This is a very good point. Most of us here are lucky enough to have made the crossing many times and the posts (sometimes bouys) are a handy reminder that we know to keep our eyes on while traveling a familiar route. But if it's your first time then you may well fall into one of 2 groups.... those that approach everything with a "how hard can it be" attitude and those who have read it's difficult and are a bit nervous. Surely as an area highly promoted for tourism BA should endeavour to make it as clear as day where you are supposed to be, even to the point of being a bit irritating for those more experienced. Every crew that runs aground and every sensationalist news report loses the area visitors or at the very least stops some holidaymakers from exploring and getting the whole Broads experience. I know at least one boat owner who has never crossed due to an unfounded fear based on reports like this. So BA, sort the posts out, put up more info signs and arrows.. do the emergency services, the boatyards and the local economy a favour!
  4. Looks good, do they have moorings, do you know?

I imagine, especially for inexperienced boaters, that running aground in what is a large expanse of water leaves you wondering what to do. A call for help and advice is presumably taken out of your hands at that point and the response is no longer under your control. Does the boat document folder include instructions on what to do if aground does anyone know?

I wonder whether or not the helm in these cases are gently debriefed in order to investigate what went wrong. Twice recently on other parts of the Broads I have had dayboats veer across the river towards a head-on collision as the helm talks to their crew over their shoulder. It takes a surprising number of blasts on the horn before they realise it applies to them. Could distraction be a factor in these running aground incidents? Maybe some sort of "off lane" device similar to those on cars could be fitted to hire boats? Triggered by location so as not to ruin the experience by buzzing on other parts of the system
  11. We've noticed quite a few pubs closed on mondays. With many pubs short of staff it seems this is the only way they can get a break. Norada, Potter. Dog Inn, Ludham. Lion, Somerton and as noted the Nelson, Reedham. Things may change as staff are found so it's worth checking direct with them... don't want to lose them Monday business if they do return to opening!

  18. On removing a solar panel I found that sometime in the past our boat suffered an electrical fault. The junction box on the panel had melted completely and was burnt causing some burn damage to the grp. This is inside and right on top and in the middle of the area between the helm and windscreen. I can cover it but if possible I would like to make it look better cosmetically. I have tried a mild cut/polish product with only a small improvement as you can see from the before and after photos. Has anyone dealt with something like this successfully?
