  1. Dont cut the plug off an appliance when tired - I was sure it was unplugged - Bang!
  2. Well thinking on it, most of the components that will be at risk will be either waterproofed, or be located well above the possible water level (the radio receiver needs to be fairly high up to get a good signal, motors and batteries should be fine in (generally) fresh water, but I will have a thought about a bilge pump. with the hull sealed properly the only way water should get in would be normal seepage on the prop shaft (very tiny amount), or a wave over the deck, we already know from the real thing that she is quite a capable craft in moderate seas, maybe I can design a small centrifugal pump to act as a bilge pump, actually that might be a fun idea to design. Last night saw a further 8 fenders added to the fittings produced, so now I need to smooth those out and prep them for painting.
  3. That is true Charlie, though I suppose its good in some ways that some of the parts dont even cost 1/12 of the cost of the equivalent for Broad Ambition.
  4. This evening the next plank is steamed, shaped and clamped in shape, aside from that, I have been cleaning up the ridges left in the fenders from printing, chucking up in the lathe, filing then sanding, this leaves them smooth ready for paint.
  5. The proverbial indestructable policemans helmet.
  6. It could be worse - It could have been Scottish.
  7. Photo duly checked, and its a standard long fender, now where is that blue paint?
  8. Ah well, back to stuffing it all in the mattress then, Over the years I have had several bad experiences with banks, Nat West were the worst, spiralling me into debt, they charged me for going overdrawn, the charges were more than the amount I had gone overdrawn, then they sent me a letter, charging me £25 for sending it- then as I had gone further overdrawn they charged me again for going overdrawn, and sent me another letter......... after ending up several hundred pounds in the red, for an overdrawn amount of a couple of pounds, my wages went in, by the end of that month I was overdrawn again, and it all went round again, as my wages were barely enough for a new family of 3 to survive on. I ended up taking out a loan to repay the charges. and eventually after they had repeated this, and I was now several thousand pounds down, so I changed banks, borrowed some money from my parents and paid off the bank, leaving me level, but still owing my parents (thank god for parents). All of this was a long time ago, before the banks had limits to how many times they could charge you for going overdrawn etc, and its too long ago now to try and claim it back (way before they started on PPI) Barclays is my current bank, and I have had one instance where they stopped my card as they thought it had been used fraudulently (abroad) and got in touch with me, sent out a new card and changed details for me - no problem, and none since.
  9. Well after printing them out in batches of 8 (2 1/2 hours a batch) I didnt wake up especially, but when I woke in the night one batch had finished, so I set another batch going. I think I will need to set a final batch on the go tonight as I am at least 2 fenders short at the moment (and I will need a couple of spares for that 'blue one') - Actually thinking about it, wasnt the blue one a ball fender?- I will go check the photo on the thread in a minute. so clean up required to smooth these out, then a paint job, and some lines to attach them with (not too sure how I will get on trying to splice the lines to them in this size)
  10. last nights shaped plank is now glued in place. through today I have been working out what work needs doing on both models, its longer than the Broad Ambition snagging list, but steady progress will get me through some of them, now off to print more fenders while I still have plenty of the natural colour filament left.
  11. perhaps asking for a confirmation of insurance is their way of burying their head in the sand, especially if they do not intend to do anything about it, it sounds like it may be their law, but maybe they dont want to have to enforce it, so by asking and getting a confirmation, that is good enough to cover their backsides.

    Cuckoos

    probably Great Northern Divers.
  13. he took it off when they announced that tolls were by length x breadth area
  14. no pictures, but todays progress is another plank steamed and shaped and clamped to shape.
  15. I bet from a distance they look like hares......
  16. yes, I get that one every time I see him.
  17. on my linux laptop, I have a free gps program, this allows downloads from open streetmaps, and is accurate to about the last 30 seconds - ie I wouldnt want to try and drive at 30mph using it, but at just a few mph you will be within a few yards, its accurate enough to show which lane you are driving in on the motorway. I think its called foxtrot gps.
  18. yesterdays shaped plank has been glued in place now.
  19. those wont help his ankles!
  20. OOh wheres that report button, as an all year round shorts wearer, I take offence at that remark (or a hedge or summat). I wear shorts because I want to, I dont have tattoos on my calves (or my Bullocks or sheep neither), neither am I a postman (most of ours round here wear shorts all year too). I also dont wear designer clothes (unless tescos or asda shorts are classed as designer). I find that I dont feel cold wearing shorts - even in the middle of winter, as long as I keep my body and head warm and keep moving. I think the nearest I have ever been to being a fashion statement, would be to state that I was a fashion disaster, I only ever wear what I am comfortable wearing.
  21. If you do proceed with this purchase, dont complain if you get held to Ransome
  22. What variety of the Amazon did you require, I see most come with red caps, and are only really deliverable if you are by the waterside, plus they tend to be piratical in nature. I really would avoid ordering one of these unless you have available dinghy parking outside, for two Dinghys, as I am sure they would want their friends the swallows to visit.
  23. and back to 2 planks today, fitted one earlier and have just steamed and clamped the next.
  24. do you have space for a mini Broad Ambition, I would like to bring at least one of the models, complete or not, even if it means driving up and sleeping in the car.
