  1. Just like the old days! We used to dip the tank when the boat came back and refund the hirer for the unused fuel. They went home with a bit of a refund which was nice. It was some years ago though....
  2. Careful now, I'm not sure a members Jimmy Choo shop was where Jonzo saw the forum heading
  3. A quick update. Had a lengthy chat with BSS technical today. They are already aware of a problem and now, with our info as well they will be contacting Eberspacher for clarification with a view to putting out a bulletin to the examiners. He said their problem is that they are unable to assess the unit in place to establish it's suitability but they can look at recommending everyone to change to a recognised unit instead. I will keep you posted
  4. I have volunteered to organise the 2018 calender (moderators un-moderated if I remember correctly ) and help at the events. It was pretty painless, there was no initiation ceremony (yet)!
  5. There is so much more to running this forum than I.T. and techy stuff. Aside from the Moderators, there is the organising, running of and helping out at the forums physical events. The organising of forum flags to sell, calenders to adorn bulkheads with, sponsorship, adverts, fund raising and just about anything else you can think of that enables you, right now, to read this.... The I.T. makes it all happen but the rest makes the I.T. needed.
  6. You beat me to it! Yes, cut your spacer in half and then you can easily insert each half into position from the top and clamp into place while the glue goes off. Then cut the vinyl to size round the aperture and finish with either the trim supplied or something suitable.
  7. It is possible that there may be some heating system exhaust silencers that are not fully sealed units. We have Mike (Chameleon) to thank for bringing this to our attention after he discovered there may be an issue with the silencers themselves. There are two options of silencer being offered for marine use. The first is a pressed steel unit with the main body crimped together to form the silencing chamber. This unit is not fully sealed as it is intended for use on the outside of a vehicle like a camper van, lorry, caravan etc where any exhaust gasses escaping through the crimped join are wasted to the atmosphere and not into the living space. The second unit is a fully sealed marine unit that is designed to be fitted within the hull of a boat where any leaked exhaust gasses would be able to work their way through the boat and possibly into living accomodation. These units prevent that happening. Mikes contacted Eberspacher direct who advised on the right silencer for the application and explained the difference in detail. They also suggested that, for anyone not sure whether their existing unit is safe, that if you blank off one end with your hand and blow into the other end, the pressed steel one will leak along the seam whereas a fully sealed unit will not. Of course not all pressed steel ones will leak and different kits come with different rated units but both Mike and myself thought it prudent to make you all aware of the potential problem so that, should you think your silencer needs checking, you have an idea as to what is what. We have at least one to change and that was supplied as part of a full kit from a local marine supplier! Let us know how you get on folks. Here is the piccy. The fully sealed marine one is at the top with a generic pressed one below. The pressed one leaks like a sieve! Worth bearing in mind when leaving the heating on overnight!
  8. Is it really? How on earth did that happen? I remember back when I first joined the forum and old Pesky said '50 sensible posts and you're in' 50!!! Of course I quickly pointed out that there was little chance of me managing 50 'sensible' posts ever, let alone in a row to achieve full membership! Then again it was fun to think he was telling me to be sensible whilst he was the one conversing with a boat.... I did promise Pesky that I would write my restoration up after Christmas which is coming on nicely but in the meantime I just thought Broadscots Lounge was a good place to celebrate my 1000th!
  9. Timbo! Not sure whether Old Pesky would have awarded you a or a for that one. Either way, I bet he is right now laughing away with the rest of us.
  10. Nice to see some new (to Oulton Broad at least) day boats arriving. Some of last year's fleet are looking so tired even the aforementioned rampaging Yorkshireman couldn't wake one!
  11. You really do need to write those memoirs Peter.
  12. Cheapest option would be to rebuild the engine. Most parts are still available new.
  13. With the boat building skills around here I suspect our model bridge will produce that 'low' water look briefly before plummeting to the bottom!
  14. And there was me thinking there would be davits on the tiger!
  15. Happy to build a scale of 'that' bridge if Grendel lets me know the scale he is working in. And after manoeuvre's have been completed we could charge those that 'bought the wrong boat' a £1 a shot towards forum funds to blow it up!
  16. And from the angle of this piccy we can see Grendel can also walk on water! A talent some boats can't even master...
  17. Maybe, seeings as the boats have come from yards with a new build programme, these are now surplus boats rather than bad boats. They are all pretty run of the mill, maybe running more basic but tried and well tested systems. Well proven designs and, though I do say so myself, not a bad starting point for a fledgling company. B.A.'s planning dept do need to take a long serious look at themselves though. If the answer is always no why do we need a planning dept at all? We already know the answer!! And maybe someone could explain to me the difference between caravans on Hippersons boatyard in Beccles and camping pods on Horizon at Acle? I would be arguing that a precident has been set?
  18. It was but a good effort Polly. Never got to say thanks in chat, the whole lot seemed to crash out at the end!
  19. Fowlers, Broadway's, Newson Boats (the Stratford's of course) the Darby's, Alec Hampton, Jimmy Toplis. This is one memory lane I am going to really enjoy! Shall we start a new thread for it Peter?
  20. A full English and chocolate in the shop? Could be my new favourite place!
  21. My thoughts were the vent. Every time you have a pump out you could be drawing the eggs/larvae into the tank
