  1. If it’s the one I’m thinking of it’s similar to a Spartan but with a distinct two piece transom with a slight point/ aft stem line but not a full blown reverse bow. There was a cruiser with the same stern design built for the Norwich speedway owner called Speedway Star. Was outside at Martham a few years back but not sure what’s happened, the owner sadly passed away and I’d heard his daughter had taken it on so hopefully not gone to the big boatyard in the sky.
  2. Relax facial muscles and let bottom jaw drop, place hands on top of head, one either side, maintain eye contact and rotate torso as vessel passes, slowly close eyes when vessel is at nearest point...
  3. Whilst staring at the helm directly in the eye with either emotionless face, or slightly open eyed and gaping mouth, hold your arm forwards level, palm of hand flat facing downwards, relax the fingers down together about 45 degrees then return up to the horizontal, repeat in slow succession and if desired effect then stop, rotate hand through 90 degrees, clench fingers in and put thumb up. Don’t let your whole hand flop down from the wrist though, that can be mistaken for come nearer.
  4. Ahoy there Eyegreg, great to have you on board, do share any stories of those voyages from your childhood, it’s really interesting to hear tales of bygone holidays. The yard, the boat, the moorings, anything, it’s wonderful to hear history!
  5. Beau...? Je ne sais quoi. Cordon bleu...gh. Cold and uninviting.... I liked how it looked in years gone by. If the plan is to prove not financially viable then why throw any more money at it? Appreciate some pubs have converted to desirable homes in the past but pubs in such a prominent water side location wouldn’t float my boat. Wonder what the future really holds for such a venue if not a pub, restaurant, camp, caravan or glamping site?
  6. Man made or not it seems we’ve not advanced much since medieval, WW1 or recent SARS times in terms of how to deal with a virus, locally at least. The scientists are struggling to convince me that they can solve the problem, surely out of the thousands out there one of them could, the lack of investment in research can’t be blamed I don’t think, the problem is world wide after all and there’s a big bonus waiting for the one who comes up with the solution!
  7. Have seen very few school kids in shops in the past 5 months fortunately, mine haven’t been. The precautions schools are taking based on my children’s school is extensive; school will be miserable for them compared to what they knew before. I agree with JBLs sentiment and believe this is a man made virus and blame it for the events of the past 5 months. As the nights draw in very sad times and a long winter ahead.
  8. Once my two go back to School I shan’t be seeing my parents/ in-laws at all for their protection. Part of a bigger bubble then, just hope the rest of the parents do the s@me... not always practical... and not holding my breath though! Except in the supermarket under my mask.
  9. Yaawwnnn... “quick, bag puss is going to sleep, mice on the mouse organ professor yaffell back to the woody book end....” purrfect post RP!
  10. Haven Bridge is the responsibility of Norfolk County Council. Peel Ports operate and maintain it but can only be held to account under the terms of their agreement, looks as though NCC need to invest some cash by the latest article. I used the term authority in lower case as a general reference not specifically I.e. whichever authority is responsible needs to do what is necessary, even if the bill falls to the taxpayer which I expect it will largely. Agreed the small berth outside the Town Hall May be more appropriate Smoggy, refrence to the outer harbour was in jest, it may be fully utilised by shipping now, must be ten years since the cranes left.
  11. Moor up in Yarmouth and wait for the bridge to open, plenty of room in the outer harbour. It’s the authority’s problem and they need to fix it! The least they can do is give them a berth foc until they do, slacking and not keeping their house in order is tantamount to denying the navigational right and if they get away with it for too long then there is a risk complacency might set in and one day the bridge is opened rarely or altogether shut permanently. I presume a third crossing is not too far off now, trust that will be reliable!
  12. Nice hull for sure as JM states (?Foster/Classic 27?), Ive been watching with interest a telly prog called vintage voltage where classic cars are being electrified (don't laugh but my convert would be a 2cv, if the motor doesn't make the kerbside weight a tad high just a shame the donor cars can't be had for £250 from the EDP under £500 section like when I passed my driving test back in the late 80s!). This could become (more of) a maritime trend too in time, Ive seen a couple of old wooden day launches converted (Winsome and a Jack Powles one around the Thurne, any how back on topic this boat could be a blank canvass for such a conversion with strip back, remove & sell engine on and then see what layout works best, forward drive, aft cockpit, centre cockpit & aft cabin. From what I recall the Ernest Collins topped ones transit potter bridge reasonably, with a bespoke (and lightweight!) slight air draft chopped top and batteries strategically positioned to weigh it down where you want it the broads your oyster!!
  13. MM try phoning the local housing association, they have the old council garages, would be Victory Housing in north Norfolk, if over the drawbridge I.e, that bridge then maybe try Great Yarmouth council? Might be a waiting list for either but many a classic car has been saved consequent of affordability to rent the under cover storage. And it’s good luck!
  14. Why not fit a tow bar to your cruiser, swan neck type, and have an appreciating classic in tow, handy for a bike, outboard and spare gas bottle too. If you were going to trailer anyway kill two birds with one extra boat and have a caravan by the sea when you feel like it. Alternatively Bluebird North Walsham may have a shipping container available, they come in several sizes, recommend vacuum bagging clothing and silica sachets!
  15. My well ran dry this week, about the same time as last year, not surprising. Am surprised that there is no hosepipe ban in Norfolk yet though. Don’t forget to water the birds please!
  16. Stumpy, the Caraboats are gaining a bit of a cult following now (and not just at 45mph on an A road out of Norfolk on a bank holiday!), especially if you have a Dutton Sierra to tow it behind. Alternatively buy an old caravan off gumtree and mount it on a pontoon redneck style, anything we can do yanks can do better; maritimite love em or hate em!
  17. Most definitely. Except I am questioning the right of a marshalll, whatever one of those is in terms of byelaws applicable to the Broads.
  18. Mainly... so why quote such a specific example as Hickling and the term ‘marshall’.. and if you’re not bothered about legal standpoint anyway why mention byelaws. I think we’re done.
  19. Night all. The silence of a response to my question is deafening. Broad brush statements not backed up by quote or specific reference to legislation... where does the Hickling example come from as the forum poster states “are covered” by byelaws in the para. above?!?
  20. If Motorboaters example is based on fact then agreed no more confusion welcomed, but equally I think some different legislation may be needed to clear up the confusion if third parties such as Marshall’s whoever they are can become involved in a traffic rules scenario between two other vessels and tell them what to do... are the marshalls harbour pilots?
  21. Well, looking at the Navigation section, 6 what in little peoples terms I would call Definitions, Marshall isn’t there. Pity I am really interested to understand the ramifications of this statement if it is not purely hypothetical and an example of how the byelaws could be written.... but are not? Genuine question.
  22. Can you link to the byelaw for the first half of your second para. please, I’m not aware of Marshalls there but perhaps I’ve always ignored them? On a sad but related to this thread note I see the pits at Bawsey have claimed another casualty today.
  23. Bridge broad is where I learnt to paddle board. Didn’t fall in but can vouch for the others who did, should be plenty warm enough, just avoid anyone fishing!
  24. I recommend the military grade inflatable canoes, friend of mine bought one secondhand and it’s a corker!
