  1. Thank you, exactly..the photo they have used has been deliberately chosen for dramatic impact. Everyone is safe I've no doubt it was a bit scary for those concerned. The boat will be recovered checked and put back to work. In a few weeks time no doubt we will re visit this topic as the next boat runs aground. Richardsons keep a tow boat at acle for a reason 😉
  2. To much is made of crossing Breydon. Like anything treat it with respect and use your common sense and it's not a problem. Back in the 80/90 we've made crossing in all sorts of weather, it's been a bit fly by your pants at times but nothing to scarey. I also don't remember them closing it to hire traffic back then, I may be wrong on that tho. Boats running aground on the mud are as common an event as boats bumping into each other at Ludham bridge. Everyone is safe the boat will be recovered and its no big drama.
  3. Hardly, I've hired that boat and drifted a fair bit whilst mudweighting on Ranworth broad. Wouldn't of thought a mudweight would be much use on breydon overnight. Bit of a harsh comment...
  4. After two very hard years, were sufficient finances in place to allow the management to completed a full winter maintenance programme. Although we are now starting to come out the overside of the pandemic a successful season is far from assured. This may have impacted winter spending,Its easy to blame the manager or his Staff but we don't know what kind of financial constraints he has to work to. One thing is for sure this boats presentation is not acceptable, DAVIDH posted some pictures of herbert woods yard in his last holiday tale, there's one of an old cc c45 with all rust streaks down its Hull and generally look tatty, I can assure you that went out on hire a few days later.
  5. I done our online shop at home this week and have noticed for the 1st time that even the supermarkets are employing a kind of live pricing policy with it's delivery charges. Jeez where does this all end..we are now staying in Norwich the night before our trip to meet up with some family. So it will be tesco in Norwich before we head over to collect the boat.

    Acle Moorings

I had thought of that, I'm a light sleeper as well. The stracey Arms would probably be the better option. Gets a bit noisy with lorries trundling over that bridge.
  7. Not sure how old that pic is of prelude, but I'd of expected the build to be far more advanced than it is. She's been in the shed for some time now and Barnes don't normally hang about building there boats. Guess other work has had to come 1st. I've been abroad one of there tempos are they are fitted out to a very high standard and as you would expect with a Barnes new build they are crammed full of technology. The couple who were holidaying on her had only one grip. Shock horror surprise !! Electricity!! Most nights they had to fire up the engine as the oven set up just drain all the power. She was number 5 in the class and was only a few months old, they alway hired Barnes newest boats. So it wasn't a battery issue just a lack of anywhere to plug into. Herbert woods have the 2nd set of this new revamped mould be interesting to see what they do with it.

    Acle Moorings

We start our holiday on the 20th, we are starting from bridgecraft Acle. My thoughts exactly on stokesby, so I'm going to stay put at the yard for the 1st night. I want to catch the early morning tide down to Yarmouth. The owner has asked us to vacate the yard early as they have a full turnaround day on the sat and limited space. If we get onboard early enough I may chance a quick run down to stokesby to see if I can get in. Saying that, the price of fuel may stop me from doing that lol...
  9. Damage waiver is low as well. I've just paid 65 pound waiver for golden bridge for a week.
  10. Shocking and I bet that was a fair few quid/euro to hire. How do these ppl think that's OK??
  11. And as if by magic lol. How weird, I don't remember my phone updating. Sorted now feel free to delete this thread.
  12. Nice boat Neil, plenty to keep you busy. As one door closes another opens as they say. Best of luck and look forward to Rose's progress.
  13. Apologies if this question has already been asked, but has the forum had an update or been re configured?? I'm logging on in exactly the same way as I always have. I'm seeing threads from years ago and it all seems a bit muddled. Thanks
  14. Free use of a bike ?? 3k a week and they throw in a couple of old bickertons lol...
  15. They seem confident, there is going to be at least another one with number about to go into build.
  16. According to James Knight the next one's being named fair marmite. I had a look onboard fair crusader last year and to be honest it's a fantastic boat. I can see this boat being very popular with younger couples just wondering if the timing is right with everything that going on in the world. Personally I wouldn't hire it ut fair play to len for continuing to invest. I bet that's cost a huge chunk of change to build.
  17. Tbf it's no longer or higher then dazzling light, we had no problems mooring. Even got tucked up in the corner at gayes. That said we couldn't of if she wasn't fitted with thrusters. The slightest breeze does catch you.
  18. It sure is...that's a lot of boat for 4 !!
  19. Thanks, I've had a better look on Google earth and I noticed there is a couple of what looks like moorings spots outside the buildings at rowan craft just before the end of the dyke on the right as you approach. Walking from the locks isn't an option at the moment unfortunately as I'm still suffering with some breathlessness after my bout of covid. We are only on a smallish boat and it looks like there's ample space to spin around if full. Il give it ago and if not il head to the locks. Thanks
  20. Them C40 and 45 are incredibly popular still. They do need some investment put into them tho, they are looking a bit tatty now. There was one in there the other week that looked very smart. It had clearly been totally re painted top and bottom, the decks had been painted dark blue. I thought woods had started to refurb them, then realised it was privately owned. They need gutting internally and brought upto date. Plenty of life left in them weather it would be worth the investment is another thing.
  21. Looking for some advise on where to moor to visit the wherry. Some friends of ours visited last year ( not by boat ) and we've heard great thinks about the pub etc. I've never been up that part of the waveny and wouldn't have a clue where to moor. I have looked at Google earth but can't seem to see any public moorings just what looks like a marina and the old rowan craft yard. Any help much appreciated.
  22. Just seen pictures of fair regal, jezz that looks huge lol.. I'm not a fan of a lot of what len has had built, but it does look very impressive.
  23. Looks like it...do they have a name for the design, heritage something or other ??
  24. Well woods have a brand new set of moulds sitting outside there build shed. Looks like another one of the big alpha dual steer design. Guess that's there new boat then.
  25. Walk around any hire yard the 1st week of November and your see plenty of evidence of knocks bumps and nudges. Thankfully crashes are few and far between. The worse one I remember was clives boat bolero that had any argument with the quay heading at Yarmouth ouch !! But a bit of filler and gel coat sorted that out 😉 boats bumping into each other is just part and parcel of a busy day on the norfolk broads.pot hole rescue team on Romney marshes lol...bit like the parachute display team they have on the moon no doubt.
