  1. If I really wanted to be at the top on Google then I would have gone for 'Broads Holidays'!
  2. Hi Tony, sorry to read about your mum-in-law, always a worrying time. Be great if she can join you on your holiday.
  3. David, they still have a facebook presence: https://www.facebook.com/Hemsby-Lifeboat-161913407228596/
  4. And if it doesn't then please send a diver
  5. Keith, I rather suspect that you have nailed it. Just leaves the ethical use of BBC as a name.
  6. To be honest, John, I don't think that it is a question of seconds between drips, more a case of minutes. However I would be guided by experts rather than a self opinionated, self appointed expert! It is some years since I have owned a shaft driven boat but a drip every five seconds seems excessive to me.
  7. RNLI had a boat at Oulton Broad for several years. Not exactly a central location and perhaps an illogical choice when you consider they have a station at Gorleston-on-Sea that serves Breydon. Only my opinion but I don't think that the RNLI has ever grasped the difference between the open sea and the Broads whilst the lads at Hemsby have. Especially since the Coast Guard has been centralised we have lost, to a degree, that local touch and both Hemsby & Caister have stepped in and provided it. Hemsby, once again in my opinion, has filled the gap that the RNLI doesn't cover. No criticism of the RNLI, just that there is room for both & Hemsby is to be congratulated for taking on the Broads as it has. So often the rescue services offered by 'enthusiasts' is just an extension of their hobby & the public is being asked to fund it but in the case of Hemsby I firmly believe they have justified themselves and deserve our support.
  8. I wish Ryan well but using the same initials as the British Broadcasting company does worry me. Regarding old boats, once again, lets wait and see but if a boat is making money I wouldn't have expected Richardsons to part with them. Still, that's up to them, I can only guess what's going on but being realistic Richarsons don't often miss a trick.
  9. Having read all this I do have my concerns. Buying up boats discarded by other yards, if you have the expertise, might work but just why are such boats being sold off.
  10. I hope that they don't fall foul of the real BBC. For two days I worked for a firm calling itself ICI, claiming it was actually International Cleaning Initiatives, needless to say ICI fired a broadside.
  11. Richardsons once ran a series of TV ads, don't know if they are doing it again this winter. Thankfully the Authority can't afford to go it alone, just imagine the uncalled for propaganda!
  12. Perhaps a simple case of repacking your stern-gland?
  13. North Bay, Oulton Broad this evening.
  14. Just a lovely evening over Oulton Broad this evening. Iced over much of it too.
  15. Did anyone else find themselves counting just how many toes Grendel has? Just being curious?
  16. I've yet to find that mythical plumber. Plumbers seem to think themselves a breed apart, never see one on a bike either, more like a Porsche!
  17. Marsh, a reasonable opinion & comment but the reality would appear now to be as to how the tourist industry, and its customers, perceives the Broads. As one who has long held the belief that stag parties don't have a place on the Broads I do have mixed feelings on this one. That blessed man has his vision for the Broads, some of which is good, but to impose one's views via the backdoor is not agreeable.
  18. There are a number of boats on the Broads that have been totally rebuilt over the years so it would be an interesting question should it ever enter the courts. Re the longest on the Broads, maybe someone knows of a long houseboat, an ex Admiralty craft for example.
  19. Going back to the Wherry, found this one in amongst some junk belonging to my father, bit older than usual:
  20. Great, if you had a good wrist action.
  21. If old boats are your thing then why not go for the wherry Albion? All the comforts of home http://www.wherryalbion.com/charter/
  22. If I understand things correctly the price includes quite a lot of useful land behind the cafe.
