  8. Puts a whole new meaning to "THE NEW CUT"
  9. I have no idea what questions Steve has included in his quiz but I do know from some of his previous quizes that it will certainly not be techy or all about boats. More likely just a light hearted quiz probably with a bit of a Christmas theme. Really just a bit of fun. All will be welcome to join in.
  10. I seem to remember back in the late 80's / early 90's when you booked with Hoseasons you were entered into some sort of draw. One or two large prizes and hundreds of these disposable cameras. I recall getting one but cant remember the year. The pictures came out surprisingly well considering it was a cheap disposable item. I recall that I processed the film myself and you had to effectivly break the camera to get the roll out.
  11. Of course you could always personalise the tender and call it "THE RASCAL"
  12. If the boat is making a statement by the name "INDEPENDENCE" Maybe the tender should be called "BREXIT"
  13. To use the Marine vhf frequencies a Marine Radio licence is required and there are a number of courses available. An Amateur Radio Licence is only valid for transmission on the frequencies permitted for Amateur Radio operation. I did try out one of these Beofeng Radios and discovered they had a tendancy to cause interference on frequencies other then they one they were transmitting on. Arthur ( G0GJR)
  14. You are right Ray It was Salvage Hunters season 3 episode 2. Broadcast around 2013 I think. Not available for Free on Youtube unfortunately but I did find it on Amazon Video fro £2.40 Salvage Hunters Scroll down the page to find episode 2 Hope the link works.
  15. I guess there must have been a lot of editing done to fit the content into around 40 minutes (1 hour with all the adverts included) Pity we cant see the footage that was not shown.
  16. Pru was quoting from the Arthur Ransome book Coot Club. The actual wording was. The klop, klop of water under the bows of a small boat will cure most troubles in this world.
  17. Not had a chance to watch the film yet but there were two rail bridges as you came into yarmouth from the north. The first was about half way down the yacht station and used to carry the line to Yarmouth Beach Station. (This was removed some years ago) There was then the road bridge followed by Vauxhall bridge which carried the rail line to the docks. I can recall that at the Yacht Station, moorings above the rail bridge were for yachts and those downstream of it for cruisers.
  18. I have hired single handed from richardsons and Eastwood whelpton. I think Barnes brinkcraft will also hire to as will Freedom on a couple of their smaller boats
  19. That would be the old haddiscoe lifting bridge on the new cut before the new bridge was built
  20. I have avoided contributing more to this thead as I had a feeling that it might head in the wrong direction. I must comment though John that I am 100 percent in agreement with what you say. It has been bad enough with the media constantly looking to try and portray our Royal family in a negative way. Please let us not allow this thread to go the same way. With regard to Princess Diana about who the thread started about. It is 20 years since the tragic events in Paris and although she will never be forgotten it is long time she was allowed to rest in peace. The Royal Family, especially Prince William and Prince Harry will always have the true memories of her but they must be really sick of constantly seeing her pictures all over the papers after all this time. I do not wish to add further to this thread but I am a Royalist and am proud to says so.
  21. I have seen at first hand the sick behaviour of the media in the wake of tragedy. From my own point of view I had every respect for Princess Diana. However, I have no time at all for the way the media insist on milking a story for everything they can gain from it. Much credit to Prince William and Prince Harry who by taking part in recent programs on both ITV and BBC have probably stopped the worst excesses of the TV Stations turning the whole thing into a circus.
  22. I have hired Rhapsody a few years ago. As Robin says this is identical to concerto but does not have the opening canopy. Despite the fact that this was a 4 berth boat and I had her single handed I found the lack of storage space a real problem. I ended up putting everything in the cabin with the bunk beds. I would imagiane that storage would certainly be an issue with a family on board. Not only lack of space for clothes etc but also not a lot of space for food and other supplies. The cupboard next to the cooker is probably intended to be used as a larder but its proximity to the heat makes it useless for that purpose. From a navigation point of view I found the boat easy enough to handle and of course the wide side decks that you get on this type of craft do make things safer when mooring up etc.
  23. Different times Ray. I recall in the severe winter of 1963 that the playground was just a complete sheet of ice. Numerous slides were made and used . The teachers in those days just let us get on with it. When we were kids nearly all boys ( and some girls) were constanly getting cuts and grazed knees when playing. I suspect there would be a massive fuss if it happened today.
  24. Don't forget another predator that was certainly causing reduction in water fowl a few years ago. Mink
