  1. Wish I could have been there, but we were night navving tha ant, in the end the planned wild mooring was occupied, and though there was room, it was evenly spaced either side of one of the moored boats, who when asked decided they didn't want to move up a bit so we ended up at St Bennets.
  2. Not sure to be honest, we may be night navving Broad ambition to potter to meet up with the rest of lads week. So if I am there I will be there, if not, I will be busy
  3. I always try and return the plates and dirty glasses in pubs, it just seems a common courtesy
  4. I had my 4th Covid booster last friday, got the email and went to the local walk in centre, all 4 have been pfizer, the feeling rough tarted about 12 hours later then lasted a further 24 hours, nothing I couldnt work round, but just slightly rough, flu jab booked for the end of the month.
  5. Sorry TFrench89, we are having a bit of a laugh on your thread, these things happen here, we get a bit sidetracked (or should i be apologising as that would be admitting liability- oops sidetracked again)
  6. not if the dog in question 'identifies' as a mouse
  7. also worth noting that if they clip you with the back of the boat while turning, many might not even notice they had done it, their attention might well be forwards. a lot of new hirers forget that its the back of the boat that swings out when turning.
  8. I can testify that battery explosions do happen, I had one in my transit van, I had had the battery on charge, took it off charge, and went to start the engine - Boom, bits of battery and acid sprayed out of the engine compartment covering a radius of about 20 foot. a new battery was required as well as hosing down the inside of the engine bay.
  9. dont get me wrong I will eat custard in all shapes and forms, but for a crumble it has to be hot and freshly made. (early in my career I had an arrangement with the ladies in the canteen, they would make me a special apple turnover that could span a soup plate and then fill the soup plate with custard, always complement the canteen ladies on their food, it pays dividends.
  10. it will be hot custard, made with birds custard powder and milk (i am not brave enough to try making it with eggs and cornflower)
  11. i think they just need to be secured from moving (others will come along and furnish more detail in due course)
  12. Just popped out into the garden and picked some apples from my tree for the apple crumble I will be cooking on lads week, the biggest weighed in at 15 oz (425g), they are lovely apples, cooker/ eaters (sweet enough to eat, and can be cooked without sugar), I don't know the variety, as when compared to those at Brogdale, mine are about 3 weeks earlier than the main contenders. (They also make good juice and cider) The only problem with them is the tree carries hundreds of these huge apples, and they don't keep, they quickly go woolly inside, so only last a couple of weeks.
  13. i had a friend, he had an Alsatian, it always liked to stick its head out of their landrover window in the breeze, after several eye problems and ear infections, he did get it a flying helmet and goggles to wear while driving (and yes on occasion the white scarf.)
  14. cheaper to heat the pub and keep a pub full of people warm and enjoying a communal drink than heating 20 homes
  15. not many a night goes by without a moderator somewhere being heard uttering this prayer "oh lord, please send down your servant Iain (Broadscot) to smite these sinners."
  16. which would lead to the speculation over why.
  17. the team are discussing whether we can allow a photo, on the proviso that the boat name is not visible, and neither are the crew, as soon as we have a response we will let you know (or rather let the owner of the photo know) we already know the boat type and yard it seems, the question is, would that actually stop speculation, or just fuel further speculation based on the evidence seen?
  18. I wwould think the bow and access to the mudweight would be the sticking point here, many are more than 1.5m from a grab rail

    Bird Flu

at this stage I will say its not just dogs, my ex once had one of our cats bite clean through her thumb as she tried to give it a tablet, right through, the only thing that stopped it was when it hit the thumbnail having bitten from the other side. moral of the story, when the vet suggests tablets, suggest an injection version instead (no matter if it costs twice as much. we once had a vet show us just how easy it was to give a cat a tablet, boy did we laugh, they swaddled the cat in a towel, popped the tablet in, and both the vet and assistant got scratched in the ensuing spitball, the towel was shredded, and after everything sort of calmed down, the cat spit the tablet out. we had warned them he didnt like tablets.
  20. just remember to let the hire yard know so it can be fixed for the next hirer.
  21. i think the logistics of moving the salt surge to the rhine might defeat us., you would need big pumps and a lot of hose.
  22. I do recall reading somewhere that a barrier at great Yarmouth would cause great problems on the northern side of the town, I think the issue was that the entire area sits on a gravel and sand spit, and if a barrier was erected, the sea water would find its way through that sub surface and erode the gravel and sand, causing issues such as subsidence etc. also that the bure would then possibly change its course to the sea if enough erosion was caused. so the answer is never as simple as you would think it should be.
