  1. Is it a regulation that all petrol powered outboards have a kill switch? I owned a 2nd hand mariner a few years ago that didnt have one so I fitted one for my own piece of mind
  2. Ouch £15 which car park is that? I usually park in Castle Mall and its about £8 if you there that long.
  3. Have you never shopped in the B&M Store!!!
  4. Im not really sure I would be happy paying £8 to moor up for the night where there are no facilities or anything within walking distance. I would be trying to get on North Cove or Worlingham moorings, even the BA mooring by the Beccles bypass bridge which are all free! Its doesnt cost much more to stay at Beccles Yacht Station and atleast you have everything you need onsite or within walking distance. But each to their own!

    Bad Manners

Ive always wanted a water cannon, like the ones foreign riot police use!

    Bad Manners

How long have you been visiting the broads?! This sort of behaviour is quite common, give as good as you get is my motto!!
  7. Bit harsh! is not only a case of the few spoiling it for the many. The thread might be a bit misjudged lets not all get over excited!!
  8. If he has been there minding his own business for 2 years is it not fair to suggest he might well have permission from the landowner and be doing no one any harm. If they spread out onto the bank and turn the place into an extension of mile cross tip its fair game but if people are keeping their surroundings tidy I dont see what business it is of ours!
  9. I mentioned once that a discount would be appreciated if buying 2 tokens at the same time with the intention of pumping out 2 tanks, he nearly went white! In the end we worked out a system to do 2 tanks within the 8 minutes you got for one token. That was a few years ago now so maybe the pump isnt as good anymore
  10. Speaking of road access the access to the Oulton Broad Park isnt very good either. Its an awful little junction right by the rail bridge and awkward to get in and out of.
  11. Personally I might be tempted to phone them up or fire off an email telling them what you think of the standard of work they have charged you for. Maybe the person has a conscience! (Doubt it) Id be kicking up a fuss with them even if all else is lost, might make them think twice in the future. Ive only come across one broadland yard that I felt couldnt be trusted but thankfully there are still many honest folk around but unless you know the tradesman/mechanic or whatever is trustworty I never take anything for granted.
  12. Hopefully whoever does the moorings has measuring tape that works !
  13. The plan appears ok to me. Ive always thought they could make more of their onsite moorings and I hadnt heard good reviews about the way they ran them, hopefully this is the start of improved facilities for the future
  14. Can anyone tell me what they would expect the going rate to be for 1 hours labour for a marine engineer to fit a simple part to a boat. What would you think a broads boatyard would charge? £40-50-60-70-80-90-100 per hour or more?

    Bye Bye

As in Griff - Broad Ambition? I can only see one post from him on this thread and it isnt having a go unless im missing something?!
  16. As far as impellors and belts go for a broads based boat I am comfortable with an annual condition check and aslong as the parts still look serviceable and Im carrying spares I am comfortable with that. I dont see the sense in changing parts that are still perfectly serviceable. Belts on a boat should last a long time, I changed my last set at 6 years and apart from slight wear on the friction surface they were otherwise fine! But, I would always change oil, oil filter and fuel filters annually and gearbox oil every few years also.
  17. One thing I will say about an Isolator to a newbie is dont assume that its been fitted on the positive feed. Im not sure what way is best practice but whilst doing some work on a boat we once had I couldnt understand why a new piece of equipment wouldnt work no matter what I did until I realised the Isolator i had wired from was on the Negative feed. Now rightly or wrongly I assumed an Isolator would be put in the positive feed but my advice is If your boat is an ex hire boat never assume anything!!
  18. Ive got one of these: https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Automotive/d60/Automotive+Electrical+Testers/sd3263/Car+Light+Tester/p84459 and one of these https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-mas830b-digital-multimeter-600v/75337 They make life easier!
  19. I agree the bilge pump is the only thing Ive ever had wired to the constant side of the Isolator but each to their own!
  20. you could put the 2 lives together (aslong as they definately are live!) but if you do that and your 12v socket still stayed on when you turned the main isolator off your not really any the wiser! As JA says you will only want to use one live for an accessory socket the second live is only required for radio to keep the tuning memory set. If it were me I would want a 12v socket to stay live independent of ignition (key) but go off with the isolator but it does depend on your installation and your requirements.
  21. With it being a boat I would rather have it that even the 12v (permenant) memory feed for the radio goes to the switched side of the isolator but thats just my preference as rarely would i turn my isolators off but when I did I wouldnt want the radio to keep drawing power if the boat might not be being used for a while.
  22. FM radio feeds are usually at least 10amp so a phone charger should’nt be an issue
  23. You need to know which of the 2 live wires is the permenant live and which is the switched, but being a boat theres a chance they may both be on permenant. Also if using the old wiring to feed a 12v socket instead of the radio you will need to decide if the feed is up to the job of powering whatever you intend to plug in to it. If its low power items like chargers I imagine it will be ok but heavy duty spotlights or vhf radios etc could require a more heavy duty supply.

    The Sandford Myth

Do you mean Marina Quays? Could it be that successive tides push the salt further inland and because of the silt (which is very obvious in places on the Lower Bure) that the Bure never actually drains to its full potential and hasnt done for many years now, I couldn’t believe how much water there wasn’t last time I navigated the lower Bure at low tide.
