  1. The one that sunk at Beuchamp Arms a couple of years ago was just a hose on the sink drain, took some big pumps to get her up. Greenway Marine in Loddon is a fantastic yard for woodies, Nipper spent the last 20 years wintering there, she is now tucked up in a wet shed but will come out in March for a check over. I wish them good luck with raising her. Doug.
  2. If it has insurance Doug. But you only have to have third party insurance for a Toll, Doug "Tolls are needed for any vessels kept or used within the Broads Authority's navigation area or adjacent waters. They must have: either an annual toll or a short visit toll third party insurance (except unpowered vessels with a block area of less than 6m2) a valid boat safety certificate (for vessels within the scope of the scheme, not required for short visit toll)"
  3. Such a shame when this happens, you must keep on top of maintaining any boat even more so with a woodie. Doug.
  4. I bought some very fancy polished Cherry chisels last year, they seem to hold the edge much better than Marples ones. Doug.
  5. Nipper has only a very basic battery set up, one start and one domestic. I want to fit another domestic battery so I have two 110amp batteries but there lies the problem.. At the moment both batteries are fitted one behind the other on the starboard side of the engine, the extra battery can fit on the port side of the engine but should this be the start battery or the extra domestic battery. To connect the two domestic batteries would require a cable length of around two meters or would it be better to move the start battery and keep the domestics close together. I will also be installing a battery charger, if I put the second domestic battery on the starboard side will it charge ok if the charger is connected to the port side one. Doug.
  6. Is that at The Harnser or Nicholsons You can walk to the Harnser from the footpath opposite Rico's well worth it as the food is very good but take cash as no card payments taken. The chalet park also does nice cheap food and a shorter walk. Doug.
  7. It's in Sutton, go past Tesco and turn right at the roundabout at the bottom of the high street and continue past the Harnser pub and it's on you left. About a mile and a half from Tesco. Doug.
  8. Sounds like you had a good weekend, Alan if Orca is diesel you can buy it from Nicholsons in Sutton it's much cheaper than Tesco. Doug.
  9. I recently signed up to Amazon Prime to get the next day delivery, so far both item purchased have taken two and three day respectively. I suppose now I will have to buy a fire stick otherwise I seemed to have wasted £70 Doug.
  10. Welcome to the forum Jamie, daily updates on Alert would be very welcome. Doug.

  13. JA, i would love to come and moor next to you and compare varnish. please save me a spot. Nipper.
  14. I filled up this morning at Tesco and it was £0.99.7 per litre. Happy days. Doug.
  15. Andy Hamilton use to be my Boss, He is a really great bloke with a big passion for sailing and the Broads and could often be seen sailing in his yacht Annie from Ranworth. i wish both him and his wife best wishes in a successful new venture and I'm sure he will uphold Anne's legacy. Doug.
  16. As long as he doesn't have your Sence of humour he will do just fine. Congratulations to you all. Doug.
  17. I did not realise Alan that Moonfleet were fitting a mast, you will need a bit of wind for that to work, what's wrong with you a gentle breeze is nothing to worry about. Doug.
  18. I think the Scottish have pre-planned this to stop all us Southerners gate crashing the Hogmanay celebrations. Doug.
  19. Don't forget folks it's on channel 4 tonight at 19-00. Doug.
  20. Might see Jon on there trying to sell a boat !!! Doug.
  21. The main problem is Network Rail use to use a product called sandite, a mixture between sand and wall paper paste and was quite effective at breaking down the leaf mulch. Now they only use high pressure water to clean the rail head the problem comes when the wind blows the leaves back onto the rail nothing can then break it down it just get squashed more and more into a slippery slime. It's been a nation wide problem this year with the smaller branch lines with lots of trees on route sufferering the most. High winds have also compounded the problem with most of the trees loosing the leaves a lot quicker this year. i just have to change the wheels and carry out the checks instead of supping tea !!! Doug.
  22. I paid a visit to the Boat Building Collage today to check on the progress of Alert, they have fitted a new Hog and Garboard planks both sides. Hopefully the next 5 planks each side will be more straight forward then the new ribs can be fitted before the deck goes back on. The quality so far looks good so fingers crossed that the rest will be the same standard. Doug.
  23. Jasper, have you tried the shop at Womack they do the forum items so might well be able to help. Doug.
  24. Nipper use to winter at Greenway Marine in Loddon, John rightfully can take the credit for her fantastic condition after looking after her for the last 20 years, the owners always spent a week down south before bringing her back North. Doug.
  25. Hele and I have just become the new custodians of a delightful Moores boat called Nipper. When in hire she was one of the Belmore class and built in 1950. The previous owner had her for over 20 years so we have a big reputation to uphold. We also have a barrow boat tender called Nipper's Nipper so if you see us out and about give us a wave or pop in for a cupper. Doug.
