  1. Maybe they should put cones across like they do to close a road? Is a height marker an hour away a good enough guide? This is the 21st century, two or three digital signs as you cross would surely be more accurate. I have said this before and will continue to say it. If the B. A. take on the responsibility of closing Breydon when it's deemed unsafe we will end up with boaters assuming that it is automatically safe to cross, irrespective of conditions, if there is no ranger to advise otherwise. ... like after 5.30 home time!
  2. Keep them coming peeps. We can have a hundred if we like....
  3. Our winters also used to be much harsher. Frozen waters will nip the hull as the ice expands and could do damage. These days such things rarely happen.... when did you last see a car driving on a frozen Oulton Broad?
  4. Now that's something I would like to attend
  5. Of course you are all welcome to place your orders below so we can get an idea of demand... Last year's were just under a tenner (around £12.00 including postage iirc) I'll include a signed picture of my new cabin roofs if it helps?
  6. I would have thought any lone hanging fenders would need to be in blue? Not bought anything from the clothing range but will want a burgee soon and would certainly want floating keyrings and that 'pump bag's' a good idea. Are the beer mat / coasters available to buy?
  7. With the seasons end fast approaching and, for many of us, our boating fix over for another year, it will soon be time to pop the box brownie' back in the loft and get those plates developed to see if you managed to take any nice piccys. But what to do with those images worthy of note? Share them with the rest of us by submitting them for this year's calendar of course! Yes, it's that time of year when old JA puts the chocolate down and gets her transom into gear to arrange something special to adorn the wall over the bench. We are looking for your images that capture the broads at its best be that landscapes, wildlife, sunsets and, of course, boating. Details of how to enter will be announced in the next few days so have those images ready to submit. The calender will be out for Christmas, will make an excellent stocking filler for the boat owner who has everything and allows you all to help forum funds at the same time. Sounds good to me!
  8. Some of my best tool storage has been a couple of retired photocopier cabinets. They tend to be all steel so nice and strong with decent castors. They will hold plenty of weight, one has my planer thicknesser on it, and a nice wedge under one end stops them trying to escape. They are easy to come by as new copiers come with new cabinets every time!
  9. Those screws in the first piccy suggest someone else has been there before you and not that many years ago?
  10. You sure he wasn't just rabetting on?
  11. Love the Powles 'Foam class' coming into Oulton Broad after Shining Light. Where was the bridge that was opened by hand and followed by the collection net?
  12. Dat's first fing e eva sed wat a unda stud.
  13. Not sure I would risk it. It seems an unlucky mooring for boats sinking or catching fire. I wonder if there is a particularly aggressive platoon of gribble worm lurking under the surface?
  14. All these piccys remind me that our callender competition for the NBN 2018 edition will be coming soon and relying on the support of you all. They make excellent Christmas (yes, I know.. ) presents and help while away those winter blues.
  15. All sound advice above yet the only image currently stuck in my head is the episode of Only Fools and Horses with the blow up dolls that kept inflating automatically...
  16. I think you meant to use this one Tim...
  17. In the water looking stupid is not my strong point however, ON the water looking bloody stupid?... I mastered that years ago
  18. The key to any winter/full cover is ventilation. There is no point in saving your nice curtains and cushions from sunbleaching only to have them go mouldy! Your cover needs to be able to breathe. It also needs to be easy to use. Something fiddly and time consuming will tend to get left off when it's raining or you are pressed for time etc. A decent cover will mean your boats exterior is always clean and ready for use of course.
  19. That Timbo has got it easy, all Royal Tudor needed was a freshen up and a lick of paint. Now this one is more of a challenge....
  20. Got to be aft cockpit just for sheer ease of single handed cruising. Most moorings are now stern on and aft cockpit puts you right where the ropes are etc. My choice would also be the Elysian 27 or one of the derivatives based on that hull. Plenty of beam so superbly stable and enough keel to stop the wind making a laughing stock of you! BMC on a shaft... Spacious... Huge production run and fitted out by many different boatyards meaning an extensive range of layouts. And, for your suggested budget, you would really have the choice of the cream of the fleet.
  21. Safe journeys to you all. If everyone makes it who intends to there will be 28 of us on the quay head! See you there
