  1. Are you sure you read the instructions properly before assembling your dog? It appears some bits are the wrong way up.
  2. It is mostly plantation anyway so clearing is inevitable, been in there many times with the dog and always fun on the way back to st.olaves moorings after a night in the decoy tavern, much safer than the road route and once you get your night vision it's easy without a torch but cover your eyes as you pass the roundhouse as the pir light gets you. There's quite a few old military training bunkers in there in various states of collapse and the railway used to run right through it as evident by a few bridges and ditches. Queens head does a cracking carvery on a sunday for a good price.
  3. So Floydraser and the leicestershireians are planning to steal the broads after all then! Oh that's right sea level change, silly me.
  4. I've seen benacre broad on my chartplotter many times heading down the coast to southwold but never realised it was that close to the sea, I guess it's a salt water broad but is it a real broad? Was it dug out or just a naturally low area that has been inundated by the sea? There are some good pubs in southwold you know.
  5. Norfolk police successfully raided the chuckle brothers secret lair this weekend and discovered their evil cloning machine, when interviewed under caution the lesser known Griff chuckle said "you'll not stop us taking over the world " quickly followed by "to you, to me, to you" and finished with an evil cackling sound before being led off in handcuffs and manacles.
  6. Covehithe and Beanacre broad are not that close to the main broads as they are halfway between lowestoft and southwold.
  7. Sounds like you are going to have to come up with a routine if leaving him alone in the house so he knows the signs and knows you will be back, for us it's always been a fuss and a treat when going out, when we first got Tina I got one of the cheapy wifi cameras with pan/tilt/zoom so I could see what she was up to on my phone from work, and once had to nip home to stop her eating my glasses.
  8. This what happens when the holding tank explodes.....
  9. I'm sure there's a few on here that can share the memories of those times.
  10. Now say it like you mean it.
  11. I've seen quite a few magnet fishing on the broads, can't see any reason it would be banned as it takes junk out of the rivers as long as people don't just chuck it back afterwards.
  12. I always carry a spare for each engine, usually the last one taken out if they inspect as being ok, I don't change anually but every 2-3 years if no problems but as said a blockage can destroy one within minutes, if I've put anti-freeze through the system I fill the strainers first before starting and have some floating plastic balls in there so I can see water movement through the lids when they fire up, I also have thermocouples against the raw water pumps with a display at the helm as the get hot pretty quickly in case of intake blockage.
  13. If anyone does a dredging session can I have my tools back please, there must be quite a few screwdrivers and the odd spanner of mine down there.
  14. I want to know about the crew following them around for the crew breakdowns, you can't have that many old geezers in boats and not have a few mishaps..... "Hello Herbert Woods, our boat is making strange creaking and groaning noises!" " No Mr. Griffin, that's the crew you are hearing..."
  15. You've not done the middle levels in the fens yet then, lots of straight ditches and steep banks and if you are really lucky you may see a tree (in the distance).
  16. Mine is a double hook with no pointy bit, still wouldn't put it against a boat though.
  17. In that order? Are you sure it was one or two?
  18. Not yet but they may try now, I don't guarantee success. The mop suggestion is more about idiots that think a boathook is a fending device.
  19. A grabbing tool with a mop head? I thought BoJo had resigned.
  20. I'm sure it would be easy enough for yards to leave a form of defects found on board that hirers could write on if they find any issues that they can't be arsed calling the yard about, that way when the boat is handed back the yard will have a list of niggles, most will be minor and ignored but bigger issues can be looked at before they go back out, the minor ones can be logged for winter maintenance.
  21. Or just use a mop. Not on MM's boat though as that would cause damage too....
  22. Boathooks are very useful gadgets and certainly have their place but the name "boatHOOK" kinda gives the game away and probably why they were never called "boatspears".
  23. No qualification teaches common sense unfortunately. Anyone aiming a boathook at my boat will get a swift gobfull!
