  1. I ordered a part for my van via Fleebay, the seller sent a tracking number from Yodel. Collected from the seller 01-12-14 ok. In distrubution centre 02/12/14 ok. On deleivery van 03/12/14 ok Not delivered by 10/12/14, It was lost on the van between collecting and doing his round. Now got the hassle of getting a refund (takes a while on paypal) finding another part and waiting again for it to be delivered. Yodel really needs to improve its act. Doug.
  2. Is there not such a thing at Potter, I believe it services the riverside property's so the concept is already out there. Doug.
  3. You have Tim, it's call Royal Tudor Doug.
  4. Been a busy weekend, managed to get most of the port side floor replanted. Just the chine plank to fit which along with the next one inboard will run from the front of the boat to the stern. The existing planks from the engine bay back are not too bad but the edges are a bit soft and the sikaflex just won't stick so replace it is. One the chine plank is fitted I can fit the new chine rail at the forward end and trim up the planks to suit. Doug.
  5. If you around Wayford today please be nice to Jon, it's his birthday today and he's depressed about getting his pension. Hopefully he will give himself an early finish as I feel the pub may be calling. Happy birthday Jon. Doug.
  6. I saw Jon on Monday and he was still tearing around at a 100mph, proberly just got a chill from paddling around in all that water. Doug.
  7. Well wellyou kept that very quiet Geoff . Hele and myself are over the moon for you, you have got a fantastic boat that's fully sorted. Does this mean you now have three boats ?? Doug.
  8. Hi Tim, No it's the angle the photo is taken from the gap is less than 2mm but will have calking cotton and sikaflex so hopefully it won't leak. The half decker will hopefully return but it could take a couple of years as it depends on what courses they run. I do have plans for a 9ft tender to carry on with should I run out of things to do Doug.
  9. I was hoping to crack on with the starboard engine bearer, but my supplier didn't have any thing long enough so it was on to plan B.. The the bottom of the hull on the port side was all a bit of a mess so I set about sorting it out. The first two planks are ok so just the next seven to replace. The third one went in ok as the forward end was ok so a scarf was cut around 8 feet from the front. The next one has the most shape, starting off at just over 5" wide at the aft end and 7" at the front it starts of vertical and ends up horizontal. This plank had to have two gtoes in the steam box the first to get some basic shape the second to get the final fit and at nearly 4m long it was quite a job. The 5th plank has a fair bit of shape but went in with only one go in the steam box. The rest are quite straight forward as they are nearly parallel. Work has also been progressing on the engine. I came across a problem with the raw water pump drive but Jon at Wayford managed to sort it out. Spent today transferring my half decker to another trailer in preparation for its trip down to Oulton Broad. I have admitted defeat and it's going to the international boat building centre as a project for the trainees, it's not like I dont have enough to do !!!. Also managed to progress the work on another classic woody, but cannot say too much as the owner doesn't know
  10. Hi Agusta, It's not Captain 12 is it ? She was on our yard for a while and is a very nice boat, where is the rot in yours. The chine rail seems to be a weak spot. Doug.
  11. Neil, Yes mine came with one fitted as standard, you can also get one with a twin coil so can be heated from the engine and an auxiliary heater eg webasto etc. Doug.
  12. Forgot to say it's around 3700hp !!! Doug.
  13. The loco's use AC traction motors so no direct link between the wheels and the engine. The gearstick is a very small switch on the drivers desk. Doug.
  14. What's the point of electric propulsion if the generator uses more fuel than a normal diesel powered boat. We run diesel electric locomotives, it has a 16 cylinder cat engine with 4 Turbo's just to power the generator and uses around 4000 ltrs a day. The technology is still a long way off being perfect. Doug.
  15. "25th July for a week- £2,339 plus £40 damage waiver and a £200 fuel deposit. But........ You do get £10 off if you book online." If its all electric why do you need a £200 fuel deposit, thats far more than most diesel boats charge. Doug.
  16. Well, progress has been a bit slow lately. With attending the forum meeting and doing some diy I have not been down to the boat for 3 weeks. I have however been busy with the plastic, the new water tanks have arrived and I am very pleased with them so much so I have decided to change the fuel tank as well. The water and fuel tank will also be fitted with a level indicator as the extra cost was minimal. I have also bought a calorifier, 65 litres which is slightly bigger the the old one but fitted the space better than the 55 litre one, also bought a new water pump so all the water system will be replaced ( SWMBO instructions). Also two new bildge pumps, one for forward and one aft. I have been busy today steaming a new plank for the port chine area, as its 200mm by 30mm it was to stiff to bend round on its own. I have clamped it to the plank above until it cools and then it will be cut to shape. Once this is in place I can then fit the chine rail on the inside. Doug
  17. Don't ever repair the bottom of a wooden boat with pine from B and Q ( other outlets are available) and bathroom sealant, it just doesn't work. If you want to see the results come and see me, I should know. Doug.
  18. Really looking good now Barry, when do you move to the wet shed. Doug.
  19. Tim, are you sure that uncle Albert hasn't been putting something in your baccy tin.
  20. Not many public toilets allow you to empty a chemical toilet down the pan, the blue is suppose to upset the water treatment process. I use to take ours home and flush down the loo but it can stain the bowl. Doug.
  21. The father of a lad in my class at school was an official catcher, never saw one but as I'm not keen on rats I don't mind. Doug.
  22. I once got into a tacking duel with a Pegasas Yacht approaching Thurne, I caught him up quite quickly but when I tried to pass he constantly called starbopard on me, I was puzzelled to know how he suddenly had sppeded up untill i saw the water coming from the exhaust, I called over to let him know he didnt have the right to call water on me as he had his engine running to which he replied it was only charging his battery. Now PL being a heavy old girl will sail along the bank for quite a while before she loses speed a plastic 25ft boat will not so he must have had it in gear as there was no way he could make that much ground. I gave up and letr him go in the end as he was getting more and more desperate to stop me passing. The main problem with giving MB's instruction is they can sometimes be slow to react and before you know it I am on the other side of the river waiting to tack again, if this happens more than a couple of times I just tack short and let them go. Doug.
  23. MM, in your example I would pass well clear on the Starboard side. Going between the boom and the bank is not a place I would want to be unless instructed by the helm, as a sailor you are always trying to stay on the windward bank if possible this might mean "straight lining" round some bends to avoid having to tack early. If you get caught on a lee shore it can sometimes require the main to be dropped before you are able to get off. I have had boats both hire and private try to pass down a 6 ft gap between me and the bank when there is plenty of room on the other side you try to leave as much room as possible but a boat like PL can be slow to respond and has been known to slip sideways when you least expect it. As has been discussed not all helms both motor and sail have the same experience so where possible stay well clear as even we don't always know what's going to happen next. If instructions are given always follow them then if something does happen you can be exonerated Doug.
  24. When I saw the title of this tread I thought it was the dress code for the Forum meet up this weekend, SWMBO will be dissapointed Doug.
