  1. We are planning to catch that same tide to hit GY midway through slack. We need 9 feet under the bridges at GY - rather a high sided hire this year, as we want to see over the reeds for a change. We'll be on https://broadshols.co.uk/boats/skyway - give us a wave. Sorry for the slight topic hijack.
  2. We have also finally succumbed, after 2 years of being sensible. Similar experience to Meantime above, but with no loss of smell or taste. We are both triple jabbed and I've now been invited for a fourth, so do feel better off than when all this started. However, it was still unpleasant and I do have a lingering dry throat and a shortage of energy, although I now test clear. We do have to live with this thing now, but I recommend you avoid if possible! Best wishes for a solid recovery to all those affected.
  3. Symptoms seem to match our current experience. We managed to avoid it from the beginning until this week. An anomaly is that we are instructed by the NHS app to self isolate for 11 days (9th April) - if I had only tested positive on April 1, the advice will be to avoid contact with people for 5 days (5th April). I guess we'll just use our common sense again.
  4. I'm taking a much deeper interest in passage planning than usual in a bid to keep consumption down. While this is probably sensible, we'll see what really happens when we get hands on to our boat at the end of May! Meanwhile, is there any chance of members living closer to the Broads, as well as current hirers, helping to update this page: https://forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/handy-information/fuel-prices/
  5. Apologies - I've missed 2 in a row now and will possibly miss next week also as I'm up for a cataract op. Should appear again in fairly early April - I'll be upset if I miss Biker winning.
  6. I'm booked for a cataract op in 12 days time, so I'm being a bit wide-eyed and masked at the moment! Hopefully, I'll be even more wide-eyed after the op - and mostly maskless.
  7. Welcome, and best of luck with your search.
  8. Thank you for this Robin, Vaughan, and other contributors. Very interesting and impressive heavy engineering. I was somewhere in Africa at the time, but news of the tragedy went around the world - the recovery less so. Since the disaster, I've been on large ferries perhaps four times, but have never felt comfortable. Similarly, I've resisted all attempts to get me on to one of those ridiculously large cruise ships that appear to defy stability logic.
  9. I did not know that, thank you. However, I probably can't afford to hire a new boat, so it's a bit moot!
  10. Last year, Roy's were happy to deliver, and the yard were also fine with it. We bottled it in the end for reasons I can't remember - the right kind of hooch or something might have been a factor.
  11. I've never moored at The Ferry but this year I'm hiring from Clive at Horning Pleasurecraft so may be exploring the T's and C's for pedestrians. Mind you, it's about 150 metres direct, but nearly a kilometre round all the water that's been left lying about ....
  12. Rather less excitingly, I got 'Women On A Mission' or 'World Organisation of Arbitration and Mediation' which the ones on a mission might need, depending on the mission. See you tonight I hope.
  13. Last time out, we took on water at Gaye's Staithe while we waited for the roving mechanic to come and fix our winch. They do ask for a financial contribution, and perhaps they shut it down at this time of year?
  14. First class quiz tonight, with a good turnout and chat. Well done to to Fred/ Mike and especially to quizmaster Grendel.
  15. I see breaking waves at Potter today! (Norfolk Broads Webcam - Herbert Woods) Welcome to the north side
  16. Hardly relevant, but Lands End running at about 50 mph average, with gusts up to 82 mph.
  17. Thanks Bluebell. I'm currently looking at another member's pair, if you'll pardon the expression. Could you PM the details to me in the meantime? Thanks, Mike
  18. I'm looking at getting a couple of moderately decent (but cheap!) PMR446 radios so, if you happen to be de-cluttering, give me a shout. Not sure exactly what specs I'm looking for, but they should be programmable (maybe they all are, my knowledge is slight, lol). Mike
  19. Where will you be, Polly? We will be on the water from Friday 20th, but our current plan (meeting family down south) may not suit.
  20. Funny clocks in your house .... :-)
  21. My last 3 refunds were all by bank transfer or card credit, not cash (Richo, Broom, Barnes). Regarding all inclusive rates, I don't believe I would benefit in any way, but the yards would. That's just me, but I was trained as an accountant ......
