  1. still waiting for delivery of a new brake master cylinder that failed as i was testing the new discs and pads i had fitted to the car, it was due yesterday, but due to a problem is being redelivered today hopefully. fitting is simple, just a few bolts, bleeding any air from the system will be the fun bit, and the weather too of course.
  2. then there is the yellow post on hickling leading to catfield, that is so far from the next post of any colour i am never sure which side to pass it, is it marking the corner between green and red going north of south? i always turn after the post coming up hickling or just before it coming down, I know if you start cutting across from the next post either way it gets shallow, so you need to go close to the yellow post, but even i as a fairly experienced boated am unsure on this one?
  3. in fact a great deal is made around this point in Arthur Ransomes Coot Club, with the wreckers as they come down the bure, to the stranding of the margoletta on the mud of Breydon with the Death and Glories putting the anchor down and informing the skipper of the come along that she wasnt for salvage.
  4. just think Jay, when it floods it will turn into a drive through for boats.
  5. i have trouble keeping up with what is or isnt current
  6. i thought weddings and funerals had been reduced to 15 people
  7. Nowadays my tv viewing normally takes the form of talking pictures tv in the background, and half the time i will have it tuned to a youtube channel
  8. Perhaps a better option would be for an escorted service across Breydon, whereby half way through slack the escort boat could escort a convoy of hire boats from North to South, whilst a similar boat performed the service the other way around. this could be run similarly to the bridge pilots at wroxham or Potter Heigham, and while it would not be compulsory, could be factored into charges if someone ran aground, ie well since you decided against boatyard advice and did not use the service, then ran aground, we will charge you for your recovery, this would also maybe provide a tow service for yachts without engines wanting to pass through - in a similar way to the come along in Arthur Ransomes Coot club. organised by the hire boat companies it could provide seasonal employment for several people, and a valuable service for those hirers new to the broads and uncertain about crossing Breydon.
  9. yes she is a private day boat, built by marthams
  10. i of course forgot to add the number of silly responses likely too.
  11. its just struck me, I always knew Polly was Batty, now we have proof.
  12. maybe its as simple as they went past with the yellow post on the right going south and think they have to leave it on the right coming back. I am sure there are signs that say turn past the yellow post.
  13. i have no idea, but can guarantee that if you get 20 fishermen answering you will probably get 20 or more answers, all different
  14. personally i paid out for a freesat box and make do with the umpteen channels that gives - freeview in my area as we are on a repeated is a fraction of the standard freeview channels and half a dozen radio stations, i think we have about 10 or 12 channels. sky - no way, at the prices they charge
  15. do you need to borrow my tee shirt?
  16. 12 gb usually lasts me 11 months so thats about fine
  17. well you wouldnt want to be skinny dipping in the crystal clear waters at geldeston.
  18. very similar to mine motorboater, mine has 12gb data that lasts for a year, thyat is cheaper to gt a new sim than top up an old one.
  19. you might create a wifi hotspot from your phone. i use an o2 mobile internet hotspot that generally keeps me connected via a huwawei dongle thingy
  20. actually a 50% increase as the first time period was double the second (or does that make it 200&, statistics cant get my head round how they are supposed to work)
  21. but the reality is that if you introduced these measures into new designs, in 50 years time there will still be boats on hire and private that wont have these features, you have to remember the working lives of these boats, Marthams fleet are all 60 years old at least, and i wouldnt be at all surprised to see them still under hire in 50 more years.
  22. i think it falls upon all of us more experienced broads users to assist and advise this growing number of new visitors to the area.
  23. well its a half and half really only woody up top.
  24. you have to remember people have to learn boating somewhere, on the broads they learn something in their first week, a lot learn enough to want to try it again, next time they learn a bit more. i have been quite a few times now, and the minute i stop learning things will be the day i have stopped doing things.
