs doing soon or she's going to need some major work. Another project for you Gary...
  4. If you look at my photo in the banner when it shows the Beauchamp, you will see her as she was 3yrs ago. I'm surprised someone does'nt get the pumps going as it does'nt appear to need the work we put in with 'Caravelle'. A couple of good pumps would do the job fairly quickly. Edited to add that she used to be moored where 'Caravelle' is now.
  5. Here is one taken 2yrs ago at the Beauchamp. Logo could go on the lefthand side?
  6. In '66, a pilot took our hire craft, 'Fiesta' through for us and he too approached the bridge at speed. After getting the bow under the first part of the arch, he shut the throttle quickly to idle and the bow 'sat down' in the water. As the aft cabin, complete with the cockpit roof lying on it, came close to the same point, he opened it up to full throttle and the stern now 'sat down' in the water as the bow came up and we cleared the bridge with ease! I have yet to see anyone do it since .....or me try it either
  7. We were moored at Oulton Dyke on Wednesday and, looking out the window, there's Griff and Co cruising by on their way to Acle for the night (Spoke to him on the phone as he went by). He told me about the voyage home and said that he would'nt put BA through that ever again! Even Breydon could'nt throw anything at them to even give them any concern whatsoever!! They deserve the greatest respect for what they achieved.
  8. Dan, thats what I thought. It was the first boat Jenny had been on, although Iv'e been coming since the 60's, and when she got on, she said this isn't a boat, it's a wardrobe!
  9. I have started adding Marine 16 Diesel Bug Treatment each time I add fuel to the tank. Typically around 70ltrs. A 100ml bottle will treat 1000lts of diesel and costs around £8. As yet, I have seen no evidence of the bug in the system even before I started adding the treatment but thought it better to be safe than sorry. At £8, that will last me for the season or there-abouts and seems like value for money to me. Available from French Marine at Rackheath Ind Estate.
  10. OOOHHHHH.... That day is the start of the Thurne Mouth Open Regatta! It's on for 5 days this year too...... My advice is to stay in the yard overnight and get underway real early on Saturday morning, say 07.00. You should then get by before they all get out littering the rivers.. I mean wake up... You'll need to clear Acle if going that way or St Bennets Abbey if going the other by around 09.00 to be reasonably sure of a clear-ish run.
  11. Here's Little Gem when we hired her in 2005 Looks better now.
  12. Setfair. I have one of those Satelite in a suitcase jobs from Maplin for sale if you want one. Only used it once due to the boat movement but a friend in our marina sets his up on a tripod and uses it all the time. If your'e interested, PM me.
  13. I would suggest looking into this with some urgency! If a Ranger spots this on the river somewhere and the ID plate is missing, you could find yourself being under investigation for theft. Proving you own the motor fair and square and that the person you bought it from had'nt stolen it could be the start of a long process if you can't. And, if it was stolen, you could end up loosing the motor and any money you paid for it. Drive over there and get proof and a receipt PDQ. Just my humble opinion of course.
  14. If Boulters can sell at 1.15pl so can the bigger yards!
  15. Yes. ME!! Thats why I was asking the question.
  16. Thanks everyone. Paladin gave me the link to just what I needed and it does seem to show that the pump is part of the unit.
  17. Can anyone answer the question as to whether the D4 Hydronic has it's own built in water pump to push the heated water around the system? I can't seem to find a diagram showing the unit split into it's component parts which would be a clue. Anyone? Thanks.
  18. As it appears that the ropes were cut, had the boat not had outdrive legs, the ropes may not have reached the prop Edited to add that I have just noticed that you can see Liberty in my avatar over the top of our boat.
  19. First, Those yobs if caught and found to be 'of sound mind', should face a long jail sentance! Secondly, Liberty used to moor alongside us and I have to say that she is not worth £3000 a week of anyone's money. Many times she was returned in a rather sad state of repair including a smashed drive leg done on the rocks at St Bennets which took weeks to get the parts and get her back on hire. How long before she gets back to 'full health' this time? CHARGE THE YOBS FOR THE FULL COST WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT : (Won't happen though...)
  20. I too am sorry to hear this. Last year he 'left' of his own accord but eventually came back. Some of his comments have been a little controversial but always generated a good debate, as has been said. I'm sure it was felt he maybe overstepped the mark but it is up to the admins to decide where that boundary is. Iv'e no idea what the subject was about, so can't comment other than what I said at the beginning. Bill
  21. Hi M. I believe from memory that the signs warn that the walkways are not in very good condition but not sure how they are worded. They did'nt look like somewhere I would want to try and tie up!
  22. If you need any, they supply 3 sets for £5.
  23. John, I heard that Boulters fuel was now £1.15p pl. as of 2 weeks ago. When I last topped up 4 weeks ago it was £1.10p. Expect it to rise with their next tanker delivery though
