  1. But are they as efficient as a mask. Should you wear both?
  2. Boating would be good. The river Yare, Chet, and Wensum are a delight, and so is our city. Andrew
  3. I had a dog. It thought it's name was shut up!
  4. Do that hev got me in a tiss woss .
  5. So why did the hire boats consider it appropriate to hold and allow them to go through. What was the state of the tide? The positioning of some of the boats would suggest the tide was downstream. Was it windy, did that influence their decision. In conclusion MM. Were you there?
  6. It was not a silly picture. One day there will be an incident at Reedham. I used to live at Reedham, I often visit Reedham. I have spoken to many of the residents of Reedham. I have over the years spoken to many of the quay attendant. All are of the same mind. The water can be very cold, bitterly cold. If you fall in wearing waterproof, warm layers of clothing and no life jacket you have little chance. Your first wave, of your three, is I am here. The second please help. The third......goodbye. We will wave back. Old Wussername
  7. Count the life jackets being worn by the crew of those boats navigating the bridge. Did they care, nope. Did they understand. Nope. If one or two of them fell in.......how would they get out. Who would get them out? Andrew.
  8. In the fullness of time and especially because of the circumstances of the present day it might be considered appropriate to revisit our current practice of running engines whilst at moorings. I suspect that many people who have respiratory issues and those who might be just experiencing such issues might just welcome a consideration from others. Andrew
  9. Absolutely fantastic. How you have the patience I do not know. Or indeed the knowledge of where to start. Indeed the vision to achieve the final outcome. Thanks for sharing. May I also include Grendle and Mr Q, for their contribution to Norfolk modelling.
  10. I always thought that most food was zero rated. It is the service element which is vatable.
  11. Was the helm in charge of the boat? Was the helm aware of his responsibility towards his crew.? Did the helm have any concept of his responsibility with regard to other craft? Finally did the helm have control of the boat? Finally, accidents, serious incidents involving death, life changing incidents, invariably are not caused by an isolated incident but a combination of factors. Perhaps, just perhaps, we have witnessed the possible escalation of a serious issue. Thankfully this did not happen.
  12. Surely the Broads Authority will have the forsight to have a Ranger at Ranworth to supervise the arrivals and departures. Andrew.
  13. I am local. I have lived in Norfolk all my life. Several generations of my family have been involved in the hire boat industry and are still involved. I am fearful of the final outcome of this dreadful virus for the tourist industry in Norfolk and the Broads industry in particular. I have been told to be alert. Well, I have been trying my best to be alert for several years. I don't think I'm very good at it. But I am aware. I am aware that I am old and vulnerable. I have been told that I am shielding, whatever that means. I have a whole raft of medical issues. But I enjoy being here, I look forward to all you people coming to Norfolk. Please come. I shant be there to help you moor. To have a yarn, a mardle, a laugh and a joke. Be alert. But also be aware and that some of us old codgers have to be as well. Old Wussername
  14. I have been on the Electric Eel. Sadly no toilet. However not a long trip so not an issue. It was from How Hill if I remember and a trip which I thoughly recommend. As for Nobby a wonderful character. Many a tale to be told. Andrew
  15. I've been on it. Full of OAP's. Excuse me Mr Captain sir. I need a pee! Useless thing. Unless you are near a mangrove swamp or amongst the Everglades. May I suggest that, together with the Spirit of Breydon it is laid to rest at Stalham. That most excellent venue the Museum of the Broads. Andrew
  16. Yes it is a scam. I am having an OAP relapse. How do the perpetrators of the evil deed make their money?
  17. Marshy, absolutely wrong! The control of covid virus 19 is based on Track and Trace. Without going into obvious detail how do you Trace a person in a caravan, in a tent, in an unknown holiday home......on a boat, could be moored anywhere. That person who has beyond doubt been in contact with a friend or relative lying in an incubator. That person who needs to be informed that he is a carrier and can infect, will infect others. Andrew
  18. Hi Mike I was not aware of hordes at GY. Not surprising really, I only live 10 miles away but rarely visit. However have not been aware from the media anyway of any significant problem. I stand to be corrected.
  19. Hedging their bets. I hope. Norfolk is not ready for an influx of people at this moment in time. It cannot cope, and will not cope. Be patient, there will be a time in the very near future when confidence on both sides will be recognised. But not yet. Andrew
  20. History is always written by the winners. When two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated, and the winner writes the history books-books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe. As Napoleon once said, 'What is history, but a fable agreed upon?” ― Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code
  21. I liked your post MB. I would also like to thank you as well. So I have done so here. Andrew
  22. Could have been you mate, coming home at silly o'clock. That's why mother would have been worried.
  23. I think that many shore based toilets leave much to be be desired, irrespective of the virus issue. May this prompt the authorities to up their game.
  24. He will need a box to put it in!
  25. The Broadland Knot master speaking. Having observed knots of generations of visitors and private owners I have come to the conclusion that if you don't know knots "tie lots". You may find that a well meaning local will tie your boat up for you. Thank him. His effort will be a silly thing. Once he has gone creep up surreptitiously, untie it and create your own magnificent wonder. The bigger the knot the better. It is your mooring post. Go for it. Fill the post up. If you have got 30 ft of rope, use it. Wrap it round and round. The feel good factor will be unbelievable, don't forget to stand back and admire it, this work of art. Retire for the night, not for a night cap, we are talking a night hat, a big one. Safe in the knowledge that all is well. Unless the tide turns. Night night sweet repose, half the bed and all the clothes. Old Wussername
