  1. And there's me with a nice new shiny Go Pro to test....
  2. Viking you are brilliant!!! Have just ordered a solid wood chess board kit and a similar backgammon board kit. When you said marquetry kit all became clear. Well done
  3. You dont sleep in the bed in winter then?
  4. The most unusual and most useful thing we have aboard is a couple of those citronella burning lanterns. Light them when you sit out in the evening and the mozzies move on to the next boat
  5. Talking of which, guess who is doing the calender again this year? So, start collecting your snaps together and about the beginning of October we will get the ball rolling.
  6. At home we have a coffee table. Yes, don't we all, but a local chap used to build these and donate them to the hospice shop to raise funds etc. They are beautifully made and he built a number of them over the time but he is now, sadly, no longer with us. I guess he was a retired cabinet maker or similar. Anyway, the point of all this is that we get a lot of use and pleasure from playing on this little table and so we want to put something similar into JanetAnne. And here is our problem. There is always something more urgent, more important, more time consuming to ever get to actually make all the parts needed. There are 124 parts plus the crib board ( which we already have) and so I wondered whether there is someone out there with time who would be interested in getting involved?
  7. Knew it! Day off eh? Your boat may be only 12th the size but you seem to have developed the same illness all us wooden boat owners have... the need to fettle! Just seems your condition is not to scale
  8. He sailed all the way, couldnt get the engine started. The "on 10 ltrs of fuel" bit means he was sat on the tank!
  9. Mugs are ordered, programme coming together nicely and show paperwork all under control. Quiz sheet is formulating - always a harder challenge to put together than to answer! Is it really only 9 days to go?
  10. If I had hired and discovered that my yard were charging more for their supplied diesel than one of the other suppliers on the network I would brim the boat before returning it. Its nothing to do with saving the few quid, more the principle. If you aint making enough money out of my hire that you need to jack the fuel prices as well then maybe something needs to be looked at.
  11. Best you get those clogs tied a bit tighter then old chap. You will know when we start, there will be an appeal on the forum for anyone interested in sharpening their woodworking skills to come and play! I am quite sure you need another restoration in your life?
  12. Still got my eagle awaiting restoration. I met Adrian who was the apprentice at Jenner's when the (4) Eagles arrived to be updated into Sea Smugglers. He was going to find out some photo's, I will chase him up. Golden Eagle is still around down west. Not seen her personally but talked to someone who had seen her last year. She is now blue and white and modified but the lines are still clearly there. My Eagle is in a very bad state and probably beyond restoration but we will give it a go and see where it leads us. Anyone got some spare oak? Lol
  13. Your stern on mooring is booked. Please make sure you have a mudweight to stop your bow swinging into the other boats on display. Sadly we are unable to raise the mud to a 1/12th depth for you... On this occasion we have decided to waive your mooring fees. It's not the 1/12th scale receipt that's the issue, the harbour master is unable to hold the 'to scale' pen to write said receipt and therefore can not charge. Water is available should you need to top up during your stay, however, we request that you provide a suitable fitting or adapter to match the flow rate to your requirements to prevent 'flooding' Should we be able to help further please contact us in the usual way. We are available, obviously, for 5 minutes in every hour.
  14. There is no sheet of perspex in door three?
  15. Think of it as a positive, they all knew she's a Broom
  16. At Beccles show in 2015!
  17. Maybe look at the costs versus nights afloat? My yearly running costs normally (yes, I know, not been afloat for the last two seasons ) work out to about £1800 but we manage somewhere around 100 nights afloat so at £18 a night its cheaper than a camp site! B.A. must be out and about for more in the region of 200 nights a year making her a similar cost per night. Jonzo suggests the running costs of a syndicate boat could be around £1200 a year for which you would see 28 nights at a cost of £42 a night. Of course, Janet Anne is a four berth so my £18 a night is £4.50 a person whereas the syndicate boat will sleep 8 meaning £5.00 per person per night.... nothing in it! I think boating can be as cheap or as expensive as you choose to make it. A modest boat on a non serviced mooring can be had for pocket money whereas BA in her nice wetshed on electric etc will cost four or five times as much. Ultimately it has to be what works for you. The simplicity of syndicate where its all taken care of, the private ownership with the luxury of flexibility versus responsibility or hiring with its ease of just turn up, enjoy and walk away.
  18. Yes its a six More heavy than big... Its a '57 Zephyr Zodiac with the 2.5 on an Aquaplane triple. (wearn't allowed the Raymond Mays because that came out after 1959) We stopped at the end of the 2014 season. The car is now in Finland competing in classic rallying.
  19. Snetterton is always a favourite. Here we are in I think 2013. Pre 1959 historic touring cars was our class.
  20. It is quite humbling to see the sheer amount of work that goes into getting wooden boats back afloat and bringing them to Beccles and this thread is no exception. I am amazed at the effort going into this and cant wait to see her next month chap. Well done!
  21. Your priorities look pretty spot on from here! I would defy anyone about to go boating to honestly say that they were concentrating on work this close to the event.
