I Have Just Been Clobbered By One Of Those B * * * * * Hire Boats!

I would never dream of inferring any such thing! I have attempted to express my sympathy with you for the situation you are in and I sincerely hope it is resolved as soon as possible. -

Absolutely! Insurers are unpopular, but I never knew an insurance company decline a legitimate claim -

That would be the same as a car accident... Exchange names, addresses and insurance details. Gather evidence and witnesses if possible. If they do not stop inform the BA and even if they do stop in particular if there is injury. I don't know what powers or if the BA can disclose a Third Party's details under data protection laws. Or whether failing to stop is an offence under navigation law. If you have the TP details your insurers will process the claim with them. In the event that you can't trace or don't know the Third Party you will probably claim from your own insurers for your own damage (like comprehensive car insurance) unless your policy does not cover your own damage (if in doubt check with your insurer) Finally you could consider private legal action, I can't advise on this but I imagine it is fraught with possible pitfalls and, of course impossible where the Third Party isn't known. All of the above is subject to professional verification as it may have changed since I worked in insurance claims many years ago in a former life. -

Sorry to hear that your wife was hurt, I hope she has fully recovered, it must have been a frightening experience for her. -

That's reassuring to know Vaughan, thank you π Mind you it's always going to be a bit traumatic to see one's pride and joy damaged but that's something we can't do anything about! -
I think that partly what separates the careful and the careless helms is an appreciation of the boat in it's own right. From the moment I stepped aboard my first hire in the early 80s I knew that if I was lucky and worked towards it then one day I would own one of these beautiful things. For many years of course I was just as happy to hire and to be entrusted with someone else's craft (and still would be if I hadn't been lucky) A boat is never just a "thing" it is a Norfolk Lady.

Sorry to hear about the inconsiderate third parties Malc.. its hard to fathom how they felt that mooring across your bow was appropriate! Fortunately the other parts of your day and the photos hopefully compensated.

Really enjoying your holiday write up and photos Malcolm, a memorable holiday afloat for sure π

Emails that you keep should remain on the providers server, that's how you can access them from multiple devices. For the laptop/pad, how about something like the Microsoft Surface Pro (other makes are available) It's a kind of hybrid laptop/pad, you attach/detach the keyboard as required. It works for me but like any compromise it is a trade off to some extent, neither fish nor fowl. Newer models may have improvements over the one I have. For example the keyboard is not full size and because it's detachable it can fall off. I like the look of models where the keyboard just folds away when you require tablet mode

It's odd, they aren't listed in their online shop, this is where we've bought them before!

It really is the most useful app... I have used it to identify parts on DIY jobs, things on the boat that I had no idea what they did. replacement bulbs on Gill's car... and of course plants! π

My horticultural knowledge ends at "I think that may be a rose" My honesty however knows no bounds, as in "It wasn't me" a phrase that been useful to me from the age of 6 to 66 π

My similar problem was an airlock. I think it was Cheesey that suggested to me buying one of those point and read thermometers and by taking readings along the whole system I found the air lock. Mine was at a joint in the hose so I replaced the connector with one that has an air bleed screw.

You're most welcome. My smartphone and Google Lens deserve the credit to be honest π

I can confirm this is true π

I suspect it would mean a lot of people just wouldn't hire day boats under those terms Andrew, it could lose a lot of business!

Beautiful! π

Brilliant photos, seeing swans in flight (and their take off and landing antics) is one of my favourite Broads sights π

It's particularly annoying when kids are involved, not only are they too young to appreciate the danger they are learning that it's OK. Surely no one who takes a minute to stop and think would think that is how to handle a boat or enjoy a boat holiday come to that!
