  1. It was very windy in Great Yarmouth today and the water level is very high, it would not take long to get blown off course if your not concentrating. doug.
  2. You could try the carpet shop by the Grebe pub in Stalham, very helpful chap that can bind and I think fit. Doug

  5. I do this route most weeks and usually takes 2 hours from Bicester to the A47 at Norwich, then at least 30 mins to get through Norwich, I would avoid the A47 at Postwick due to road works head for the inner ring road and follow the signs for Wroxham if that's the area you need. Doug.
  6. I think your right Alan, bit the bullet and decided to replace both the stem and the apron. Tim sorry but will miss you again, RT canopy is looking good though. Doug.
  7. Down on the boat today and it looks like the wood thief has paid me a visit.
  8. Solar shower bags are very popular in Greece, we had one on PL but not always as successful. Doug.
  9. Just a quick update on the restoration of my Halfdecker. We popped in to the IBTC today to see how things are progressing, they have removed the comings and deck and installed station frmes to hold the shape. Once this is complete a strong back will be fitted and then the boat turned upside down and the hog removed ready for a new one then the planking will be removed and 4 new planks fitted either side. As usual some really nice boats having work undertaking including a really nice day boat that will receive a new deck. Doug.
  10. When we had our boat in Greece you often saw boats with nude people on board and some you rather hadn't . I remember one time when moored at Parga, we decided to walk back along the beach as the harbour is at the opersite end to the town. The boat was moored bow to the beach and I was able to climb onto the foredeck but Hele couldn't quite pull herself up so she decided to just strip off and pass me her clothes and swim round to the ladder at the stern. What she didn't realise was the people on the boat next to us were sat in the cockpit having a drink. I took a while to find a towel much to her annoyance. Doug.
  11. Ray, You need an app like photo editor as it depends what way up the iPad is when you take the picture. It will show ok on an iOS but not in windows. Or just take two pictures and rotate your iPad before the second one. Doug.
  12. My best memory of a Reed Bunting was it returning to the yard full of mud when it took a wrong turn at Great Yarmouth and got stuck against Haven Bridge and the tide took her under, with the mast against the bridge she sank. The family on board manged to get off including two small children. They where offered another boat but decided to cut the holiday short and go home. She was back out on hire just over a week later, the hire yards certainly knew how to maximise the availability of boats. Being an apprentice I had the lovely job of helping to clean her up. Doug.
  13. I don't think its Spindrift, looks like a Cresta class or Reed Bunting. Doug.
  14. There was a great program on tv last week detailing the history of the V bombers. Some great footage and very well presented. The only V bomber I didn't work on was the Vallient, both the Victor and the Vulcan hold special memories for me. Doug.
  15. Alan, It's a fascinating place steeped in history. Some great boats of all types and very friendly staff (particularly if you take biscuits) well worth a look. Doug.
  16. I was at Potter on Saturday watching the 3rivers race when a large centre cockpit type boat came out of Herbert Woods and turned towards the bridge. The crew proceeded to lower the windscreen and prepare to go under the bridge. At about 40 ft from the bridge the people standing on the bridge started shouting at them to stop and told them they must use the pilot. They proceeded to reverse back and turn round and headed for the pilot moorings only to be told they had no chance as the water was to high. This could have been a carnage had there not been so many people on the bridge shouting at them . Doug.
  17. If you take them off the bike I could drop them off for and collect and deliver back to norfolk as I travel this route all the time. 01296 632009 Is the number. Doug
  18. I take it that will be on the Bure Thurne and Ant then Pauline. I hope to come and wave from Potter Bridge. Do you have a loud northern chap on board this year. Doug.
  19. You could alway try MSG in Aylesbury, Suzuki specialist in all manor of tuning race prep etc, really knows his stuff. Doug.
  20. One bike I had would do 100mph in first gear and top out at over190 mph ( not that I tried it). It was just to fast and had to go now on the lookout for a nice 1050 tiger. Must be getting old as sports bikes just don't do it for me anymore. Cannot wait to get me leg over again. Doug .
  21. I think Jon still has the rig from Spindrift, I'm sure they looked into this a while ago. Doug.
  22. Pauline, If you get down hearted just come and take a look at mine, Tim Collins has now run out of 6" wide planks !!! Doug.
