  1. Speedie...I'd run some anti-malware software first. MBAM works well. You can get it FOC from www.malwarebytes.org This will highlight any nasties kicking in including boot-up villainy. Additionally, your browser could have been hijacked by resource-hungry adware. Check your Firefox setup for unwanted add-ons and remove them. BTW, your broadband speeds are pretty good.
  2. I always remember the very wise words of Rod (FlyingFortress) given to me a few years ago... "Might is right!"
  3. My favourite adverts? Any through which I can fast-forward
  4. The Starbrite Liquid Rubbing Compund already mentioned is indeed a superb product but I've found it to be just a little too gentle at times especially with heavy oxidation. If you want something with a little more 'bite', Farécla G3 is an excellent alternative but...you need to use plenty of water with it as it can be a little over-zealous when used dry. .
  5. Welcome, Ray! "If you make something idiot proof, nature will just build a better idiot."
  6. Wise decision IMHO. A friend of mine had a similar problem whilst downloading stuff over a public network which resulted in a rather vicious and destructive piece of malware making its way to his hard drive. The cure was a full reinstall of everything. Fortunately, he backed files up regularly. After any and all updates, I always run a full virus scan and mbam even if the updates were done at home. Bit OTT I guess...I'm not paranoid...I just know they're out to get me!
  7. With total respect to Geoff&Wendy for the sentiment, I think it's very difficult to single out just one particular person for their services to the Broads. There are a large number of people, both members and non-members, who have tirelessly promoted the Broads for many years. People like Griff, Lord Paul, Jenny Morgan, AdnamsGirl, Dajen, Paladin et al, all of whom have been consumate ambassadors for the Broads for many years...often in an unsung capacity. Apologies to any names I've missed. I've not actually watched any of Robin's videos as they're not my thing at all but I'm fully aware that they give immense pleasure to many people so I'm not trying to disrespect his work in any way.
  8. Spent many a pleasant afternoon on Black Horse Broad over the years. Tranquility at its best. Last year we were lucky enough to be there when a group of sailing enthusiasts turned up to do some race practice. As we were mid-broad and presenting a rather large GRP obstacle likely to impede the progress of the sailboats, we simply upped sticks and moved out of the main channel to an area unlikely to be used that day as informed by the very polite safety boat skipper. We were then treated to a display of super-skilled sailing prowess which was beyond belief. Some of the moves they pulled seemed to actually defy the laws of physics at times. True skill and so good to watch. Anyway, I digress...sorry, we've never actually overnighted on Black Horse as we were under the impression that it wasn't permitted.
  9. Spoken like the true gentleman you are, sir. A bit of Strowie-baiting is part of the fun though. Where is he anyway? He is rather conspicuous by his absence of late.
  10. Couldn't agree more, Peter. Running diesels at moorings is just wrong. There is no excuse IMHO. Was it a pointed remark of mine? Probably yes to a small degree but not meant nastily...you DO have form for taking verbal swipes at motor vessels in general from time to time.
  11. Or the ever-prevalent reek of bigotry and intolerance from certain quarters....
  12. More chance of getting bitten by a daffodil or trampled to death by money-spiders!
  13. The A17 is most definitely a serious pain in the hind-quarters. Having said that, it is the shortest route for us mileage-wise and actually way better than the bad-old-days of the 5-mile tailbacks on the Clenchwarton Road into King's Lynn. The B1145 is a delight IMHO. Steady rumble over to Coltishall through some very pretty villages. It makes the journey a pleasant part of the break for us.
  14. Massive overkill. Must have been a 'slow news day' too. It'll probably go down in the BA records as another 'near drowning incident'. Having said that, good to know that nobody was injured.
  15. We make it a point to avoid Tesco like the plague...regardless of where we are in the country. Despise them with a passion. Check out www.tescopoly.com as it's a bit of an eye-opener at times.
  16. Mandy, Dihydrocodeine (DHC) might be an effective pain reliever for sciatica but you'll need to get it from your GP as it's a prescription only medication. Arthrotec 75 (Diclofenac Sodium ) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and another superb pain reliever...again it's prescription only though. These two medications can also be used together as they are in different painkiller classes. I used this combination for a while some years back for arthritic hip pain and they were a reasonably effective treatment.
  17. Mark, as far as I'm aware, Boulters in Horning are still offering diesel at 99p a litre. Completely useless information for you guys on the southern Broads though...sorry.
  18. Some of the mobility scooter-users around us are far more dangerous than the HGVs as they seem to have their own unofficial race programme in place! The drag strip from the town's market place to the church is downhill and partly pedestrianised...ostensibly to provide a safe haven from traffic of course. That goal has more or less been rendered null and void by the 'racers' bless 'em. The speed and moves performed by the competitors are fun to watch but from a safe distance.
  19. To me, the appearance of this regular visitor heralds the arrival of Spring!
  20. Au contraire...there are some people out there who definitely aren't worth the hair on a dog's back let alone its life. That assertion is proven every day when the news is broadcast. Sweeping statement really, Peter. As for going in the water after a dog...with care, yes. Simply launching oneself into the water without some forethought is inadvisable. As has been said before, in an adrenalin situation, instinct tends to take over and nobody knows for absolute certainty how'd they'd react in such circumstances.
