  1. Hey All, In 9 days time we will be moored down south (hopefully!) and because I want to be gentle on the boat (and to help my poor wallet) I want to make best use of the tides which I admit navigating down there I haven't really paid much attention so here goes.. I saw a few months back, someone boosted they was able to navigate from Beccles to Brundall going with the tides and it's got me thinking because both rivers pass out to Yarmouth it's actually no easy task so how do we actually do this ?? I guess.. If we go from beccles to brundall we should aim to hit st olaves at about slack tide at st olaves (not yarmouth), If coming back we should aim to hit Reedham at Slack water at Reedham (These slack waters then ensure we get down the new cut with no current.. So for example then: Saturday 12th April.. going from Beccles to Brundall Using these resources (http://www.norfolk-broads.org/tides/tide_report.asp - I like the graphical representation!!) & http://www.mynorfolkbroadsboating.co.uk/norfolk_broads_distance_chart.html Slack I guess at St Olaves is 11:28 (An hour after 10:28). It's 2.45 hours from Beccles so we need to leave at 8:45.. we will get the tide taking us downstream. It's 45 mins up the new cut to reedham so by the time we hit Reedham the tide should be there to we should then hopefully ride the incoming tide to take us up to Brundall.. Coming Back Monday 14th April.. (ignore the night bit for now!) Slack at reedham is at 15.09 (An hour after 14:09) it's two hours to Reedham from Brundall so we need to leave at 13:09 to take the tide down to Reedham.. The rest of the way is easy as the tide will be coming in when we reach St Olaves. Have I got this right?? I think my main question is, is slack water an hour later at both Reedham and St Olaves? or should we aim for low water at these?
  2. Thanks for sharing Steve, I really enjoyed reading! it sounds like you had an enjoyable break despite the pesky weather! Looking forward to your time in august!
  3. Hi Jane, That's not weird lol...Weird is spending 15 months refitting a boat to bring to norfolk whist the other boat needs plenty of time spent on it! The broads as you explained is an escape from day to day life no matter were you live! good luck with the live-aboard dreams, it really is amazing (in the summer!) and after only 3 years I can't see myself returning to land anytime soon. (Grace did I kinda explain it there finally lol!)
  4. Geoff (And other potential newbies), from the pictures it looks like the boat went the wrong side of the clearly marked channel, it's hard to do if you are paying full attention so please don't be put of coming south by this, The southern side really does need the visitors and it is an amazing relaxing place... Just keep to the clearly marked channel and you will be fine
  5. I can't quite picture where this is, Is this near the NYA sales office on the top of that road? We was only there the other week and didn't notice it but it does sound like a good addition to the area and would be a good stop like David said when waiting to pickup a boat and a luncthtime alternative to the pub. I'll certainly visit when I can work out where it is!!
  6. That's good news Will you guys just take it out give it a check over then back into service for next week?
  7. oh geez not another. once again fingers crossed it can be recovered shortly and no harm done..
  8. I guess its a good point that even a hirer can stop for a pump out, I would guess there's a good profit to be made on a pump out too
  9. Have a look here for canopy fittings.. https://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?316-STAINLESS-STEEL-TUBE---TUBE-FITTINGS--BOAT-HANDRAILS&l=0000000031- Looking good keep the updates coming!
  10. That is good news I'll try and stop off and make use of their services this year even if it's just a pump out or a drop of fuel.
  11. HI Monica, Whats the exact message you are seeing?
  12. Just to further add Mandy, The pub is within crawling distance of the mooring (If you get tired obviously) and it's a very very good pub. The access from the river is very narrow though so take care if you have limited visibility but it's well worth trying. enjoy
  13. (I'll have a look later Iain.. Sounds like we could do with one lol)...
  14. It's good to have you aboard too Viking23.. That like button is certainly brilliant.. I do admit I probably overuse it but it's always called for As David said the Burgee's are very very good quality! I must admit when I got mine last easter I only saw on a couple of boats so it will be good to spot more of them this year! Thanks for grabbing one (I feel a bit guilty the way I went about that post but it was aimed in good good spirits )
  15. Grace not for one moment did I believe the others... but now.. how many pairs is that?? geez now we why Clive really is having to expand he will soon have to start thinking of walk in wardrobes with a huge shoe area... As for us (as you've seen) its cold/raining we wear trainers.. if its not we don't lol

    Easter Week

is this why they have started making bigger and bigger hire boats? to allow the female crew to carry on large amounts of shoe luggage?
  17. and from me to! I'm right handed although I always get confused which hand to put my knife and folk in.. not sure that makes me clever though?!
  18. (get your NBN burgees here: )%C2%A0
  19. Hows this for a before and after: (I may dig some more out over the next week or so if anyone's interested?!)
  20. Many Thanks Eric, I may be half asleep at the helm though so maybe use the horn instead of cutting the bow lol when we catch up certainly up for a few drinks lol.. Iain.. I dont think you should let the wife helm for everyones benefit lol!!
  21. It's ok guys, we still have a few more jobs left to do and we still have next weekend so it's not over yet.. although it pretty much is! Today lots of little jobs.. boot load of rubbish to the tip which took hours as most of medway towns had the same idea. Dave put some vents in the engine bay (we had kinda forgotten them!), he also; fitted the anode to the sterndrive (our surveyor who happens to be a member agreed that it doesn't look enough considering it was supplied by the supplier of the leg so I've just ordered a second one), he also painted wheelhouse floor.. it will need another coat due to the pesky blue primer (whoops!). I cut the mooring lines into three bits using the blow torch knife thing, blew the fendoffs up and put a bowline in each of the fender warps. We also fixed put in the two missing canopy fittings and installed two fender cleats to take two fenders on the swimdeck and that was about it. I wanted it finished today and to be honest it pretty much is, we still need to make up the last couple of cushions, varnish the oak name plaques and screw them up, install the boat toll plaques (when they arrive!), final coat of paint on the wheelhouse floor and install the other anode (when it arrives) but these can be done in the week and next weekend.. So there will be an update next weekend!!!
