  1. There were several vessels working just off the coast of Lowestoft this weekend. We thought they might well be related to this as we don't usually see any vessels this close to shore.
  2. I'll have to take a look at that. Next year we would really like to either hire on the south or make sure we book a week when the tide times work with the daylight hours for crossing Breydon. We're out in October but the tide times are all wrong given the shorter days.
  3. Wow! Thank you and your good lady for all the photos. That gives us a really good idea of what it's like.
  4. Ah ... Looking at which boat to book and when. Always the first thing to do when one arrives home.
  5. Another good read. And what an interesting idea. :)
  6. Loved catching up with your tale. Thank you so much for all the photos ... I do miss the southern Broads, it's been too long. Maybe next year ... :)
  7. I think you will find that Norfolk Broads Direct introduced a policy a while back to keep prices the same at some holiday times. I checked their prices on one of their cruisers and October half term and Easter dates next year looked the same as the weeks around them if I read it right.
  8. That's grand and exactly what I needed to know.
  9. A very interesting read. I had thought that Alderby Hall used to be a BA mooring but noticed it was private when we had a day boat out down there in July. We've looked at the Captains a number of times when considering whether we can find something we would like to hire on the south. But I'm not quite sure about the bed. Is it one that you can walk around under the bow?
  10. Did anyone else catch this programme? It's a new series which started on Friday evening. I've just watched the first one which was a Baltic cruise to Copenhagen, Tallinn, St Petersburg and Helsinki. Great fun, very entertaining. I've never been on a cruise but this one looked very good. Saw Jane McDonald many years ago at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend when she was at the height of her fame from the cruise ship documentary programme where she first appeared on tv. She's definitely still got a very lively and bubbly personality.
  11. A good read ... I will be interested to hear how your trip progresses. Thank you for sharing it with us. :)
  12. Reported this afternoon by Hemsby Lifeboat on Facebook. Guess this might be it. HEMSBY Broads LIFEBOAT - callout Saturday 2nd September 2017 Paged by Humber Coastguard at 09:15hrs to assist the Ambulance service in off-loading a casualty from a cruiser at Salhouse Broad and onto a waiting Ambulance where the casualty was later taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston. Two crewmen stayed onboard the cruiser and helmed it back to the Richardson Boatyard at Stalham. Broads Lifeboat was stood down and returned to station. Also in attendance: Winterton, Happisburgh & Mundesley Coastguard teams and the East Of England Ambulance Service Broads Lifeboat returned to station, all assets were back on service at 12:15hrs. Two additional crewmen were picked up from Stalham and returned to station at 14.15hrs
  13. Congratulations Snowy, to you and your other half. Lovely photos. It has indeed been a glorious week apart from Wednesday. Interested to know how you liked Olympic Light. It's a boat I've looked at many times on the HW website.

Kingfishers Time that makes sense to me. Thank you for your explanation.

Not a daft question at all. I follow your logic but I have no idea about the answer or the science behind it.
  16. A forward steer cruiser is probably going to give you the best chance of getting under Wroxham Bridge, says the person who hasn't managed to get under there yet!! Centre cockpit cruisers are nice to take out but you can be up and down steps going through the boat. If you need to be careful about mobility I would keep to the forward steer cruisers. I've only hired smaller ones set up for two people so wouldn't have the storage you are looking for. Perhaps a call to some of the boatyards to see what they've got and what they recommend might help.
  17. Lovely photo. Have a good day wherever it takes you.
  18. I only just found this!! Very apt though as we purchased some cards in the RNLI shop in Lowestoft today. Had a nice little chat with the ladies in there while it was drizzling outside. :)
  19. Yesterday was hot and sunny in Lowestoft and on the Broads. Today by contrast is chilly and rainy although we have still been for a walk by the harbour area. And yes, it does beat being in the office just the same.
  20. Well said Grendel. Please also don't forget about the number of times that people write holiday tales or upload videos stating how close their airdraft is to the stated bridge height but they go for it anyway while disputing the accuracy of the measurements both on the boat and on the gauge.
  21. Hmm ... no. And I certainly couldn't vouch for the food, must have changed hands in that time. Here's one possibility though. I asked hubby and what we can both remember is that we were looking across the estuary to the hotel where we were staying which you can do from this one. http://theseagate.co.uk Appledore and Instow are just north of Bideford. We stayed at a hotel in Instow called The Commodore which is still there and still charging quite high prices. They have a restaurant as well. The beach and the estuary views are beautiful. We have visited Instow again since then and I love that whole area around Bideford. http://www.commodore-instow.co.uk
  22. Very interesting to see all these old photos.
  23. Went to a lovely pub once in Appledore, John. No-one else in the restaurant that evening so it was like our own private dining experience ... can't remember the name of the place ... but then it was 35 years ago on our honeymoon.
  24. Welcome to the forum Cliff. Still dreaming of moving up to Norfolk but for now we have a caravan in Lowestoft which is allowing me to at least get close to the Broads more often than I can get on them!!
