  1. The difference is that The White Horse has a resident client base to sustain trade.
  2. Only 8/10. I got Upton wrong, and Cockshoot, that one still has me foxed, it doesn't look like any bit of Cockshoot, I have been to???
  3. Likewise gas, only a few Corgi registered fitters are also insured to carry out marine work.
  4. Well as a non-coke drinker, it was a small bottle from the garage, soak overnight, rinse, buff with wire wool. Suited the job.
  5. Ok Griff, no I haven't done the portholes!
  6. The lock has had a Coca Cola clean up and is across the road for specialist help. It looks as though at least one return spring is missing. Here are the other bits. I honestly thought the ring handle was bronze before coke and wire wool.
  7. With that much land, maybe glamping would be a thought, pub as restaurant and reception, old caravans etc cleared off site. Day boat type ferry as water taxi and a high end finish and costing for guests?
  8. Given the presence of Lathams, I'd guess they would not look at a grocery store there.
  9. Sincere condolences Eric.
  10. Vision and a bulldozer!
  11. I spliced a soft eye in one end of my mooring lines and attached a carabiner clip. These are not for high tidal variations, I have plain ones for that, but work a treat on the northern rivers, clip to boat - line to shore; being sailies the lines are stowed when we are under way so this is quick and easy. On the mooring I have made lines 'to length' and attached to the quay heading, with clips at the boat end, so tying up is fast and mooring lines stay clean for out and about.
  12. Anagrams don't annoy me.....they bewilder me!
  13. Amazing! I got 7/7 on that! Like Poppy, I made the assumption on Q1

Agreed, they are generally very effective and were extremely helpful over my flipping cooker.
  15. Hope you get a berth Robin, we aren't doing the race this year.
  16. Honestly Steve! Have a great holiday you two to make the trip worthwhile .
  17. I think the penknife thing beggars belief, just incredible. Like Gracie, I would hover past maybe but stepping aboard? No, never.
  18. Brilliant was moored below Ludham Bridge one Bank Holiday and was hit 4 times according to Warp. That was very likely stern swinging as the helms tried to wait for the bridge. I imagine he had as many fenders out as we do when moored there, loads!
  19. Brilliant attracts attention, she is part of Broads history. People ask about her and, like Griff, I am happy to show them around. Lots of people remember her from days gone by and that just underlines our role as custodians, responsible for handing her down in future. For example, I was asked last week why we had changed the jib.... Now that was clearly an informed question. No we aren't 'bothered' much because we are very likely to mudweight out as much as be on busy moorings, also I think some people are more wary of sailing boats.
  20. Oh easy, that's the comforter knot, deriving from the Victorian word for scarf or muffler. You only had to ask......
  21. Yep so do I, with other bits of tying up string I say 'mooring line' or specifically 'a spring' if that's what it is doing at the time. I was a weaver before I was a saily so 'warp' is on a loom to me....or Dave's forum name of course.
  22. Mad as boxes of frogs.... Sigh
  23. Ere oo are you calling norty?
  24. Ok will do. No giving Brilliant a break this year.
  25. There is bungee sewn into top and bottom edges, do you want me to leave it in?
