  1. As a kid I was always horribly car sick, and still dislike travelling in the back seat. I was telling Doug we took 90 kids on the ferry from Dieppe on a rough crossing. There were two of us still on our feet at the end of that. We spent most of the time getting the kids to lie down to ease the sickness, and avoiding the heads ourselves which were awash, yuk! My friend Margaret really did go green. I am ok if I can see forward or backward, but as Doug said, starting before dawn meant he couldn't see where the waves were coming from or the horizon.

  3. How do you want to play this Martin? Last time people mudweighted on Malthouse then dropped in behind us as we set off at 12.30. I let Broads Control know what we were up to. You can pick your time for arrival at Salhouse.
  4. So further to the above: Please bring any of the following that you wish. 1. Small cakes to share for afternoon tea 2 A contribution to a shared bar just as at a ordinary party. 3. A bottle for a bottle stall, anything not won may be reclaimed by the donor on Sunday morning . Party theme? Royal wedding that day, so come in red white and blue or even a wedding dress!
  5. If you are new to the Forum you may wish to know these basics about the Spring Gathering: You pay your mooring fee as usual when the ranger comes to collect. Come when you like, but you may wish to start at Malthouse Broad and join the cruise in company from there to Salhouse on Saturday. I am sorting stuff for Saturday afternoon onwards, if you come earlier you may be enlisted to help set up ! If you want to change your days, that’s no problem, I will finalise the bookings nearer the time. Leave when you want to. We will be packed up by mid Sunday afternoon, but Salhouse is a public mooring so stay as you wish. Bring a BBQ and whatever food you need yourself, we usually pool the drinks so a shared bar contribution would be appreciated. We do afternoon tea on Saturday so bring some small cakes if you want to donate, but no pressure. There may be a few lighthearted competitions/ themes so watch the thread for those.
  6. Argh! I always hate it when stuff comes out and you see the extent of the problem ahead!
  7. We once stood on a Corribbee. The salesman told us it was a very stable boat. “It is while you are standing g on the jetty holding the mast” I replied
  8. So sorry to read of your sadness. I hope you find what will help. If you get a Corribee, I trust that you like trampolining, they are the bounciest boats I have ever been on. When we get Brilliant back afloat, I hope you will join us for a sail.
  9. An answer and a question: An answer: woodies get painted a. because over years the replacement planks can produce a patchy appearance , and b, varnish needs more coats and care really. I wanted to take Brilliant back to wood as she originally was, but was firmly counselled against it! My question, Socrates, would Danbolin not be a one coat bilge solution?
  10. I am sure so! And rightly so.
  11. Just caught up with this thread, Socrates, most enjoyable.
  12. My theory is that the ranger wanted to have a look at Indy and collecting tolls was a really good excuse. When Phill got one of the first Citoren XMs we were stopped three times by police in the first month, no telling off even, just a chat with one whilst the other was looking at the unique suspension! Lol
  13. Well after all that water Neptune chucked at you, working in a shower room should be really appropriate.

  15. Training is a useful word there Jay. Griff and Howard add combat at sea type training to their obvious personal qualities, training can give you that bit of distance from your feelings which can really pay off. That's not to say that you don't feel things after the event, but just that you go into coping mode at the time.
  16. Hats Off!!! Well done Griff. Honestly, yesterday would have scared the living day lights out of me so no worries Robin, it was no place for a novice sea goer.
  17. Including Brilliant, I hope, we are up to 20 boats signed in so far. I have 30 places reserved at the moment, so signing up sooner rather than later makes sense.
