  1. Having just watched that Utube clip it reminds me of just how busy it was in the 60s/70s! Yarmouth was at times rafting up 3 deep which was interesting if you wanted to get away before the boat on your outside did'nt!! I remember the toilets emptying direct into the rivers too. My uncle once commented looking over the side at Yarmouth "Ok Brown, you're through"... It had to be explained to me what he meant! It also reminded me of how many casual moorings there were which have long since gone. Seeing the boat going through Potter bridge brought back memories of taking 6 berth cruises myself with ease. Carol, just watched your Broadland Memories 1930's DVD. Loved it! And No, I was'nt about then before someone comments!
  2. I would hope he killed it first before plucking it PS I can't get the Christmas smilies to paste either!
  3. Just a thought (I have them sometimes!), maybe they'll re-brand the two into one bussiness? NOT Hoakes......
  4. I see that Barnes have put one of the topliners up for sale!;- http://www.norfolkboatsales.co.uk/boat/used/73/ £29,950 Maybe trying to put some coffers back in the bank to help with the purchace of that fleet? Will be interesting to see how the sale goes.
  5. Lori, the 4 new boats for 2012 are the Quartet's. You can see one on 'Marina 4' behind the tree in mid picture on their webcam in partial build mode. As for room, They are selling off several of their older boats if you look on Norfolk Boat Sales and I believe all the ex Moores craft are destined to go too. Neil. Sorry if I read your post the wrong way, but lots of people have a go at Barnes about their bums-on-boats but I know for a fact that lots of people want just that, crowding everyone on to as small a boat as they can get away with to save on hire fees. It is only for a week after all is said and done. (Usually) It saves having to hire 2 boats or a larger one, which makes finding a mooring for the night easier, especially a side-on mooring. In fact a VERY good friend of mine is hiring in just that way from Ferry Marina in June 2012. The same can be said of pretty much every yard on the broads! It saves the punter money per person!
  6. Neil.......... Just do it Then you can be permanently broke like the rest of us!
  7. We went down to Wroxham yesterday to do a few jobs and did put the aerial up and downloaded all the channels ok. This bit of our moorings has always been very poor but got everthing ok no problem! Thumbs up from us!! Going to try the Status omni next time we are down.
  8. Many people are quick to slag Barnes off but they work damn hard, and that includes Matthew, who never asks anyone to do something he can't, or won't, do himself. We moor with them and can honestly say that we have no issues with anyone from the yard at all. We see the day-to-day running of the yard and talk with the staff regularly so know how things are going. There are big changes to take place soon as will become apparent when they start, and they are investing a large amount of money in the business in the coming months. I'm not going to divulge what, as it would'nt be right, you'll have to wait and see. And as to "Bums in boats", isn't that what it's about? But I doubt they'll convert them to 6 berth as they hired well enough as they are so why would they change it? If they do, then by all means comment on it, but not before. Sorry Neil, but had to be said. Good to see you posting regularly again by the way!
  9. Have been down today and can confirm that they have bought 3 of them! They are also busy building 4 new boats for next season, one of which you could see on the webcam yesterday double moored near a fuel pump.
  10. Hi Jonno. Lovely films. Where did you get the music from? So relaxing.
  11. Thanks for the replys. May seek to get it done by a specialist company. I do have grandfather rights on this though and can drive 7.5 ton trucks too. Also we do have a good 4x4 to do the the job but sound like we might get someone to do it for us. . Bill
  12. Can anyone give me an idea what an Elysian 27 with inboard diesel is likely to weigh? Also, does anyone have a trailer capable of transporting one from the broads to Peterborough. Either to lend us or to hire to us. Thanks. Bill.
  13. Butlertechnic want £119.95. Think I'll stay with Parkinsons, besides I know them so if any problems show up then I can pop over to see them. Thanks anyway.
  14. Have been quoted £113 inc drat from Parkinsons(Peterborough) who I used to deal with when I was working(Now retired early), and they are Eber dealers. We are down this coming weekend so will look for the serial no. I have the original paperwork from the fitout but no-one marked down the no.! According to the Eber website, it needs a 701.10.005 but no mention of serial no's. Bill.
  15. Thanks for that. Yes it's a D3LC Airtronic. I did check to make sure it was the right controller for my heater that's why I asked about just plugging it in.
  16. Has anyone fitted a 7day timer to their Eberspacher heater? Ours is fitted with the standard on/off/vent switch with the rotary dial, but would like to fit a timer so that it will come on and warm the boat before I have to get up and make a cuppa for Jen and myself. Can be a bit nippy this time of the year..... What I want to know is it simply unplug the old one and plug in the new or is it more complicated than that?
  17. This may seem a strange question...But... we will be needing new ropes on our fenders as the ones fitted are in dire need of some TLC but it seems a good idea to get new ones instead. So, the question is... what size and what material is the best for the job? I bought nylon for the ones on Avalon but found them difficult to tie and they then wanted to keep coming undone! So something different this time? What do you think?
  18. Not forgetting that if you have a bowthruster, YOU DON'T WANT WATER IN THERE! A friend of ours had problems with their bilge pump and the bowthruster got drowned in water and needed a new one as too much damage was done to repair it.
  19. Sorry Clive, pressed the wrong key and never checked it after Yep, it was V947 Little Gem 2.
  20. Clive, it was V945, Little Gem 2 in 2005. Fond memories.
  21. Clive, is Little Gem 2 going? Not that we want her but it was our first outing as a couple on the Broads together! Look where it got us now... Oh memories....
  22. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I was led to believe that Le Boat still own the marina based at Somerleyton. Where the private boats that are moored there are to go is the question! Good move by them though!
  23. We saw a seal at Stokesby in May on our way south, and then another near the Beauchamp Arms 3 days later. The Stokesby one looked like a dog in the river until we got close!
