  1. Congratulations to you both
  2. Years ago boats all had gas water heaters. instant hot water and no need for running engines. Then health and safety came along. Plus of course theses days boats have no end of electrical items on board which of course drain the batteries. 240v inverters in particular
  3. The English built all those castles on the Welsh Marches to try and keep the Welsh out. It never worked though. Airbrushed out? More likely my poor attempt at trying to translate good Welsh into a foreign language.
  4. Have had other things on my mind but I will reply now, Yes this is the chorus from the Welsh National Anthem "Hen Vlad Fy Nhadau" I will have a go at translating but if I get it wrong then blame the dragons. Home Home, I love my home Where the pure land is surounded by the sea May our language continue. The first part of my post shoukd be fairly obvious "Draig goch am byth" Red dragon for ever"
  5. I said I would not post further but I must make something clear. No member of this forum has upset me in any way. We don’t always agree with each other but that is what a forum is all about. What has upset me is the groups of people hanging about the shopping centre harrasing anyone without a mask. I am sure this is a result of the stirring of the situation as a result of Faceache and similar sites. Shop staff in general have now got their act together. To reply to another recent post I am not anticipating a problem before it happens. The problem is already here. Anyway Please be clear that nobody on this Forum has caused me any upset.
  6. I have had enough now and will not contribute any more to this thread . no offence against anyone but nothing will change and we will just keep going round in circles. Despite the Government guidelines saying I do not require to wear a mask I have received such abuse today that I don’t really want to ever venture out again. The zealots on social media have obviously stirred everyone up I guess our illustrious leaders with the assistance of faceache etc have succeeded in giving us the instruction they dare not give out themselves. Ie. Just stay at home and wait to die. Sorry if I sound miserable but I have enough to cope with and this has pushed me to a point where I am losing interest in everything. Maybe I will feel a bit different after I hopefully get some rest. Someone depends on me and I have to try and find a way to cope.
  7. draig goch am byth Gwlad!, GWLAD!, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad. Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau, O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
  8. I will go back in the next day or two and see if things have changed. i agree with your comments re poor management. likely the guys on the door were simply told to keep anyone not wearing a mask out. The small convenience store near to me have been fully understanding and no problems there at all.
  9. After contacting the store I was informed that this blanket ban on entry was totally incorrect and would be addressed with staff concerned. To be fair to Retailers they have had this imposed on them at very short notice with full guidelines only issued yesterday. Government saying that shopkeepers will not be responsible for policing the law and on the other hand the police saying that they will rely on shops to ensure compliance.
  10. Well! So much for Government lists of those exempt. Tried this morning prepared for giving explanation. Did not have to explain. They had the equivalent of bouncers posted at the entrance refusing entry to anyone without a mask. Despite the Government’s exemptions, they would not listen. The same shop that I had used regularly over the last few months where all had been fine and everyone observed the 2 metre rules. Rather than rely on social media hype and vigilantes to make life miserable for those unable to wear a mask It would have been far better to be honest in the first place when they imposed this so late in the day and said officially that if you cannot where a mask that you will have to go back under lockdown and get someone else to shop for you. i can cope and have someone else to get shopping for me. My biggest problem Is how on earth do I explain to the elderly parent with limited understanding I live with that we can’t go to the shops anymore.
  11. You are so correct in what you say Ray. According to the Government I am exempt because of Severe asthma if I try to wear a mask. Not for want of trying to wear one either as I have tried several times and it is simply imposible as I become breathless so quickly. No problem at all with the buses as they simply gave me a card to show the driver should I need to travel, However, it is a different story when it comes to the shops. I have spoken to the owners of the small shops I normally use and all have been fully understanding. It is not law untill Friday but this morning I went in to our local shop and post office and was near assaulted at the door by a group of what I would call mask vigilantees who were hanging around outside the shop giving a hard time to anyone not wearing a mask. These were not shop staff. I guess it was just a few people getting kicks out of harrassing others but if this is going to be the case once this becomes law then I guess the Government have got their wish and some of us will never be able to go into shops again. As a full time carer I have to accept that I no longer have anything like a normal life as I can only leave the house for short periods. However a trip to the shop for half an hour was always some much needed respite. Can still get supplies but as far as I can see its house arrest for the foreseeable future.
