  1. Wriggling out of it eh?
  2. Don't knock the winter of 62/63.... if my parents had had a telly I would not be here!
  3. I remember that Peter. You did look a picture! That would be the time you took the "Why did I buy a wooden boat?" photo.
  4. If you need a big R's to stand on the bow I have someone in mind.
  5. I once made a wayfarer sailor a cup of tea during racing at Beccles regatta. The whole fleet were becalmed and he ground to a halt right beside our cockpit. I passed a mug of tea over and by the time he had drunk it he had drifted maybe 6 foot. Then the tide turned and the rescue boat came and towed them all back as they were drifting backwards towards the bridge!
  6. Wanna borrow a yacht Gracie?
  7. Ah, you have a 60 mile head start on me (Buckinghamshire) though when we are up working on JA at Buntingford I think we may be pretty close to you.
  8. 'Watt' you all need to remember is that Griff spends a lot of time away from 'Ohm' which allows plenty of time to 'Amp'ly' regenerate his supply of witisism's.
  9. Being three hours away means, like everyone else, I have to try and pre guess these things.
  10. The whole area seems to now be under flood alert. What are members instincts on this one? Higher or lower than the 2013? Got an elderly mum in Lowestoft in the flood area....
  11. And there are one or two on here that can remember back that far...
  12. Thats how all wooden boat owners start, then, about half way through the 'project' they wish they had run a mile in the other direction!
  13. Ah that explains it! Last week Spirit of Breydon was on Oulton Broad full of hi viz bods catching seagulls. They were then dipping their beaks in luminous paints and getting them to swim in lines. This must be one of the new eco friendly flight paths they are trialing to stop those deaf old residents in Romany Road complaining about light pollution
  14. I know where you went wrong old chap. Your 6x4 trenches, while a tad small would eventually form into something the kids could swim in but a depth of 8ft? Hardly representative of the Broads is it!
  15. That reminds me, criteria for subject matter ref 2018 calendar....
  16. Just to add to Timbo's excellent advice. As well as Tink, mentioned elsewhere on here today, we have a bull dog and bull dogs can't swim, they are too heavy/dense and have no natural buoyancy. So as to not take any chances we contacted Crewsaver direct and they supplied a life jacket based on his size and weight. Bulldog and lifejacket were then presented to a swimming pool and yes he floated exactly as required. He also sulked for a week! Anyway the Crewsaver comes with a handle on the back and a ring for attaching a lead to or hooking the animal out of the water. You need the ring because the jacket will cover your dogs normal collar. Our ring failed. The stitching is weak in this area and when we talked to Crewsaver they told us the ring was for emergency use only even though the instructions with the jacket said differently. We replaced the jacket but, knowing the fault, have since seen a number of similar jackets out and about on the riverbanks with stitching coming undone and mentioned it to the owners. Crewsaver have since changed their instructions I believe. As an aside we had a border collie who loved water. He would fall in deliberately off boats, jetties and paths into rivers, broads, boating lakes, you name it you could not keep him out of it. When on board he always wore his life jacket and certainly tested it to the max! When he got tired, rather than come back to shore, he would just float about knowing full well we couldn't get to him. I wonder how many tides we missed or dinghy's we came close to turning over trying to round him up!
  17. I never got a full 'peskying' but was threatened with woodworm on many occasions
  18. Fortunately us Woodies have no need for such things Or as Pesky would have said....
  19. This is Tink or Dawnglo Tinkerbell to give her her official name. Like others, it was the name her breeder gave her, she came to us aged 4. We shortened it to Tink after getting strange looks shouting "Tinkerbell" in every park in the area. Fortunately she loves being afloat but is bone idle in reality. She used to be a supermodel and even made it to Crufts in her youth. These days she just eats, sleeps and manufactures... well you get the idea. She also loves toffee eclairs!
  20. Perhaps we should set up a rota for My Mynah? I am available and happy to be offended on 21 Jan and again around 18th March if it helps?
  21. Happy New Year to all who survived 2016. There cant be many of us left now. I shall raise a glass to Iain in a few mins miss you old Pesky! Griff, give BA a from me! Here's to 2017, a fabulous year to be afloat amongst friends old and new.
  22. Such a sad sad day. Iain was not only a friend to many of us individually but a true friend of the forum itself. As this year passes and the bells chime in the next I shall raise a glass to Old Pesky. I suspect some of you will join me...
  23. I think it's more a case of the huge increase of awareness of 'celeb's' from the popularity of TV, music charts and other media from the 60's onwards that means those people are now reaching 'that' age.
