  1. Thanks for the update, much appreciated. Its sad that another bit of the broads is disappearing. Bit by bit it is eroding ( see what I done there 😜). Especially at a time when staycations are on the up. A bit investment could see the broads booming again. I know that is not appealing to some on here, but things just don’t stand still. They either prosper or die. There is plenty space on the rivers, it’s just the getting your head down that’s the problem!
  2. Has anyone had a peek at these moorings this week? Are there “ no mooring” signs in place?
  3. As well as my utter amazement that a plane can fly over a populated area for a considerable time without being challenged, is, If planes are out of.touch with air traffic control, and they change height\ course to avoid say bad weather, who knows what height, where they are in the sky? Surely this adds to a Collison opportunity?
  4. A fantastic achievement, and has served her country admirably. She will go down in history as a great Queen.
  5. I only caught about 5 mins of this tonight ( was watching Scotland do the honourable thing and hand Ukraine the game 🤪) but the little I did see seemed to be in no doubt , the pilot intentionally caused the disaster. I will catch it all tomorrow. Did anyone watch it? I still don’t understand how a rogue plane can fly over populated land , without being “ a point of concern”.
  6. Thanks for the replies, and a lucky find on my behalf . I am very intrigued by it , but there is so much of the industry and it’s workings I have no idea about. I hope you do catch up on it, would love to hear your take on all . 👍
  7. I don’t know how much you know about this disaster? But the plane changed course 180^ and apparently stayed on this course for hours ( over land I believe) Surely the military of the country would want to investigate what was going here? Or am I just being naïve?
  8. Been watching a programme about the lost flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in 2014. It has always fascinated me , and is on Channel 5 , so watch it on catch up if interested. So many unanswered questions on it , but what I thought someone on here may be able to inform me is, when the plane changed course, nobody could contact them , and at first nobody seemed to be too concerned about this !! I find it surprising that pilots are not in contact with air traffic control at all times. Surely in this age of satellite phones constant contact isn’t a problem? Hopefully some others are watching it , because there are so many questions!
  9. Make no mistake, when I’m on the broads, I want nothing more than a quiet life. Pass the time of day with folks with a brief wee chat is all good. But on the odd occasion when I meet an angry or rude person , I just break into my strong Scottish accent and pretend I don’t really understand what they are saying. Getting them to repeat themselves umpteen times 😃. Then totally change the subject and try and chat to them in a friendly manner, pretending I’m not picking up on their beef. 🤪. They usually then leave, muttering some none sense. It’s like a time I moored stern on at Ranworth. A gin palace owner offered to help me with my ropes and when I thanked him , and the crew accepted his assistance, ( I was no where near hitting his boat, I’ve stern moored hundred of times) and with the grumpiest attitude possible , he ordered me to drop my mudweight. So I went from going to drop it, to not bothering. ( I was only staying a couple of hours) Its always nice and productive to be nice 🥰
  10. Did these moorings not have a “ character” who would at times come out and shout at those who moored there? I may have my ropes crossed here 😃. Its really sad, it was a fantastic place to spend a summers evening. I may even go and spend a night on the mudweight VERY close by, when I am down in a few weeks 🤪. Is that it , officially closed in a few days time? No way back ?
  11. My house is passed by school kids during the day. Very rarely do I arrive home and not have to pick up discarded litter, which I then put in my bin . Bad enough, but in these covid times , even worse. But what do you do? Leaving it isn't really an option, but I'm aware I am doing exactly what the plebs who drop it think " some other mugs problem" Some cultures just don't have the problem, it must all be in education, and more importantly, decent parenting.
  12. I am as far from perfect as could be . But littering , as my Wee Granny did say , " rips my knitting ". It's sheer ignorance. Why people would want to mess the place they live in , is one of the big bewilderment in my small brain. Apart from the very unfortunate, we can all see the beauty of our planet. We can all see the impact poor housekeeping causes , both cosmetically and environmentally. Anyone found breaking these rules should be forced to carry out community service , litter picking for many a day. Or go and watch my football team 😂😂😂
  13. Where does one find such rules?
  14. What exactly could the EU have done to prevent Russia from invading another country 🤔?
  15. I don't think you have reverse polarity. You probably have induced voltage on the N conductor which is quite common. Anything under 50volts is deemed safe, though you wouldn't want that much induced voltage. If I have misread this, microwave ovens can cause reverse polarity in installations, but I've no idea how or why 😁
  16. It has to be one of the most entertaining spots on the broads. 😀😀. I have seen a few incidents of two boats going for it at the same time. I’ve sat at the boatyard side waiting to get through, with 4 or 5 boats just coming through while I was put to the test in breezy conditions, trying to stay still. A fair few boats were behind me and we were running out of space. Eventually I had to go for it, and an irate pilot was flapping his arms around at me. I smiled and waved, looked behind me and another 2 had followed me through. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  17. Hiya, firstly I would suggest the North side of the broads for a first time hirer. Maybe wait until late Sept so not as busy, but the tides and hence the lesser flow is less of an issue. Also, a few extra boats about may be an advantage. Most people are more than happy to help and advise. If you plan for a week ( 2 weeks maybe the next time) then you can do lots of cruising without having to worry too much about bridges. Check when hiring it you can get under Wroxham bridge and then you won't have any problems. ( Only canoes can get under potter heigham 😂😂😂)
  18. Oh aye, I think of him often. He was a good friend to me . The fact this place is called Broadscot on my suggestion is of great satisfaction to me. Sweet dreams mate 💚💚
  19. I would think they will have had the same issues as everyone else , with covid cases and people having to self isolate. All it takes is one person to catch the virus and all the folk who have been in close contact with them are off for at least the next day until they get the all clear at best. Easily lose half their workforce in a drop of the hat ( or ping of the phone😌)
  20. I have sympathy for HW , and hats off to the lads for accepting the flaws in the manner they have. Hire boats won’t half take a pounding throughout the season , this year more than most I would think, and probably staff have been limited in numbers this year. There is worse places to be stuck than at the side of a river with a pub nearby. 🤪
  21. I will, and have refrained from discussing it any further. I appreciate it must be a “ sare fecht “ as they say in these parts, trying to keep things in line . I asked a question, because I’m genuinely interested in what other people think , and how they come to their way of thinking . I have an open mind on it, and I may learn things I did not know. How else do we learn, and expand our knowledge?. The people on here, who appear to have a different opinion on this matter, I absolutely respect, and no doubt agree with them on many other matters. I absolutely did not want to fall out with anyone, and don’t think for a minute i would have. I totally respect the stance on it, and hope I didn’t stray close to the line. See you all on the broads again soon I hope. 😎 Neil
  22. Good luck. What a superb attitude 👏
  23. I did say the people I have encountered. Where did the EU not act in our interest , to our detriment? Genuinely interested , not trying to stir up a debate. I honestly can’t think of anything they done which had a huge negative effect on my quality of life.