  12. It’s it just shopkeepers that need explanation. I was in our local small shop the other day and some horrible guy in a mask was giving the poor man behind the counter a really nasty time because he was not wearing a mask. i am sure if I try and continue shopping ,even with an exemption, that I will face similar harassment from others.
  13. I have just read that face masks are to be compulsary in English shops from 24 July. This was likely to happen so on Saturday I obtained said item on the basis that if required one would just have to look daft for a few minutes when walking into the local shop. No way was I prepared for what was to happen when I tried on a mask when I got home. The thing felt very uncomfortable and my glasses instantly steamed up. Suddenly without warning, and after less than a minute, I felt my chest tighten and found myself fighting for breath, Even though I got the mask off quickly I still could not get my breath and I was really scared,. To be honest I thought it was a heart attack and this was the end. Took some time to recover and on seeking medical advise it would appear that the restriction to my breathing caused by the mask had been sufficeint to somehow trigger a severe asthma attack. I have had a few problems with asthma in the past but never as bad as this. Surely I cant be the only one this has happened to and would be interested to hear if anyone else has had problems with face nasks. From a practical point of view this means I am effectivly on permanant house arrest after 24 July. As a full time carer this is going to be a nightmare .

  15. As Timbo has already pointed out. HRH Prince Philip served during the fighting of WW2. Prince Andrew served in the Falklands. (Our government wanted him to be excused but he stood his ground, stating thiat he was a serving officer and would continue to do his duty serving Queen and country) He remained in the Falklands after the Queen stated her support for his decision. Prince Harry, as an officer in the Blues and Royals, served on the front line in Helmand province Afghanistan. The late King George VI visited troops serving overseas on a number of occasions during WW2, often at considerable personal risk, Honestly I can see no evidence whatsoever of any of the Royals serving in the armed forces having an easy ride. As for Captain Tom Moore, God bless you Captain Sir Thomas Moore, an officer and a Gentleman. An honour well deserved.
  16. So true Nearly all these press reports are unnecessary. Also they should round up and disperse that huge media circus hanging about outside SaintThomas’s hospital.
  17. it all works fine Carol and automatically appears as the secure https: site . Looking forward so seeing any new material when you have time to work on the site. We all need something to take out mind off the terrible situation at the moment and if we cannot be on the Broads we can at least enjoy looking at times past. Once again many thanks for all the work you have put in over the years to bring Broadland Memories to us.
  18. Hard as it is to have freedom so limited by the state I for one can understand the reasons behind the actions. I wonder how many people on here remember a tv drama back in the 1970's called "survivors", The series was based on a group of the few people still left after a virus had wiped out most of the worlds population. God willing this current situation will never reach that point. However, we can all help by following the advice given by our government which is based on scientific and medical advice. If remaining indoors and venturing out as little as possible can slow down the spread of this virus and potentially save many lives then it is our duty to follow the rules as instructed. The police are not going to have an easy job enforcing the rules but they know lives depend on them doing so and they really need to have the powers to carry out that duty. I feel for you Helen having lost your neighbour and friend but thank you for posting on here and issuing your plea for people to really take this serioiusly. Keep safe everybody
  19. Same here Not seen the sky so empty since the Icelandic volcano erupting. I’m about 30 miles from Heathrow
  20. Had a quick look in Steve but nobody about so, like you, gave up. Could not have stayed for long but could have done with a chat after trying trying to explain the new restrictions to Mother. Maybe better luck next time I log in.
  21. Same round here today After Boris made his pronouncements yesterday the shelves have been stripped bare. No home delivery slots available at all.
  22. They should be paying us to watch the BBC these days
  23. Have they considered one of the biggest carriers of germs. Namely cash and bank notes. handled every day by millions of people.
  24. There are risks and the best we can all do is to be sensible and cautious and follow any proper advice from qualified professionals. it is high time though that something was done about the deliberate scaremongering by the media. The tabloids are going way over the top this weekend and now the BBC are just as bad. I usually get shopping on Monday but last week our local Morrisons was worse than Christmas Eve. (Scaremongering by the media over the weekend no doubt ). Left things till Wednesday and Sainsbury’s was dead quiet. No bog rolls of course but not on my list anyway. I was able to get all our usual food items. This week I will wait again till midweek. There is only myself and my mother living here but she is nearly 90 so I don’t want her worrying about anything. Especially any food shortages . It is rather a good thing In some ways that she does not understand a lot of what is said on the TV news.
