    My Day

Forgot about Melanka yesterday, I doffed my hat as she went past. This morning's routine has been the same as yesterday except the river buoys have been loaded up, just waiting having a coffee before we raise the flags and fire the canon at 08:00. We get complaints from the village, if we are not on time, we get looks of surprise and some times terror if there is a tourist going past.... Sadly we use blanks....

  8. Throw the stick Dad, throw the Stick , I know that one , yes we have a Border Collie..
  9. In the case of my failed update to Windows 10 Creators Edition, Rebooting my machine didn't work , it just came up each time saying preparing windows, and then put you into a safe mode with no access to the windows account, Outlook lost all connection to the outside world although IE / the edge allowed internet access.
  10. We've only a couple of moths ago turned off a machine at work with DOS 6.2 on it. no one had the budget required to re-write the software that was running on it so it stay DOS until the whole system became obsolete. Many things like hospital scanners all round the world are running on XP with no chance of changing...
  11. I had to roll back to the previous version of win 10, as it lost many items off my desk top, and outlook didn't work. I guess had they not stopped updating numbers this would have been windows 11, and well have to wait for Win12 for them to get it right as usual.
  12. B*****y soft Southerners
  13. That is a type of condition anyone sailing regularly on the rivers would be familiar with, racing or not. Especially when you don't have an engine, it's a problem those who use engines all the time or fishermen on the bank don't always appreciate..
  14. Another minor point is you are not allowed to fish from a motorboat (or sailing boat that is underway. (Broads regulation 29.1) Enjoy your fishing

    Tv Aerial

That is perfectly good aerial, what you need is height to get over trees and buildings between you and Tacolneston. The longer the pole you can use the better..
  16. When a motorboat overtakes a sailing boat, its' bow wave first pushes the sailing boat away, then the other side of the bow wave the sailing boat gets sucked in closer. Therefore a big cruiser can shake a small sailing boat all over the place. If the conditions are really only just sailable then a motor cruiser on the other bank, will shake a small boat about. The more the speed and the more the bow wave the worse it can be. Over the years we do get used to being shaken about and countering the bow wave. Although we do prefer more space, it is not uncommon to have dayboats (especially) and motor cruisers going past us at 10 inches and occasionally less. The biggest problem is the hireboaters who have not been acclimatised to the width of their boat and go for a gap that isn't there. Or the Dayboaters hammering their way past to the next pub.. The most common question when I'm on rescue boat duty from the tourists is "how far to the next pub.".
  17. Oh I don't know I've many many years ago, capsized right in front of Albion, I had to hold the laser mast / sail down while they sailed over the top avoiding me... Providing that is over the fenders then that is often the case... Though beware the suction of the motorboats hull, something you don't often get when a sailing boat is overtaking a motorboat.
  18. A nice of motoring there, strange to see Torty so far back in the fleet (white boat 21) he and Liz normally do better that that! Not very crowded though.
  19. if you're sailing on the broads 10 inches, is well clear... It's too crowded for anything else..
  20. Which is where I mentioned (maybe on this thread) often a motor boat over reacts when seeing a sailing boat approach, expecting it to turn at 10ft away when the sailing boat is likely to turn 10 inches away...
  21. You can't pass in front of a motorboat while the overtaking manoeuvre is taking place you would have to go through the motorboat. Once the sailing boat has overtaken and can physically pass in front of the overtaken boat, bylaw 15 no longer is in force..
  22. I must admit I have 2 foot diameter Fenders on my Motorboat as it is moored on the river in Horning.. They have been useful as I have seen motorboats bouncing their way down the riverbank with out the assistance of Sailing craft...
  23. I will when I next see the current 3RR organiser speak to him and get him to include in his pre race briefing the responsibilities of the competitors to other boats. But like those who cheat their way round the course it's very difficult to enforce..
